at $1M a year which my family and I are forking out for ….
I want more than “dark clouds & silver linings “ out of him in a presser .

To address an idiotic thread seriously for a moment.

Who do those wanting to arse Clarkson (what the **** honestly) propose to replace him????

Yze didn't want to coach us.
Voss didn't want to coach us.

Do you blame them? Some very talented kids, a few blow-ins from other clubs and basically nobody in the sweet spot of their career that is any good. What a proposition! That Clarkson, a proven entity and revered football mind, went anywhere near the job is nothing short of a ****ing miracle. Be honest with yourself, WHO could make this list work in its current state?

So without naming names how many on the field just last yesterday do you see in the side in season 2026?
No right or wrong answer to this of course.
From yesterday 16 or so.

But they will be very different with an additional 50 or so games each.

Players I reckon will likely still be at it then

Dawson 9
Sheezel 27
McKercher 4
Fisher 111
LDU 89
Scott 82
Zurhaar 103
Powell 49
Curtis 40
Larkey 98
Comben 10
Xerri 37
Wardlaw 12
Simpkin 137
Duursma 4
Ford 26

This core has a chunk of talent but very few KPP.

There are others you’d hope that would be playing that aren’t currently.

The issue right is this profile looks a lot better when you add another 50 games to each player but you cannot make time go faster and we’re gonna continue to suck for a while yet.

It should be a signal of how far away we are mentally from top teams.

We played yesterday like a team that knew it would get soundly beaten.

Brisbane played like a team that knew it would just completely run all over us at will.

I hope, and that is all it is, that the start of the year has not cooked the players confidence the way it has supporter’s because I honestly believe the team has the personnel to win games of footy this year against teams who are relative to us. The problem is we’ve only played one (we played our best football this year) and they too torched us because their form is hot.

Right now this place is a cesspit of negativity where things are bad and perspective that it’ll get better are derided.

People post things that are almost entirely devoid of any critical thinking. Let’s play out the OP.

Clarkson is in year 2.

We’re paying him what $1m a year?

We sack him Monday.

That’s $3.5m(at least) gone that we have to pay out.

We have to put in an interim coach. Who that is I am unsure. Probably Patch.

At the end of the year we need to pay out other assistants who Clarko brought in.

We’d lose Viney.

So our out goings for this would be somewhere in the vicinity of what $5m (probably more)this year and coming out of the soft cap next. Where this money is coming from who knows?

We’d need to find a new coach (because people are really going to want to take that job on).

We’d need to find a new head of the Footy department.

We’d need a bunch of new assistants.

Any player who was half thinking about leaving would likely be gone.

if this course of action didn’t destroy the football club (and honestly it probably would) it would set us back probably another 5 years. We’d have no ability to bring in any sort of experienced coach having just burnt the most successful experienced one in the league.

And people are posting that they want this to happen. Or at least people are posting s**t without thinking what move 1 leads to. It’s emotional and completely out of touch with any reality.

It may feel currently that everything will never get better. Pour some concrete on your wheeties this is a long bumpy road and we are barely pointing in the right direction.
Definitely play out Clarko’s five years would be suicide to sack him earlier.

But I do hope to see the phone smashing Clarko soon. He really needs to drive a stake up all the players arses cause some of the efforts or lack of is seriously sickening.

Im scared that all Clarko’s off field problems has sapped his will for the job at hand.

Even if you conceded that Clarkson is now a bottom-four coach in terms of his tactics and team selection, which I disagree with, I'd still argue that he is the man for the job based on our need for continuity and how much he has commanded the respect of the playing group.

What gets missed is that due to the underperformance of Shaw and Noble, what should have been a gradual descent to the bottom, was instead a cataclysmic freefall. 2023 and 2024 should have been our bottom-out years when you look back at the talent on our list, but instead, Clarkson has inherited pressure to turn things around.

2019
Wins: 10
End of Season Departures: Sam Wright and Scott Thompson.

2020
Wins: 3
End of Season Departures: Shaun Higgins, Ben Brown, Majak Daw, Ben Jacobs, Jamie MacMillan, Jasper Pittard, Marley Williams, and Mason Wood.

2021
Wins: 4
End of Season Departures: Robbie Tarrant, Taylor Garner, Shaun Atley, and Trent Dumont.

2022
Wins: 2
End of Season Departures: Jed Anderson, Josh Walker, and Jared Polec.

2023
Wins: 3
End of Season Departures: Tarryn Thomas, Todd Goldstein, Ben McKay, Jack Ziebell, Ben Cunnington, Aaron Hall, and Kayne Turner.

That's 24 names ranging from decent footballers to club legends that were turned over in five years. From a list-build perspective, we've been able to bring in a lot of decent young talent over that stretch, but that's ultimately too much talent to cover, especially when the most talented players that we've been able to add during this stretch are still teenagers.

The issue is that 2020 was clearly an underperformance brought on by a lack of support given to Shaw, and his mental breakdown in the bubble. 2021, with Cunnington, Goldstein, Tarrant, Thomas, Hall, Ziebell etc still playing their best football was also an underperformance brought on by poor coaching. For as much damage as Brad Scott did to our club, I don't doubt he'd have delivered another 5 to 15 wins over that 2020 to 2022 stretch. Had that happened, I think there'd be a lot more patience for the approach Clarkson is taking.

