There are worse. We just haven't seen this level of blind defense of one player since Koulagirl over a decade ago.

Because he's competing well.

It's not a certainty though, really depends on how deep we wish to cut. As I've posted before, I don't think it will be a major issue if Schulz and Butcher are cut.

Lockett, Dunstall, and Wankary would have struggled to kick goals with Port's abysmal forward structure, and lack of even half reasonable supply from the midfield.

It's a bit difficult to kick goals when you are regularly 30 - 50 metres out of position too, so I'm not sure how a bloke like Butcher, who is obviously fighting for his spot on the list, could be judged on today's effort.

Charlie appears to be one of those players that if he gets it wrong early ( ie misjudging the flight of the ball ) it sets the tone for his day.

Getting him on the park more often than gc is about the only thing we can hang our hats on, as it could probably be argued that other areas of his game have either stagnated or gone backwards.

Yet he still kicked 10 more goals for GC last year than he did for us.

I think he does. Whether he wants to is another question. The risk of being played in the SANFL for large parts of the year again under this joke of a coaching system vs potentially first 22 for a side and prolonged future might be something he could be offered. If someone from Victoria offered me something I'd be straight out. He's almost been damaged here.

no one has to defend Dixon when he plays a shit game because no one is coming after him.

If Butcher and Schulz are both on the list next year we have massive issues. Can maybe understand 1 given Dougal is gone for the majority of 2017 (and i think that would be Butch on the basis that Schulzys body is shot).

Personally, I would thank them both for their efforts and move them both on.

I've been concerned about our forward line since parts of 2013, but we hadn't gone full Ken then and it continued to work thanks to not going full Ken, and players like Schulz, Wingard, Monfries, along with heavy input from goal kicking midfielders.

Every year the structure has gotten progressively worse and less sustainable, and the players it worked in favour off are dropping off. I'm pointing the finger firmly at Ken. It probably doesn't help that Nicks seems like a Ken disciple and would have offered zero resistance to his ideals.

Same noises about cutting Butch were coming "from within" this time last year, but just to be perfectly obscure about it... not directly from the Football department.

IMO though, given Doog's injury it's very hard to see Butch being straight up delisted if Schulz is cooked. That would leave us less covered for KPFs next year than we were for Rucks this year.

I'd rather butch on 70k than vickery on 4-500k.

Name some other KPfs on the move . Maybe James Stewart. Maybe Tomlinson....maybe. I really want to know who this mysterious bloke we can get in is.

Butch stays on the list unless some kpfs fall into our lap. We have Westy as the only durable kpf on our list.

just because we've had kpf stocks now doesn't mean we have to maintain the status quo. Minimum one of them stay, if i had my choice both.

How many games are you basing that on?
In his first game we got beaten, kinda flogged, and he did as much as Schulz, possibly more apart from the last minute goal.
In his third game where we also got flogged he did as much as Dixon, possibly more and in his second game he did what he had to do and even topped the points thingamajig.

Not saying he has set the world on fire but geesh, double standards?

Yea I'm just guessing that might be their mindset he's been on the list a long time we've probably reached the tipping point but yes the lack of ready made talls to lure here may save him.

Why Butch wasn't the first player chosen to replace Schulz way back in round 2 didn't make sense, and if he gets the full DCM at the end of the season, I wish him well, as I doubt any other Power listed player has been as poorly managed as him in the club's so far 20 year AFL history.

His career total is 40.20, so he's not as bad as his reputation suggests. It's about average for a developing KPF.

The only difference is that when he misses he does it proper!
