I think the Westway decision will be either a big winner or a big losser. Hopefully it is a winner, and will bring a freshness about the club, i think we will do ok out of it.

Rod Butterss earns my respect for his gracious move. As I predicted, he saw the writing on the wall and moved aside, avoiding a huge fight. Expect this story to die shortly after Greg Westaway speaks at the Best & Fairest.

Hopefully the majority of members will be proven right, because if they are we are due for a great period in the history of our football club. I hope all our members are back next year and on board for what should be an exciting year. Hopefully we can come close to replicating the first quarter v West Coast for 100 quarters next year.

What are eveyone's thoughs about Greg Westaway?

Excited, or do you think he may be a disaster for the St Kilda footy club?
Westaway said that he had "three confirmed sponsors worth in excess of $1M" [quote from FF website, their emphasis not mine] and ex-Saints ready to become involved with the club as soon as he became president. If that's the case, then all of this should be clear by the end of the week. If it turns out not to have been true, I think it will be a very worrying sign.

Here's hoping he's right. If he delivers on those two promises, I will start to feel more relaxed.

Thomas was not the correct man for the job in the first place. he is a businessman, not a coach NH. having said that his tenure there was pretty good, and his removal because of the realtionship with butters, but the full story between the 2 hasn't come to the public, nor will it.And i don't care to say any more about it. and i agree with the fact that he isn't be there now.

Can't say - as they haven't made up their minds on whether they will definitely stand at the election. Some well known names amongst the group though.

BTW - source is one of the members of the 'group'.

And FWIW - I've got no motivation to stir up your mob (not until next footy season anyway). Just happens to be that I've had beers over the past week with a few St Kilda people that I know and do some work with - and have been given some mail - including the board stepping down.

Didn't see any harm in sharing some of the news with you over here today.
Are any of Steve Bedwell, Scott Dennison, Andrew Westaway or Andrew or David Fox involved?

A yes or no will do.

I heard Rod on SEN this afternoon. I thought he left with real dignity and class. I appreciated his efforts and he should be congratulated on his overall efforts. I for one will be getting behind the new board and here's hoping they can do their best for our boys and the supporters. Here's to 2008 :thumbsu:.
Totally agree. Rod has done a lot for the Saints and I am glad he moved on with dignity. All Saints fan now need to get behind the new board as I am sure thet only have the best interest of the club and players at heart.

I agree with Len Dog - Grant Thomas should never of been appointed the first place.

At least we have learnt through Watson, Thomas, that you should consider canditates that have gone through the more traditional channels (i.e extensive assistant coaching roles) Although that does not promise success, the success rates are a lot higher. Very suprised to see Voss rated so highly as a potential coach, done no coaching apprentice. Would of been risky.

You have a very short memory ChrisFooty. Cast your mind back to 2004 and especially 2005. Everyone ackowledged (at the time), that we were decimated by injuries and it was an incredible effort that we got to the prelims.
THAT IS FACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's fact, everyone acknowledged at the time that we were decimated by injuries and it was an incredible performance to get to the prelims. Ask around and prove it to yourself instead of making smart arse remarks and calling me a tool.

No, most people I speak to (including people in AFL circles) believe that St Kilda had no excuse, especially in 2005, and the teams that took the park in two Preliminary Finals for St Kilda were good enough to win a flag.

Face it - Thomas failed as a coach. He got sacked. Personally, I care as much about him now as I do about Mike Patterson or Graham Gellie.

In fairness to Nexus.. i think you've lost the plot a bit oh when the saints.. the fact is we lost to port by 6 points with out aaron hammil, arguable our most important player, and justin koschitzke, huge x factor as a third tall forward.

the following year we lost to sydney after leading at three quarter time by about 33, but we had 6 of our best 18 out of our side, not to mention sydney throwing cheap shots at our players.

we lost, yes. but you can admit we were unlucky with injury. clearly we had strong sides, how can u possible say we didnt have strong enough side when we made it to the prelim, then we had 2 guns out and we lost on the road to port by 6 points... wake up

You are always going to have injuries, and 2004 we had no more than Port (who were missing their #1 ruck and #1 mid in Primus and Francou).
But we gave our all and fell short of the mark. Obviously weren't good enough, although we should have had a home final after the streak.

2005 ... it is my opinion that the 22 players who took the field were better than the 22 players in the opposition side that night. Doesn't matter who was out ... as Mick Malthouse says, there are 22 blokes out there.

I repeat what I said to Nexus ... Thomas failed as a coach. He got sacked. Personally, I care as much about him now as I do about Mike Patterson or Graham Gellie.

I think we were 13 points in front at 3 quarter time. One thing you forgot to mention is that in 2005 Sydney made 1 forced change in the last 10 weeks of the season. That is a football miracle and when you add that to us having 6 of our best 22 out then you start to realize how unlucky we really were.......unlike some on here.

Also, regarding 2004 against Port, that ground invasion cost us the match. If that had not happend we would have played Brisbane in the Grand Final. If you go back and watch the tape Port were shell shocked when Gehrig got his 100th. After the game was re-started Port got 2 quick goals that they would never have got otherwise. We would have led by at least 30 points if it wasn't for that break in play. We ended up leading by 5 points and went on to lose by 6.

Maybe the reason we always struggle injuries aside is that we focus so much on the board and football department etc...
Every other clubs forum at the moment is talking about who to take in the draft, who to trade and who to trade for, i could of sworn games of footy used to be won the field, perhaps im wrong and if footy first take us to a flag get Greg Westaway and co on the dias, but until then maybe we could look at ways to benefit the team and hopefully stabilise the board.

Everyone acknowledged Grant Thomas as a good coach. Ok Nexus:rolleyes:

It was a complete farce the whole selection process for his appointment. Very shoddy for a proffessional club to use. We made the wrong choice in selecting him, like we did with Tim Watson.

Very confident Ross will be ten times better, as those two.

Yes, NH drop off.. Ross is the man, and he is going to be the man for a while now, we've had injuries for the last few years, as well as this year also, and by your thought process, if we didn't have those injuries, we would have made the 8 and possibly gone quite far in the finals, but it doesn't matter because the fact is, we didnt!! so move on and stop living in the past.. we've got a great list and RL will be sensational along with the guys he is bringing to the club with him.. the future is looking up, not down you pathetic pessimist..

We've got plenty to look forward to now. Clean fresh board for next year and players would have recovered from their injuries.

Coaching style will be settled so we should be able to nail a spot in the top 8. :thumbsu:
