You reckon? Unless Hamling turns out a lot better than I think he is then we need a stopper on the oppositions best key forward. That's Dawson. Silvagni was a similar player, just not quite as good and more injury prone.

I would have thought he'd be looked at by other clubs though. Brisbane seems like an obvious one.

Unless injured I think moose has that role, or perhaps Collins for the heavier blokes.

Perhaps some good luck in the future. Liked him alot but he always got the timing wrong with injuires/suspension/form.

But I start to wonder how we are going to fill our list again. 13 list changes, got 4 back. A lot to go even when we don't replace Hurley.

The Lyon only plays his favourites mantra has totally gone - I really don't expect Dawson will get a game next year unless injury hits hard.

What basis do you have for this claim? It seems you want this and are reading list changes into that biased agenda, without any games nor strategy being seen of the current list.

Goodbye to another quality person and solid player from our club. I thought he was worth another year but I guess we need to get games into the younger guys.

Word association for me when anyone mentions "Silvagni" is recalling first hand how he 'dominated' Franklin during the early parts of the QF at Homebush in 2014. But don't mention "Buddy" as I have an unending 'nightmare' of how he tore us a big one later on in that one...

Alex is a popular figure amongst his peers and more broadly given the extra yards he's done for charity as well. Listened to him last night and while this is a setback, he's kicking plenty of goals off the field with his MBA and business interests, so all the best to him.

Thank you, SCOS. Brave as brave can be, and always gave it 110% whether he was playing AFL or WAFL level. Head down and bum up even if he was fighting an uphill battle with all his injuries. Easy to drop his bundle given the frustration of being injured when a spot was opening up, but he just kept plugging on.

All the best for life after Freo!

Yeah a bit of further clarification would have been better. Just saying that a lot of the "old" perceived favourites are now gone and if they were such favourites they would have been kept on the list. The "biggest" Lyon favourite was always seen to be Dawson and I cant see Lyon giving him a game ahead of Hamlin, Pearce, Johnson or Collins, he is Peel bound unless injuries happen.

Will there be new perceived favourites? of course, because there will always be players that we as the public cant see their worth, these players are usually playing a role or sacrificing their game to allow our better players to perform at their best. Does not mean myself and others will not prefer someone different in the team.

As for having a "biased agenda" settle down, I don't care enough to have a biased agenda, it is just my observation sheez

Always rated Silvagni and think he is still very definately AFL level. Rarely beaten 1 on 1 except on much taller players but had horrible timing with injury. Part of his injury issues were caused by 100% putting his body on the line for the team like few others. He is well settled in Perth now and it is possible he may not seek opportunities elsewhere but is certainly capable. Good luck Silva.

This bloke was way more than a 56 game player. He was injured and copped suspensions a little bit but he was never given any confidence by Harvey or Ross - he was the back up, the bridesmaid, and he was a much better footballer than that.

I always remember him coming into the side after eight games out and managing to keep Buddy to one goal. He could keep most key forwards honest. A very underrated player. He should have clocked up 100 games for us

Other than Michael Johnson, and perhaps Michael Apeness, we are clearly not going to carry any injury prone players on the list next year.

It's weird. I thought he'd played a lot more games than that but turns out I was dead wrong. You are 100% correct though, definitely better than a 50 odd game player.
