Anyone who watched Clarkson's time at Hawthorn should know that he plays the media game. What he says in a press conference and what he says to the team behind closed doors are most likely totally different things. So judging his mindset based off what he says in a press conference seems a little odd. He knows what he's doing.
I really hope so, for the footy club, the players, himself, his family and us.

I have to say that today, I actively removed Myself from watching the game as our insipid performances are affecting mood and it's not fair on the family that I turn into a campaigner for a half a day.

I had written a post with similar sentiments straight after the pre-game interview but deleted it. I felt, for the first time, genuine concern for Clarko's mental health. In some of his stuff this year, it's like listening to the muddled uncle or old bloke in the corner of your local footy club.

The little jokes and a laugh feel like a coping mechanism. I've used them Myself in times of stress. Not just the last 24hrs with the sad news, but his tenure post racism saga has seen him with a whole lot less mojo.

Everyone evolves and I am not sure killer Clarko is still around. There is a more spiritual, philosophical Clarko going about these days.

The acceptance of losing across the club appears set in stone and it sucks. We're at risk of damaging/losing another whole generation of talent.

Who knows, internally everything might look much different if you're closer to it. [emoji2375]

Ummm there is no need to be angry, huff and puff as that would do nothing anyways.

It's philosophical because we have seen all this before, namely his own hawthorn side as well as new expansion side.

The way we gutted the list, we need to treat it as if we are an expansion team as opposed to traditional bottoming up.

Like Ted Lasso, I truly believe 'wins' aren't Clarkson's #1 priority this year, as crazy as that sounds.

I believe he wants to build up our young players fitness, skills, and AFL-physiques so that they have a solid foundation to build upon for the future. It's what he did at Hawthorn and look how that worked out.

Given that, then of course he's not going to be giving them sprays when we're losing games. He'd be setting realistic and attainable KPIs he asks the players to strive for each week, depending on their role. And part of his role as Head Coach is to act as a type of 'father figure' during such a year and protect them from the hordes massing at the gates as the losses pile up.

His approach in the media is bearing this out, imho.

I agree, he knows what he is doing and he knows what needs to be done. He also has a good idea where the players are at.

Our no.1 priority this year is to have the spine setup, particuarly the backline with Comben and Bignoa introduced as key back.

Playing Hawthorn has potentially come at the right time for us and Clarko.

We should all be expecting a 'play like it's our grand final' type of effort this week and that is how Clarko needs to be treating it and he needs to be setting the example on the training track, in media interviews and at the selection table.

If he can't get the team (and himself) up for this match - the fire in the belly - then it will be probably be the most negative sign we could have from Clarko this year.

We should have every expectation that we can beat Hawthorn - they are as young and inexperienced as us with a number of key injuries.

Should be an interesting 7 days coming up.

I don't think an honorable closs loss is going to be acceptable. We saw plenty of those last year. Clarko needs to absolutely rip the players apart if they serve up the same effort vs Hawthorn. This game is huge, as strange as it is to say. Lose it, and people start thinking of 0-23.

Contrast his press conferences with Mitchell who was breathing fire.

How long are we going to put up with this whole “yeah, look •scratches back of neck• lucky their big forward didn’t play (laughs), we know where we’re at as a footy club” and accepting being so pathetic?

He basically concedes matches before we even play. It’s pathetic.

Again:

Hawthorn 0-5
North Melbourne 0-5

We just accept it though. Good old cabbage water Kangas. We’re about as believable (and detestable) as Grandpa Joe and his faking being in bed too. It’s like - we all know you can get up and do better but you’re choosing not to.

Yes - and that blasé attitude from Clarko needs to stop this week.

He needs to make it clear that this week there are no excuses for a poor performance and nothing is off the table.

And we should expect to see some glimpses of the tactical genius that Clarko possessed at Hawthorn.

Let's see one or two smart moves from Clarko that we (and Mitchell) didn't see coming - and then when Mitchell reacts to the moves - have follow up moves from Clarko that shows he has thought about the opposition and how we can beat them from a number of directions.

I know this sounds like what he should be doing every week - but this week we as supporters and members actually want to see it.

Surely this is not to much to ask for - that he coaches to win?

Hey is there a possible bet on sportsbet for us to actually go 0-23? I can see this really happening… our young list of wardlaw , Sheezel McKercher, Duursma all with limited preseasons feeling fatigue towards the 2nd half of the season carrying all Our older experienced potato’s 🥔 who are ducking useless…
Absolute possibility .

So what card does Mitchell play if we torch them next week?

Yep pretty much this. Finished up 10 minutes into 3/4 and went out in the glorious autumn sun for a bike ride to avoid continuing watching the dismal 70 minutes I had just watched

Actually i probably should have turned it off earlier when they showed the behind the Goals angle of Corr finger pointing at Biggie in the goal square.