Sadly, we can't turn back time, but we do need to acknowledge that 2024 is basically the ground zero point for our rebuild. We're due to lose a player or three to FA and trades, but for the most part, we won't have a meaningful amount of player losses for a decent stretch of five to seven years. That's the period where as we see players like Wardlaw, Sheezel, Duursma, and McKercher mature, recruit some more talent, and develop with continuity, we'll see us rise up the ladder.

No one can replace him, its way too premature to call for his head!

I think a lot of us are tired of being shit and probably got caught up with the hype of Clarko being at the club. We have to give him some time. IMO we are going to be shit all year and be on the bottom for the 5th year in a row, tbh nothing to get excited about. I haven't seen much improvement apart from one quarter or half of north ball. Some of our players have been on the list for long enough to take the next step but won't. We are a ****ing mess of a club and all we hear are excuses for the past 10+ years when surely most of us were happy to slowly climb up out of the bottom 4

Its sapped the enjoyment out of the game for me, plus the insufferable state of the overall game, the hopeless cheating umpires, the MRO etc is just depleting the passion out of the game. Used to watch nearly every game and now I watch only north games and can barely do that nowadays haha

At a presser Clarko gives the media some of what they want to hear but keeps what he really thinks to himself for the players...
Incorrect. The presser is also meant to be for us supporters & members especially who fork out their hard earned for him to give us some proper explanation & hope for next week & beyond.

We are not sacking Clarko that’s asinine. But I would be keen to know who he reports too and who keeps him and more importantly the whole club accountable. I doubt it’s Sonja or Jen. I am assuming it’s Viney. Right now I don’t think the club has many people in administration roles that are hell bent on becoming successful on field. They are just hoping and expecting but like the players they are not holding anything or anyone accountable. Why would they they when don’t even contest the positions themselves they just pass them on to mates. The only time we see them ask people to go above and beyond is when it’s in relation to members and asking us for more.

We don't have angry Clarko any more. We have soft, cuddly Clarko who may have very well had all energy sucked out of him by the racism investigation. Who knows. His jovial behaviour and even holding the ball shenanigans in the boundary vs Freo last year are just something he never did under Hawthorn when they were challenging.

A massive, massive red flag to me was letting the players pick the captains / leadership group and then we ended up with McDonald and Simpkin and supported by Corr. What that says about Clarko and indeed the playong group says a lot.

I get the sense with the current climate of having to handle players differently than older eras, he is saving his angry side for special occasions and doesn't want to over use it until we get the sufficient number of games into the kids.

I remember Carey saying something similar about Denis. He saved the real serves and didn't over use them lest they lost their effect.

I certainly hope he is letting the likes of McDonald and Corr know though seeing as they are older and should be better

And if he did that half the posters on here that already want him gone would say his delusional for saying or giving us hope. Clarko is the answer i have NO DOUBT what so ever. Bing on2026 final series can't wait but prepared to be patient.

I'm not OK with being perpetually shyte. And having said shyte seeping through the joint to almost become its defining feature. I'm not OK with being totally irrelevant to the rest of the competition. Being a laughing stock. I'm not OK with having my passion and interest slowly being stripped away and becoming numb to the ineptitude we put on the park week after week, season after season.

What I am OK with is at least being the side that doesn't tank. Maintaining some drop of integrity amidst an ocean of abject failure. I'm also OK with who we drafted with our early picks last

Mmmmmm. Probably not quite on the same page as you on that one MM (which is rare).

Don't get me wrong, I really like McKercher and early signs are he'll be a player. But he's only 180cm. Would H Reid have been the better option? For me its Yes - a (187cm) big bodied mid - someone to help LDU after losing Thomas. Our midfield is getting bashed up.

I get it though, no point whingeing about it, it's done.

Although I personally wouldn't have lost any sleep if we orchestrated a loss vs GC in round 24 last year. The possible long term gains were real.

The notion that winning round 24 in 2023 would hold us in good stead moving in to 2024..... well the proof is in the pudding.. it's a fallacy. In fact, it seems it gave the guys a false sense of how well they were travelling if you ask me. Posters on here basking in the glory of that round 24 win had me scratching my head. It was against a team who's players were waxing their surfboards at half time.

Now back to watching games from the '90's to lift the spirits. Gee we had some talent back then.

I am of the belief that we were told in no uncertain terms that if we lost we’d get nothing in terms of assistance.

The AFL would gag on their own organ to fine us for tanking.

I've got 16 as the core of our 2026 side (presuming no one jumps off the sinking ship). Still leaves a big hole to fill with1/3 of the side to be upgraded.

I can't believe this thread exists.

Even if we'd hired Warwick Capper to be our head coach he'd at least deserve a few uninterrupted seasons to see if he's got what it takes.

Four games into season #2 of one of the great coaches of our time and the call is out to remove him? Really???

You're entitled to your opinion but I'm glad you're not a decision maker at NMFC.

The only thing missing is 'Clarksons' for this OP to be complete 100% comedy gold and an obvious p1sstake.

Hey Ross you and your family ain’t forking over a million a year…

Lordy. No.

I’m all in with him for the next 3 years. If anyone can dig us out it’s this dude.

I just want to see some mongrel, some reward for effort and some punishing of those who don’t uphold the team standards (whatever they are, maybe we need to first set some).

Putting Zurhaar’s value in his own court was a nice start. Next would be dropping him on current form and leaving someone like Greenwood in.

I like the idea of Clarkson more than what I’ve actually seen from him so far. There’s time though. I hoping he’s playing a long game that will make doubting Thomases like me look like idiots in the next few years 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
