It is stupid to be stating that there are absolutely better and available options out there without knowing the industry intimately. It is also absolutely stupid to state that there are no better options out there without being in the industry and then wanting to give a bloke who has delivered very little another 3 year contract on that basis.

18 weeks for Scott to right this ship. Not long...
Those finals last year didn't feel like very little to me... This year isn't over yet, I said at least one finals win.

Ok Phillyroo how about this..

We finish 2015 H&A in 7th. We then win 2 tight finals - against Richmond and Geelong who both appear to also be making up numbers.

We're then royally smacked to shizen by West Coast in a prelim.

It's now June 2016. After losing round 1 by 80 points to the dogs, we've regrouped and got ourselves up to 10th and within a game of the top 8.

Brad's agent calls - he's had a 3 year offer from Gold Coast and wants to know where he stands for 2017+.

I take it you'd re-sign him on the spot?

you've just shown that you know **** all. Open you eyes and your mind and stop playing the fool.

I'm starting to think you're 10 years old.
Please go on??
Explain to me the last time a coach got a senior AFL gig from coaching straight from the wonderful SANFL.

This is a pretty basic concept which some fail to understand. Coaches are employed to win premierships. Scott has had 5 years, and hasn't come close.
Yeah a prelim is eons away.
We all sat down in the days prior to the prelim and preregistered for our GF seats, only 4 teams get to do that...

Sorry mate but if we win our first final we would be playing one of the top 4 losers from week one in week 2, so we would be playing probably Sydney in Sydney, West Coast in Perth or Freo in Perth... If we were to win one of those finals I think they would sign Brad on the spot.

Fair enough..... Gee u are testy since de-modding.
Just saying that stability is key to a club recruiting stars.
I just have little patience for mindless support of opinions, regardless of which way they fall.

We have significant problems and a number of posters simply fail to recognise this. Others recognising it but just shout sack Scotts, which doesn't necessarily solve the issues.

Of course this is only an opinion also, but I have repeatedly tried to provide context throughout, which is generally sorely lacking from many 'arguments' put forward on both sides of the fence.

Is it just me that rates Bomber Thompson as a great candidate for the job, assuming the boys club at north finally admit that we are not progressing well enough over brads term, and that if we wait too long, we will be forced into a mini-rebuild of sorts in a few years to come *assuming that the argument of 'our underdeveloped youth' is accurate* which i personally don't subscribe to.

Well aren't we all blessed that we have you to bring both intelligence and context to the discussion.

They were great, but don't let that fool you.

We have played 18 games since then and have reverted to form for the most part.

The expectation this year should have been to develop consistency and let the results take care of themselves. In this we have failed miserably.

You are not setting the bar high enough.

The finals felt great.

That feeling had disappeared when we rocked up round one not mentally where we should be.

Throughout this season it has been compounded by again not taking the opportunites that are before us and periodically allowing shit sides to walk all over us.

How many catastrophic moments does it take to actually do something long lasting?
Hawthorn - 13 13 (took us 100 years to lose by 100 to this mob but we did it)
Collingwood 117 ( a record loss)
West Coast finals humiliation
Brisbane in Brisbane (90 point turn around)
Gold Coast, We lost to the bottom side after those glorious finals you keep banging on about.

As we speak right now there are two ways Scott can potentially be remembered,

1) he gets his and our shit together, we play to our ability consistently and we win a flag

2) we don't win a flag he goes down as the Coach of the NMFC that was given more than any coach before him and he turned that in to holding the record of the biggest losses against more opposition than any other coach in our history.

Well good for you for selectively quoting. The question was would Scott get a job over Simmo. It didn't say would he get the job at North over Simmo. So firstly Simmo's history at North wouldn't mean shit. Secondly Simmo is not available, and we would not go close to be being able to compete with West Coast in $$$ terms to pry him away. My question to you is this.... If North win 3 finals and lose the GF this year, and Simmo called up Funky Carl Dilena and told him he wanted to coach us next year, would you sack Scott and bring him in??
Fine, take out the North history. Scott and Simpson are two men with no ties to North.

Now take North of the last 6 years, with all the positives & negatives, all the development failures and the great games in finals and all the crushing, shearing disappointment of random games in Round 17 and losing on the Gold Coast and label it Club A. Scott coached them for 6 years and is responsible for all their positives & negatives. Now he is a free agent.

Take West Coast of the last three years, with their almost-bottoming out and their crushing defeats, then their revival under Simpson and their wonderful home record and their player development triumphs and their great midfield, their terrifying forward line and their top 2 record with their best key defender missing and their still-somewhat-suspect away record. Simpson coached them for 2 years of the 3, and now he is a free agent.

If you were the CEO of a football club, with a blank cheque and free reign to pick whatever coach you wanted free of any existing loyalties or foibles, which would you take?

19.22 (136) to 9.11 (65). Another embarrassing finals loss.

I'm prepared to give him to the end of the year. But for curiosity sake, what will your opinion be if we finish the year on the end of a finals smacking?

Because when you found it necessary to "****s sake" me I was asking a legitimate question.

He's an assitant at Sydney. You don't even know who's out there as a possible replacement but you rule every possible canditate out.

Fruck, if you were CEO of Carlton or Adelaide you'd be advising the board to pack up and hand back the club license to the AFL as there's no coaching canditates out there worthy of an interview.

It was a bad question that reeked of short-termism.

We are at a point now in our teams development where the questions regarding long term requirements over short term success are approaching fast. Blind Freddy can see this. From your question you imply that keeping Scott on provides the stability required to attract players like Trealor. I would say that projected future performance and chance for success would be a greater driver and that is not necessarily determined by who is in charge. We may soon be in a position where we need to cut dead wood for the health of the team and I firmly believe that there should be no pressure to keep people on purely because of external perceptions.

It was a bad question?? Why? I am being genuine. If a big name young player wanted to know about the stability of our football department it would not be a surprise. I wasn't saying sign him because of it, I was just putting it out there that if we miss on FA's this year that it could be a factor. Should I forward any thoughts I have to you first to make sure they are up to standard before putting green to the general public??
