I’m thinking a review that starts with one or two word assessment and then some rationale/detail.

Ah Chee - disappointing- role player at Lions and spoken of by some like we were getting another Rankine. Injury has robbed us of finding out though, hopefully we’re over that.

Max - extremely disappointing - gone backwards after looking like being so much more. Don’t think his spot is in doubt, but wouldn’t think twice if he missed due to gastro.

McAndrew - a revelation - but signs of fatigue starting to show. Bye at a good time, but him less rucking last 2-3 weeks surely wouldn’t have killed Murray.

Berry - extremely solid - not going to say breakout like Rachele looked in the middle, but he’s been really good. Took him a while to start accumulating midfielder numbers, but he seems to be there now.

Milera - a standout - having an exceptional year. But I reckon him generating the number of disposals points to structural/strategy problems. I feel that he gets 5-8 too many each week and Laird about 20 too many.

Dawson - toughest of years - but he’s stood up unbelievably really. Just keeps going and going and getting the job done.

Cook - has arrived. In our best handful so far this year, has a desire for the contest, high impact possession. Great kick, great decision maker

Thilthorpe - way off. Doesn’t look right.

Peatling - continues to disappoint. Can’t see him ever being the A grade mid we need. No weapons. Another we need to move past.

On peatling I think he can be a great mid and we’ve seen it. Was it the bulldogs or freo game where he had an unbelievable half or qtr.
Needs to do more, but he can do it.

Worrell needs his wingman in Keane back. Poor year.

Thilthorpe clearly isn't right and hasn't been all year. That back problem is causing serious issues. He's not as mobile, not as aggressive, and appears to have no confidence. He's a liability in his current state. Better for him and the team to rest him until he's genuinely right. Bring back Tex after the bye or just go smaller up forward.

Very well said.

Max is concerning, is it a player who's development has stalled, is it coaching or is it a bit of both perhaps ?? Our backline currently is full of guys who cant kick.

Given the dude is such a gun, we're nuts playing him as a shell of the player he should be, if it is further preventing him from getting better.

Does he need rest? If he does, then get him right for end of the year?

FFS

They said on the broadcast that we're putting out that its going to need to wait till the off season to fix. Wonder if that means surgery.

And ban him from playing any cricket during the off season - he has struggled from the start of the season and it is no coincidence.

A bunch of our best players suffered back / hamstring injuries. We really think they all did it conveniently away from the club?

Back surgery for a bloke in his mid 20s is not good.

But if he needs it, do it now.

Season is essentially a write off anyway

The point is the element of risk with injury. Of course nobody wants to get injured. You're a smart man I am sure you know the risk of injury.

Gets very expensive delisting contracted players regards salary cap.

Whatever it needs, surgery or rest or rehab or whatever, just bite the bullet and get on with it. It's not doing him or the team any good playing him in his current state. He's giving us nothing while not improving his back and potentially making it worse.

If he was still having an impact on the game then I could maybe understand continuing to push through. But right now the only ones benefiting from this situation are our opposition.

He did have an impact when he went on ball late, we took too long to make the call IMO. Whether thats because we are so rigidly sticking to our structures or whether we are trying to protect him, who knows.

If its the latter then he shouldnt be there, if its the former then its another nail in the Nicks coffin.
