May as well have forfeited the season then if we can't be competitive without those guys, two of which we delisted.
We also gained Greenwood (better than Atley and Dumont), Aiden Corr (out for vast majority of 2021), JHF, and LDU went to another level this year. Paul Curtis is an improvement on any small forward we had.

Our main problem is blokes regressing, blokes not coming on as predicted, and a shite game plan. Our squad isn't as bad as these performances. It ain't a good squad for sure, but it's not THIS bad.

hard evidence, if it was needed and not obvious to anyone watching, of both the turgid shambles that is our ball movement and our truly reprehensible forward structure

edit: also worth noting that we're ranked 11th in clearances, which is actually an improvement on last year in both ranking and number - not sure Cunners would be making up 40+ points every week tbh
We are generally competitive in the midfield for the majority of games.

The absolute disgrace that is our defensive mechanism, our offensive ball movement and overall structure is what kills us every damn time.

The ‘no coach will fix it’ outlook is rubbish IMO.

You could play the AFL team of the century in this structure, and they’d look like the Quambatook 3rds.

IMO in time, Massimo will prove himself to be in the top 20 of this calendar year's draft crop. I'm biased as he's from my area so I've seen a fair bit of him.

Having said that, I hope Dawson makes it and I'm disappointed that people are potting him for simply being selected.

Just to be clear, I am not potting Dawson, but it was clear that transition from the back half was our biggest issue and we didn’t address it with a player who fits the bill extremely well and was available and has shown an aptitude for senior football. To me it showed a lack of understanding of where we are and that falls on the coach more so than usual due to the unique recruiting situation.

Sorry mate wasn't referring to you. Was referring to people going to Kal's player thread to complain about his selection.

Just an update on this;

Sentiment has shifted, but it seems not enough; they're sticking to their guns and letting the Walsh review conclude at a minimum for the time being, apparently.

(I have no intel/knowledge of how long the Walsh review is expected to take.)
Heath seems confused. :stern look

If and when Noble goes, it will mean sweet f*** all if Amarfio and Rawlings remain.

Brady is the one I could stomach staying (if we bring in an experienced GM for him report to), but in reality all three should really be going.

What if a highly regarded football administrator with full access to the club and staff looked at the performances of all of these people and decided that some of the ones you want fired are not on his hit list? Would you consider your outsider opinion to be more valid than Geoff Walsh?

He’s a dead man walking, everyone knows it - especially Noble. These things become cancers. Better to just rip the Band-Aid off now and have a fresh start, rather than allow bitterness and resentment to gain a foothold in stupid comments and actions with longer-term impacts, eg “JHF might have to play VFL.” The sooner we get the dead man walking out the less damage he can cause.

May as well have forfeited the season then if we can't be even remotely competitive without those guys, two of which we delisted.
It was only with those guys in the side that we were competitive. Two of them are Syd Barker winners, another one was nicknamed "the janitor" by his teammates cos he was always cleaning up their mess.

Surely you've noticed how small we look in comparison to our opponents and how easily we get pushed off the ball, have tackles broken or get blocked out of contests.

Well as mentioned in Robbos article - Walsh is reviewing the football department, this would appear to exclude Amarfio…

If Walsh thinks Rawlings is the right person to lead our list management, in what is a critical time to get list decisions right, then I will accept it, but with three of his team leaving simultaneously this year, I’ll be surprised…

Dumont would have been better than Greenwood. Straight up improvement, he could run (both ways) and spread and defend. Was limited sure but would have been better value than Greenwood in this years midfield.

Atley was durable on the back flank and better than his reputation here. Also better than Greenwood imo. At least in terms of what he offers. Atley Hall and Ziebell last year were good on the backline. Unfortunately they were all old. But Ats was probably a better keep than Ziebell and would have played more footy than Hall this year.

Those two on their own would have made a difference to our scores. We would lose by a few goals less.

BTW I dunno if this year's Tarrant would be helpful. It was him last year that made the difference. Haven't seen every Richmond game this year but the one's I have seen he isn't Taz of a few years ago.

Too many young bodies and a shitful situation between the back of the centre square and the area in front of the goalsquare.

Its not just the gameplan its the straight up lack of movement. And that's down to players not reacting to the play and thinking one or two steps ahead of where the ball is at any one time. Maybe cos they don't know the game plan instinctively ... but its nbot that ****en hard to run to space or run to create space.

I'm pretty over this but I dunno if changing the coach will fix anything. But honestly saying JHF should come back thru the VFL was one of the most insane things I've heard from a North coach.

Elaborate pls mate
Called Nobes out for his half time message (going back to controlling the ball) when he should have read the adjustment from Geelong and go more direct in the conditions. Also his post game saying the players should read the adjustments in the game when he couldn't.

Serious question. Has anyone been in a job where you know that your employers think you're not up to it and it's only a matter of time until you're cooked?

Did you just hang on until the inevitable hoping they have missed it? Did you change your approach hoping it would make a difference? We're you so confident you were right and everyone was wrong?

I'm not saying I'm great at my job, I've just never been in that situation.

Noble has nothing to hang his hat on. A review means someone is getting the arse. Results suggest it's you. Why are you hanging on?

If this is is level of understanding on game day, it’s no wonder we’re ****ed seven ways through Sunday.

I disagree re: Dumont and Greenwood. Agree Atley was better than was made out here. I'm saying the net between our gains and losses isn't that huge to explain what we're seeing week in and week out.

Quite frankly, I think the positions they're instructed to man when we're defending a ball in our D50 precludes them from being able to find space to hit up at the ball carrier. The turnovers burn a heap of tickets, and even where it does work it still burns an insane amount of tickets. Oppo clubs know this.
