hey guys
just wondering what your opinion of Shannon Byrnes is?????
see him play a bit but only a couple of senior games.
he looks really classy for a small guy with good skills.
do you think he'll break into your team next year?
if not we'll have him..... ( :D )

He has a few critics, but I reckon he has shown plenty of promise in his first real season of football to prove his worth. I think the criticism comes as a result of his little unforced errors, causing frustration, but he is only young and will only improve.

Seems to run a little too fast for his own good and consequently has a few ball handling issues, but when relaxed (it will come with experience) he will prove to be a valuable asset. Has a lovely kick and is a little livewire who has good a fairly exciting career ahead.

needs to improve his goal kicking. ffs.
Agreed! I thoguht for ages he was a great kick for goal though because of his game against Sydney in 2004. It was late in the season and we were up or down by a point in the last quarter. It was one of his first few games and he marked outside 50 and kicked a long set shot goal. Great composure from a young first year player. Especially as when he marked it he looked around then walked back with confidence and drilled it.

It was his first game. It was a huge kick, 45-50m into a strong wind.

He is a great kick, just gets the yips a little in front of goal when within the 'gimmie' range.

Agreed. Him and Gazza had a few shockers. Byrnes seemed to have lots of snap shots from the pocket that went a mile up in the air then across the face.

Apart from that, I think he went alright this year. He tired by the end of the season, and lost a little zip, but early in the year he was a live wire, tackling and harassing players. The concern over Byrnes will always be his size - is he big enough to play AFL? He'll need to use what he has (pace and enthusiasm) extremely well to carve out a long career.

Needs to do a helluva lot more with the footy. He is a small, lightframed quick player, which means his upsides are minimal. He never hurts the opposition when he gets the turnover and doesn't run enough when he has the ball.

Hopefully he'll improve, but i'm not sold on him.

Needs to regain the confidence he had early in the season, the game against the Eagles he took on everyone and was easily BOG. Both him and Tenace need to steady before they kick after a long run, but both are good kicks when relaxed, so I think it's just an experience thing.

He'll be right.
