He is under pressure to keep his spot, needs a run in the midfield to show his versatility.

Lots of defenders in very very good form pushing for his spot.

Could see Sam used as part trade bait for the best 17 year old gws have available at end of season.

Especially since Sheedy as mentioned needing stronger experience players in the back half, where they struggle a lot.

But thats just a guess.

Sam does need to do something to keep his spot though, there's a feeling already around the club that Brennan is going to be very good for us.

Would have to give up a lot more than Sam Butler to get a crack one of the 17 year olds.

Brennan is fast becoming one of my favourite players at the club, he's seriously a gun in the making.

Certainly has allot of blokes behind him queuing up, I'm sure he has the ability to succeed but I'm not certain about his body.

Brennan IMO is on par with Smith at least ATM.

On form this year actually Butler is probably on par with all three of them.

Butler has good hands and is a neat kick; but geez he gets palmed a lot in tackles.Agree with all the comments on Brennan;very composed.Would never consider Butler in front of Smith;that kids got genuine pace and a thumping kick.

Without him teams just tag Hurn and we struggle to get out from kick-ins and have poor rebound. No one else is anywhere near good enough to help with the sweeper and rebound kicking. Smith is not there yet, Waters is only OK, rest not worth writing about. I didn't think he was our worst defender last week so I believe a lot of this is premature. Brennan is a 3rd tall defender replacing Schoey, don't make him more than he is. The competition for Butler is Smith, Sheppard, Adam Selwood. Of those he's the most reliable kick and best disposer under pressure. Only his second game back in the side, we can't afford to not have him in.

While that was funny at the time (and I am a fan of Butler's), the tackle was stupid. All Reiwoldt needed to do was lean forward and would been a clear in the back free.

Your wrong about Brennan he is not a third tall, he is a rebounding flanker, back pocket.
Plays on a lot of smalls at wafl level and carves them up.
He is very good over head and can play tall occasionally, but is better suited to taking the game on as he loves to run and carry.
Which will make him very important in these days of the press.

Can't believe all the Butler hate. Was AA quality last season. He's had a poor start to the season, fine, but it's laughable if anyone think he's going to get delisted.

Pffft called this YEARS ago...nice to see you're all catching up.

He won't be on the list in 2013....probably 'retire' at the end of year.
So you said a guy would be delisted years ago and now he's out of selection favour he must be getting delisted?

Where can I subscribe to your predictions?

only inside the heads of some people on BF. really nowhere near it. just because he kicks well, doesnt mean he is AA quality. wasnt even short listed.

its not hate, its facts of life. needs to do more and it seems eagles coaches also think so.

not delisted end of this year....moved on maybe, but if he doesnt pick up his game, definately delisted end of 2013

i thought Stevenson, Wilson and Brennan did very well as our trio of back line runners in the NAB cup.....

That may well be the case, but the season proper is a step up intensity wise from the NAB cup.

Brennan, on the evidence of his performances thus far, looks to be up to it.

Be interesting to see how the other two go when the inevitable opportunity (at least the way we are going with injuries) arises! :thumbsu:

I think the Eagles should consider moving Butler out of the backline and play him either as part of the rotating midfield or as the crumbing forward against St Kilda and maybe beyond this game. He reads the play well and has very good disposal. I think he would be a better option than Neates this week.

Not sure a quiet game or two makes a delisting. He has quality disposal we can use - where is the question? Half forward - who knows him well enough to comment

Regardless Brennan has done enough to show potential we need to invest in. I think Shep has come a long way he now has the confidence to run and use his ability in this area, composure to use his great disposal and his tackling much better. A great selection delema to have.

Sheppard still didn't do enough for me to stay in the team. That being said he prob does need a few games together to get used to the pace of AFL.

Hey all. Came over to have a look at the talk for the game on Sunday and this caught my eye. I think that some people here are really under-rating Butler if they think he should be put up for trade at the end of the year.

That said, I would love to see him in a Saints jumper. IF he was put up what do you think is fair in a trade?

Didn't see any of that in his AFL games, lookes like a shorter version of Schofield, whereas I've seen Butler play the role better last season. You don't address my issue of having a good kick out of the backline - everyone seems to forget how poorly we performed when Hurn was hard tagged and Butler was out.
