I actually think Abbott means well to some extent, he's just such a gigantic narcissist with the attendant lack of any ability to self critique that he genuinely doesn't seem to see the irony when he does something like criticise his opponent for negativity.

He can parade his Christianity around while demonising the poor and less fortunate in society, or do volunteer work while billing taxpayers for all his expenses while ranting about welfare, do the bidding of Murdoch and the IPA without any regard to what is genuinely best for society while bemoaning the Union influence on the Labor Party.
His cognitive dissonance is just completely off the chart.

Someone like Dutton though is more like a Mobster or a despot. A pure sociopath who I don't think would care which side of the law he was on provided he was granted power over others and unlimited opportunities for corruption.

That's pretty funny. Abbott won 90 seats because people hated Rudd/Gillard/Shorten thanks to Murdoch brainwashing them. Then Abbott lost like 30 polls in a row and then his party knifed him for being a public reject. Turnbull saved them from losing an election and they knife him for Dutton. The Dutton camp is a 8% christian battler demographic that all have sex with their own livestock in rural qld. Turnbull was the bulk of the liberal vote, all those wealthy lawyers, doctors, investors out there are him. They have too much money and want to be progressive. They're not miserable and hate everything like the Dutton demographic.

They're very different people liberals and conservatives. Liberals get married raise families in affluent suburbs. The Dutton demographic knocks someone up at a country party and has a holiday home in Thailand and a Thai wife 20 years later after inheriting his dads business. Their entire outlook on life is different and at odds. Their only common link is having money.

I've always viewed liberals as high achievers and conservatives as low achievers who have come across fortune/inheritence.
