I don't think it's always about money. Milburn signed way before finals this year and I think it was obvious all along that he would. I think if Bartel had a real love of the club he would have signed weeks ago. I really don't know whether he'll stay or not, just have to wait (and wait, and wait in this case) and see.

I kind of hope he goes and we get a good deal for him, like with Colbert. Team spirit and camraderie, the willingness to give ones all for the team is clearly lacking with this individual. Give me aplayer with a passion for the club, like Chapman. Even if he signs, we'll just be repeating this exercise inanother two years

Well said, Jim Boy.

No player is bigger than the club.

Unless that player's surname name starts with 'A' and end with 'blett' ....

... for the 37 people who can't comprehend what I'm saying - it spells ABLETT!!!

God Gaz is a star, I'm pretty sure he'll never pressure us into giving mo' money, thankgod for the Abletts ... except Luke.

What a painful process this has become. I still hope he signs, but his estimation has come down a little in my eyes. I know it's all very well to get the best out of things financially, but it has certainly been a strain on the club and the supporters. Would be terrible to lose him to the draft though - what a waste that would be.

See, I don't know about that - I think Jimmy's situation isn't that common.

I remember Chris Grant getting a massive offer to join Port when they first started - obviously a lot more than the Dogs could afford. I read an article saying that a kid had sent 20c in an envelope to him at Footscray saying "this is to help Chris stay" and he was so touched by it he realised he couldn't leave. And he hasn't.

Similarly, Luke Ball rejected offers from other clubs to stay with St. Kilda - for, you would assume, loyalty and a shot at a premiership.

If you believe the media, Yze and Luke Power both rejected huge offers elsewhere to stay with their clubs.

I can understand to some extent the media speculation to bump up a player's price when they re-sign, but the Bartel thing has gone on too long. That said, I am very confident he'll accept the final Cats offer for the reasons listed.
And for every Chris Grant, Luke Ball, Yze & Power there's a Nick Stevens, Josh Carr, Jeff White (shall I go on)...

There is no loyality in footy any more - and the way certain clubs treat certain players when they reach the twilight of their careers, I think they've got a hyde to expect it from players...

Just hope that if he does decide to move on, he doesn't do a Nick Stevens on U and U actually get something reasonable in return...
