One of the greatest teams in the history of the game. Buddy, Roughead, Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis, Roili, Burgoyne - gives you freedom to do what ever you like. They would have all been exceptional in any team they played in.

Hodge went at 1, Roughey 2, Buddy 4, Lewis 7, Rioli and Burgoyne both at 12.
So what's the point of the coach? We may as well sack him now and go through the season rudderless. And while we're at it we can go back to 95% of the salary cap and save some dosh to pay the stars when we get them.

Funny thing is you used to accuse me of wanting to lose, but fact is, it's all you want. Did you clap every Eagles goal?

I have no faith in scotts anymore. You just know he aint going to change his ways now. His inflexibility on game day to make changes when the game is starting to slip away from us, then he will finally make a change when we are 6-7 goals down. His stubbornness of not playing the kids, yes i know we had 4 new draftees play on the weekend but that's crap. Should of blooded a few last year when injuries struck. Example why did it take nikky dal to miss for clarke to debut last year or even evw to get a game or 2 last year under his belt.
I love these couch coaches that would have done things differently and we would have had a better result.

You make out like you would be a flexible senior coach that could throw the magnets on the board at each quarter and the players would be awesome. You would also make changes well before a game start slipping away (matrix mind reading like) and would have played heaps of kids even if they weren't ready with great success. Maybe even pinched the 2017 flag!!

Easy from the couch.....

So we should hire a well trained puppy to coach us then. Imagine the savings!

I hate losing. But we are now at the stage where we must play our kids and see who can be part of our next premiership.

Which Scott has started to do. Playing the kids will see us lose more than we win. The positive of that is we get games into the kids, see who can play and get top end draft picks to bring in elite talent - which we desperately need.

Sacking a coach does not guarantee success. I didn't accuse you of wanting to lose - you posted you wanted us to lose.

(Matrix like reading) haha ok champ. Blind freedy could see when the game tide turns/ opposition sides get a run on and what does scott try and do? To stem the flow nothing. So what we won like 2 of the last 11 games last year and we couldn't of blooded 1 or 2 draftees in that time. Give me a spell.

Neither does getting lots of early picks mate. Melbourne have nobody left from their first venture down that path, Carlton have a whole stack of top tenners, Gold Coast have the second most early picks ever.
Absolutely - I posted before when you get the top pick you must nail them. Finally the Dees did and now on the right path. But they are heading up because of their early picks. Oliver in his 2nd year was BOG on the weekend. Hogan, Petracca, Brayshaw and Viney fantastic picks.

Hawks did in one draft - pick 2 Roughead, 4 Buddy and 7 Lewis. That is a fair start for a premiership build.

Nobody wants to lose and were certainly stuck in a rut where we just can't seem to win. I remember seeing something on FoxFooty with Paul Roos saying 'we've already hit our low' with all those losses from last year, may have been mentioned in earlier posts, haven't read to far back.

We, as in the players and staff can't afford to complacent in how we play footy and have our coach and leadership week in week out quote to the media 'we weren't good enough, not at the level we should be etc' sounds too much like the north of 2009-2010-2011 when teams would belt us by 10goals .

So, play the kids why not, we weren't that BAD on Sunday imo, few things went didn't go according to plan but its round 1! Remember Giants, Swans, Hawks all got rolled teams that played well into September, and imo doggies look vulnerable as well so no team is without its faults.

Develop our new crop, see what they provide in the next few weeks before we push panic buttons.

Clarke had 11 touches in 77% game time v saints and 7 touches v Hawks. Had a good start but clearly needed another pre season.

Our entire 2014 group have struggled with injury and as KP players take time to develop. Who did you want in the team?

There is no guarantee. Hawks nailed one draft, Dogs two, but they also chose exceptional coaches - Clarkson is a genius - so who knows if even those draftees would have looked the successes they have turned out to be if they had played under other coaches? Melbourne, Carlton and Gold Coast have laid waste to the draft year after year and stayed ordinary. Sydney and Geelong haven't had the top draftees and have created flags anyway, not with brilliant coaches but with very good ones who regenerate intelligently as they go.

I'd rather North aimed to be a great club with a great culture and a very good coaching group, than hope individual players or senior coach turn out to be brilliant. Then even if you don't win the flag you don't lose everything else along the way.

Isn't that what Scott been banging on about for years now?

That whilst we were bringing in FA and playing veterans to push into finals, it would not be at the expense of the future and 'sustained success' is the target?

Well if so, it will be interesting what our results are this year - as if we were successful in that approach, it certainly doesn't suggest a rebuild or bottom 4 type performance.

Looking at premiership coaches the last 20 or so years, the most common pattern seems to be that they win an premiership with that team within the first five years of their tenure. There are some exceptions to the rule as highlighted below, but it seems to be if you haven't won within five years it looks unlikely:

Luke Beveridge (2nd year, Western Bulldogs, 2016)
Alastair Clarkson (4th year, Hawthorn, 2008)
John Longmire (2nd year, Sydney, 2012)
Chris Scott (1st year, Geelong, 2011)
Michael Malthouse (3rd year, West Coast, 1992 - 11th year, Collingwood, 2010)
Mark Thompson (8th year, Geelong, 2007)
John Worsfold (5th year, West Coast, 2006)
Paul Roos (4th year, Sydney, 2005)
Mark Williams (6th year, Port Adelaide, 2004)
Leigh Matthews (5th year, Collingwood, 1990 - 3rd year, Brisbane, 2001)
Denis Pagan (4th year, North Melbourne, 1996)

EDIT: Brad Scott is in his 8th season.

Yes this is a good point, however every one of those teams had serious top end talent (multiple high draft picks/COLA/Brisbane concessions/FS) I suppose Pagan didn't but inherited a bloody good list. We have had a lot of good players and some have had elite seasons but very few consistently elite players

The point of the coach is to give supporters that don’t have a great understanding of game a target to vent their rage and disgust at.

These supporters could do a better job - they would have made match winning moves, stopped any run on before they even started, selected the right players, played them all in their best positions, developed them all to become superstars and would never ever lose a game - ever.

Taking medication in some cases can help with the delusional world they live in - but then their self-importance on an internet forum would diminish and could even lead to silly little sign off's disappearing. :stern chook

Is that so? I put it to you that your above response is that of an idiot who has painted himself into a corner with his nonsensical ramblings on the subject and thus is hesitant to answer the question with sincerity. Do you honestly believe that there is one poster on this forum buying your bullshit? Coaches are important. The right coach can make a difference to a side. Your failure to admit this makes you look like a raging clueless dildoe. :stern look

Pagan at north had the cattle = 2 flags.
Pagan at the blues didn't = 2 spoons.

It does not matter how good the coach is if they don't have the players to win a flag. Pagan is one of a lot of coaches to win a flag at 1 club and fail dismally at another.

Since Scott took over did you ever look over our list and think this looks like a premiership winning list?
