Im so glad you weren't like most Port Magpie fans who barracked for the Crows before 97. Im glad you stuck by the crows and didn't jump ship to follow the new franchise Port Power.
I was a Maggie through and through and stayed on. Not like the band wagoners that are no doubt closet crows supporters. Probably the ones who abuse us the most too.

Was a bit young for Ando although I do recall the 93/94 seasons when Modra mania hit. Left footer wasn't he ?? Can distinctly remember he and Tregenza belting down the wings.
Yes, ando's booming left foot & trigger's floaters gave mods plenty of opportunities to take yet another hanger. :)

It also says a lot that the first of those good games came ~2.75 seasons into a 3 season stint.
I remember thinking he was an OK recruit to begin with.
My memory of Tambling's Adelaide career is as follows:
1) He starts off respectably....
3) He returns to reasonable form....
Which is it?
1) He starts off respectably.
~1.5) Somewhere in this stint he takes a mark, which is acknowledged by the umpire, and plays on. Said umpire changes his mind calling it a free kick against Adelaide and 50m against Tambling for kicking the ball away. A goal is conceded as a result
2) He has a terrible game against Carlton.
3) He returns to reasonable form, but is made a scapegoat after Collingwood kick 10 goals in the last 15 minutes of a game.
4) Disappears into the wilderness for 2 years
5) Plays a crucial role in a come from behind win against Geelong.
6) Kicks a goal
7) The end
This is actually not an entirely unreasonable summary, but doesn't quite accord with your statement that he didn't play a decent game until his AFC career was nearly over. Also, which was the game where he got suspended? My memory was that he had been playing better and better each game up until that point, then was hung out to dry by Craig with that bizarre 'toughness' video and rarely picked after that except for fill in roles.

By good game I probably should have put "great game", there certainly wasn't anything like his effort against Geelong in the first year.

"house on fire" is stretching it. I remember thinking he was an OK recruit to begin with.

7) The end
The two moments I remember from him were when we were told to play with more aggression he gets suspended the week after and made a mockery of by Neil Craig during the week with that stupid video he showed off to the press about tough football.

The other was him stopping a then BOG Sandilands in his tracks around 2011ish by accidentally poking him in the eye. Relegating Sandilands to the bench for the rest of the game. We still got flogged I think as well.

1. Greg Anderson - Star in 93, solid in 94, handy at times in 95, cooked in 96. He was one of the main reasons we played finals in 93, he was great, the dashing blond with a boombing kick from the Bombers was more than a serviceable recruit, played in the 1990 grand final.
2. Andrew Crowell - Quick big man whith a lot of guts, was used at full forward, full back, and as a medium sized player around the ground, never fully cemented a position. Had some injuries as well and could excite footy park.
3. James Podsiadly - The Jpod, the feel good story of the 2011 grand final apart from the pies dropping another one. was handy throughout 2014, played more than some expected, injuries and switch to defence ruined 2015, would of loved to see him in the team again taking pressure off Tex and Eddie, while putting more on Double J, had the odd brain fade thought he was still at the cats snapping the ball instead of using a drop punt. great contested mark, will be a great coach. Went out with a giant bang in the reserves with all thoes goals.
4. Nick Gill - An enigma, was recruited to fill a hole in the forward line. His first game cost us, 1.3, the crowd would show so much dissapointment when his set shots would shank, had strong hands and could take a great mark and lead well. He made up for his kicking woes on debut by kicking 5.3 a year later against Essendon in Melboure ffor our first ever victory over them out side SA. Squeezed out by the arrival of Tippett Walker and Porps. Is now a radio presenter.
5. Richard Tambling - Swapped for the Bock compo pick (cant remember who was selected with that pick) his best game was his last, he looked free and relieved in that game and kicked his first and only goal in crows colours, I believe he was offered a position or a rookie position or even a spot at the reserves but turned us down to retire and play SANFL with Sturt and NT Thunder. Dont blame him though after the way our coaches used him, especially off half back.
6. Lucas Herbert - 14 games, left on the bench all game by Blight vs the Dogs in 1999 where we had a massive lead and lost, ruck fell apart after half time, could of been the difference, had 2 other 0 stat games, not sure how much game time he got in them. His best game was his first, became a hero when he saved someones life from a fire.
7. Romano Negri - 6 games, wore the lowest number in our first game vs Hawks in 91, also played for North Hobart

This is one of the reasons Craig really p1ssed me off. Tambling was treated like shit by that pr1ck, he was playing some good footy at times when he was screwed over. Sando was an idiot, leave it at that.

Greg Anderson for me, but even he frustrated me later in his career. Hopefully someone can make #1 their own and have a long career in it.
