No, I have long said he was over rated by the masses. Not good enough to play in the midfield at AFL level he is simply marking time in the back line until a better option comes along...first Smith...now Brennan...Butler won't be a regular this season. Considering he is injury plagued and has been on the list for nearly 10 seasons it's not that much of a stretch to say he won't get another contract.

Fair enough. I wouldn't disagree that smalls and medium-sized defenders are going to have to work hard to get a game with the stock we have, but I think there's a place for him on our list while his body holds up.

Butler is a General, should of been VC over the years but injuries cruelled him. Not many players with his cool in defense, he goes below the radar which is worth its weight in gold !

In an interview a few years back I think our last good year (2012) he was stating that he has never thought he's been best 22. I'd be surprised if he left, imagine if he won a flag, fuaaaark me.

I rate Butler above Ellis. Butler keeps his poise under pressure and showed what he can still do in the GF when so many did not. Ellis kicking at times is woeful.

Ellis didn't have the greatest season in 2015, I thought his best efforts were defending against taller players when we were short of options down back, so I'd certainly have Butler ahead of him atm.

I like how Ellis goes about it, he is pretty courageous for a slim guy. But i don't think he should be best 22 next year. I
