This thread is usually a case of open thread...nope nothing new to see here...close thread. Still is.

And my view hasn't changed. Brad is a decent coach - as soon as a great one comes along that we can snaffle, he's gone. If one of his lieutenants outperforms him - he's gone. As soon as he loses the playing group, he's gone.

But in the meantime, he stays. I'm not into chucking the baby out with the bathwater on this one.

Agree. He has time - but it's running out.

Thanks astrovic. Your's is a voice of reason.

A commodity that is in very, very, very, very, very short supply on this board.

Every time I read threads like this, or threads on selection, thankfully I am reassured in the knowledge that decisions of this nature - coaching, selection - are made by wiser, cooler heads than frequent this board.

I think this thread should be closed. One week into the season and we are seeing this stuff. It is a waste of everyone's time. It and other threads like it, divide us as a group. Unnecessary insults are hurled back and forth in pointless manner and achieve nothing, apart from I suspect driving some posters away from Bigfooty in disgust.

And of course we continue to see some terrible things written about some players on the Autopsy thread, things that no-one would be prepared to say in person directly to the player, or the coach for that matter.

Little wonder that Simmo several years ago warned all young players to steer well clear of bigfooty because of some of the terrible things that they would be likely to read, maybe even about themselves. Little wonder that at one of the functions that I went to back in that time, when I and a few others were introduced as being from bigfooty, the look in his eyes could have killed.

Is that so? I put it to you that your above response is that of an idiot who has painted himself into a corner with his nonsensical ramblings on the subject and thus is hesitant to answer the question with sincerity. Do you honestly believe that there is one poster on this forum buying your bullshit? Coaches are important. The right coach can make a difference to a side. Your failure to admit this makes you look like a raging clueless dildoe. :stern look
Pretty sure dildoe doesn't have an e in it, may be academic but....

Pagan at north had the cattle = 2 flags.
Pagan at the blues didn't = 2 spoons.

It does not matter how good the coach is if they don't have the players to win a flag. Pagan is one of a lot of coaches to win a flag at 1 club and fail dismally at another.

Since Scott took over did you ever look over our list and think this looks like a premiership winning list?
WB with respect, applying this logic says to me Brads premiership/s lie at another club not north. Cattle wise we can debate that til the cows come home, fact remains Brads list has not delivered the ultimate goal. It's reesonable to consider and debate what another person in that position could achieve with the stock at hand.

One of the reasons I came from Facecrap to his board was to get away from all this kind of stuff TBH. Player and coach bashing etc. But least with this board it has a topic and I can avoid it but sometimes my curiosity gets the better of me.

The problem we've encountered when closing past threads like this is that the same crap, once confined (mostly) to the dedicated thread, infiltrates every other thread, turning them into the same inane arguments we see here.

The fact he's contracted to the end of season 2018 and would hence require a massive payout seems a moot point to many.

Of course time is of the essence if he's to further his time here, or even see out the next two seasons in full, but I doubt very much that there will be any change this year after the board gave him the green light to oversee an "aggressive reset".

"Yeah but its the interwebs. I should be able to say what I want" exlaimed the gen y and z folgs who got awards for participating, were told they were perfect and they could be and have anything they want in the world.

I try to stick to that simple strategy you point out above Horace, don't say shit about people that you would not be prepared to say to that person directly. It keeps you honest and forces you to really think about why you think a certain way on a particular person or topic. For example, I have no problem telling Zondor he is a flog, because he is one, and he knows it. Him and his 423 mates. But in all seriouslynessyness though if people thought long and hard as to why they think Gibbo can go neck himself, and Scott can go shag his brother for all I care and apply critical thinking to their own, reasonable, intelligent responses in this thread might actually outnumber the poorly constructed shit bubbles that make up the most of it to this point.

If folk want Scott gone, fine. Articulate it and make sense. And fair play to all who have to this point. The rest of you, lift yer game campaigners.

Reading the comment section under mainstream media stories reminds you that it's hardly just the youngsters. Used to be us oldies would wistfully recall when everyone knew their manners - nowadays we are just as likely to be rudely abusing anyone we don't agree with.

More a grumpy old reflection but our threads about individuals do seem to bring these thoughts to mind.

Yep.

People putting this down to a generational thing are kidding themselves. There is an overwhelmingly impressive amount of idiots out there.

Consider it a 'countdown' style thread. Sure Scott isn't going now as his golfing mate signed him up well ahead of time, but he will eventually be gone.

Sooner rather than later hopefully and we can truly refesh. Scott seems a great guy, it's his coaching that some heavily criticise, and for mine understandably so - no need to get so defensive/precious about it, it's not personal etc.

Like many topics, it's as much in jest as serious, just spirited discussion as we all want us to improve.

As you are in the 'pro-Scott' camp, how much time do you give, and on what basis?

Does he get this season regardless of our and his results, or should he have KPIs this season to earn his last year?
We don't sack out coaches so I haven't really contemplated this happening until the end of last year and the players he retired.

I have no doubt he will survive 2017 no matter the results. He has to play the kids and push more oldies out at years end.

Would be great if we can get a top liner at the end of the year - hopefully with foot skills and pace (yes I am talking Kelly).

The list IMO - is not strong enough for him to win enough games in 2018 to get an extension. If I was a betting man it would be that 2017 will be his last full year as coach. Which as history has shown can be a good time for the in coming coach - 2 years of top end talent and some decent trades can turn a club quickly.

Just remember for every Beveridge there are twenty Bucks and I ain't talking dollars. The last thing we need is a Neeld, Hardwick or god forbid a *hird.

I wonder if Schimma was still at NM would we have won the 96 and 99 flags.

We don't? Laidley was told to either walk away or be sacked, chose the former. Schimm sacked and we thrived with him gone.

No we don't want a Drum or Neeld etc. Nor do we want to keep a coach forever that because he is better than rubbish, but worse than great, and go nowhere. It's time to take some risks.

I think your crystal balling may well be how it works out. (rightly or wrongly)

I'd like to think he has far harsher performance measures than you think this year though, we're supposed to be sustained success club according to Brad hence why kept picks etc, going to the bottom just because we retire a few geriatrics doesn't suggest that at all (regardless of whether in our best interests).

He was stiff - Carey exploded in 93. A kid named McAdam debuted and kicked 7, 10, 6, 3, 3 & 9 in his first 6 games. Schwass 23, Archer 22, Stevens 22, Rock 22 & we recruited Blakey.

Perfect storm for old Dennis. Still think he left 1 behind in the 90's.

Yeah it was a shame there was no season in 1998 ,would have been right in our sweet spot.

Shimma was the last coach sacked - 23 years ago.

"Laidley said he had been considering leaving the club since his team's loss to Sydney during last year's finals series."
