This is such a boring and short sighted opinion.

Can't wait for the triumphant "I told you so" posts if and when he is delisted from you and the people who share your opinion. What a fun day on bigfootball that will be.

Bigfootball

Lol.

We've already sponsored Butch once ...
And he didn't turn up for the dinner he was supposed to have with us. I think there was a medical reason*. We got Broadbent and Jonas instead, it was a good night.

* before anyone says it, not because we make him sick.

You're right, he had knee surgery. No wonder he didn't come good, the magic never washed over him.

But Jonas and Broadbent were sensational value.

Good to see Butch get involved against GWS. Forward line looked much more mobile, and he provided more in the air than Schultzy. He was also smart drawing players away from Westy, when Westy took a couple of grabs...

I reckon Essendon wanted him in a trade last year for Ryder. I would imagine he will get another contract, but his pay will be cut/possibly he will even be Rookie listed. With this, and Schultzy traded, it opens up salary cap space maybe for Dixon....

Interesting the different views on Butchers performance against GWS. I personally thought he was horrid, fumbled virtually every ball he got his hands on, kicked like a drunk as usual, pulled one goal out of his you know what. Surely we've seen more than enough of him at AFL level. The crowd on here tend to cut players a bit of slack when the team has a win, if he'd played that same game in a 10 goal loss he would have been crucified.

If only we had more players pulling goals out of their you know what like this.

He also did things like this, which I think our forward line has been missing.

I can be as hard on Butch as anyone but that clip should be shown to every player to emphasize workrate required at AFL level.. Bloody good effort Butch.

The best part of Butch's game last week was his reckless/physical attack on player/ball - I've got a feeling he has turned the corner. He will never be a champion but I've got a feeling...

Everybody had a hard year
Everybody had a good time
Everybody had a wet dream
Everybody saw the sunshine
Oh yeah, (oh yeah) oh yeah, oh yeah
Everybody had a good year
Everybody let their hair down
Everybody pulled their socks up
Everybody put their foot down
Oh yeah
Yeah I've got a feeling
A feeling deep inside
Oh yeah

You will not be getting any 'told you so' from me from me because I am not on an ego trip. If you look back on my posts you will find I have pumped for Butcher to get a fair shot at it and I have posted that I hope Butcher makes it. I have even suggested that Butcher be rookie listed if he is delisted. I sincerely hope Butcher makes it not to prove anyone right or wrong but for his sake and the benefit of the Port Adelaide Football Club.

For you to criticise other posters on boring opinions is akin to a pot calling the kettle names. How long have you been using the same old themes to pump Butcher's tyres up? Do you honestly believe that any true Port supporter is going to rejoice at a player being delisted? Your opinion would be funny if it were not so sad.

What the hell has happened to that kicking action? It still wasn't perfect but at least he was charging up and kicking through the ball. How many players have been drafted to an AFL club only to have the fundamentals of their game get progressively worse?

I was wondering that too. He had a run up like Michael Holding then let rip. Now he's more like Ray Bright.

Getting drafted to late Williams/Primus-era Port happened.

Remember, this is a time period that saw Kane Cornes converted from AA to SANFL player, Danyle Pearce from Rising Star to SANFL player and Steven Salopek and Jacob Surjan from very good players to premature delistees.

As I've said many times before, like Northeast his action was unconventional but they went straight.

If he'd had a hand in five of our goals in a losing side - as the latest of call ups for Schulz - he'd have been crucified?

Actually that sounds about right.

Another thing that stands out on the video relates to a point that Macca19 raised on the BigFooty pod - he takes a stack of grabs but very few does he have a great deal of separation from the defender. They are almost always on his hammer. Based on the clip it seemed to be a combination of judging the flight, guarding the drop zone and marking at the highest point. On that basis he's probably struggled against higher quality defending combined with some confidence issues.

The kicking is interesting as well, looked a much more natural action, particularly on the run. Sort of looks like he was able to swing from the hips more easily where as now a combination of physical restriction and yips makes for a much more mechanic kick.

I would have thought that giving more space and running through the ball would have assisted his kicking, but I'm nowhere near an expert on that sort of thing.

As I said, different opinions are what it's all about. We all watched the same game, some including me thought he was shocking, others saw positives. Personally I'd like to see a key forward do more than just attack the ball and crash packs. I can't mark or kick either but will happily crash a few packs for a few hundred k per year as would hundreds of country footballers who do that every weekend. I admire the loyalty some supporters show towards Butcher, actually it amazes me, I don't think I've seen too many guys on an AFL field who are so obviously out of their depth. Just out of interest, did those 5 goals you're giving him credit for include fumbled marks he should have held which he 'brought to ground for the crumbers'. The reaction to the 1 goal he did kick says it all really - was like witnessing a miracle.

Butcher kicks 5 goals 2.

BUT THOSE HELICOPTER KICKS FOR GOAL TRIBEY. CAN'T KICK CAN'T PLAY!

I reckon Westhoff's going to play until he's at least 35. He has the right skinniness for it.

His dad played well into his 40's. Country footy legend, even though he was a Boxhead.
