We need Butcher for structure but his last 2 weeks have been below par. We may have to bring Renouf in.

That's a bit harsh.
He needs a injury free pre season.

We have been giving him too many chances i just dont want him to be a guy who leaves us and turns into a gun somewhere else , which i could see happening.
That said he is a complete liability playing atm and how much better did we look today when he wasn't on the field..
We can go on about limited pre-seasons and not a lot of games under his belt, confidence low.
The problem is none of that matters in the scheme of Port improving.
Sure if he can get better, great chuck him in the SANFL until he finds form.
If he doesnt he stays at that level or leaves SANFL as well.
Why bother keeping in a player who is average SANFL level just because he may eventually play well.
That is what got Port into this mess we are only recovering from.
Keeping players on the list that do not stand up, on the hope that maybe they may do so.

I'd rather Salter or maybe even Shaw. Renouf's a liability forward and will only detract from Lobbe in the middle. It'd be nice to have Redden fit.

If we had a better alternative, I'm sure Butcher wouldn't be in the side ATM. The problem is, look at the alternatives:
Redden: Would be ideal, but he's not an option because he's out injured for the year.
Nick Salter/Daniel Stewart: Both in their mid-20's, both in poor SANFL form that doesn't warrant a call-up, both almost certain to be delisted at the end of the year. Why bother? If we must play somebody who's not gonna do much, we may as well play somebody who might have some upside in the future.
Renouf: Dinosaur. His forward work makes Butcher look like Nick Riewoldt, so playing him would lead us to needing to play Lobbe elsewhere. Robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Mason Shaw: Even less ready for AFL than Butcher is.
Was our structure really that poor in the last quarter and a half?
It completely opened up our forward line, there was spaxe and pretty much every entry was effective. When he was on the field it was so crowded due to his poor leads, i was at the game, the camera was not following where he was leading too and it was horrible and incohesive. when butcher went off monfries had so much more space and room to lead into. 6 goals to monfries with butcher off the field, nuff said.yeah because him being off the field had everything to do with our increased run off the hbf in the 3rd and 4th qtrs.
