I believe the best part of ammo footy is the quality of the grounds that are part of the schools... When we played werribee this year my opponent couldn't believe the condition of the new oeg oval

Council maintained ovals don't even come close

Nothing wrong with Ormonds ground and thats a council ground, obviously you don't get around .

Wellers ground was a disgrace, running onto the ground into a mud heap so players either had to jump the fence or walk round was a joke! Soldiers is a good ground and that's council owned. Pitty they won't seal the car park! Just because your a districts side doesn't mean your going to have a poor ground.
Good luck the the bees IF they get promoted to B. They have to make it first!! And to Kirk's credit he knows how to keep his players that get offered coin each year. A good example is Az Taylor & Cam Lee, those guys stay every year for the footy not for the money. Hopefully some of the new recruits from this year that might get poached do the same

There is also a compounding issue in some cases where, once one player heads off to the local district league, they inadvertently end up as a recruiter of the mates they made. It can snowball sometimes.

That's what happened with Werribee's closest neighbour Old Westbourne. D2 finals last year, mass exodus over summer, finished bottom this season and D3 next year. Very disappointing all round.

KB: I had the semi in 2007 (I think it was against Old Camberwell?) in a strong wind when your boys who were raging favourites fell over. Had they won and gone into the GF, do you think they would have made the jump to B successfully?

Over the post. I have heard that the players that were retained want out down there too. Is mass exedous on the cards again? I hope not, the club was headed in the right direction, hopefully you don't have to start again

Who knows tt, bocce you always have the inside word, is Trent lee making a come back next year?
Likes the cash unlike his brother so don't reckon we'll see him again. I know the club is looking after Cam and Matty Dean in getting them to Ireland so just maybe Trent sees that its not always about money. We wait in hope.

In the form of fundraising. No under the table payments.

Just on those two players, from when they first came to Werribee to where they are now, they have developed their games and put in the effort. They have been constantly picked in the rep games over the years, and the higher Werribee get, the better it is for guys like Matty and Cam.

Well done guys.

if he doesnt come back it isnt a loss for the club because he has been gone for 3 years now. when he left there wasnt a hole in the team for the position that he was in either, the club take losing players very well.
good to see as well that 2 handy players who have stayed at the same club from juniors to seniors. i'm sure this is a regular occurrance at most clubs though. how many rep games have both blokes played now?

Seriously looking forward to tomorrow at Soldiers - can Ajax bounce back from getting nailed by Rupo at Sunbury? Not surprisingly, I'm thinking not.

Werribee to confirm their premiership credentials by 46 points
Mazenod with their key forwards firing by 32 points
OC on that little ground with the lovely surroundings by 38 points
Ormond in an upset over the disappointing OEG by 11 points
Rupo to cane Monash by 57 points

Would see Monash slip to 9th with a game to go......

Werribee by lots in the second semi rehearsal.
Nodders going a little better than roys and will win by a few goals
Oc to keep rolling over the high
Oe need to stand up (please.......) and should be too steady
Monash to dig deep and roll rupo (a draw would not surprise)

Good luck to all, kb please turn on a good day, a monash win and a cold beer!

Given we got relegated in 2008 "B" would have been disastrous. We were never favorites in either final of 2007. Both OLD CAMB and OLD Carey were littered with ex afl and vfl stars. At the time we believed we were invincible with the massive improvement of the playing group and "B" would be a natural progression. This was naive. 2008 was a shocker from an injury point of view and a bit of passion left the playing group, (not a committed pre-season). Unfortunately we continue to have players leave or find something better to do, we have relied on a core of 12-14 players to keep us competitive. It is a major challenge.

In saying that we have a great chance of making finals and this is an amazing situation considering our inconsistency this year. Yesterday it appeared we played like our season. Monash kicked six unanswered goals twice in the game got to 18pts up half way through the last quarter, then we were good enough to turn it around and win. Amazing game.

I agree KB re: 2007.

Old Camberwell and Old Carey (once they registered Nick Holland just before the deadline) were far more experienced and hardened units than the exciting team that blew in from Sunbury to be a genuine 3rd contender that year.

Can't remember who fell into 4th to play you guys in the 1st semi (was it Mazenod?) but they were chicken fodder that year as Rupo were well and truly up and competitive with the top 2 all season.

Interesting how history can repeat itself, with the side that finishes 4th no doubt a massive outsider given the consistency of the top 3 this year.

You going to mosey on down to the Gunfight at Barnyard next Saturday KB? If so, feel free to tell Gareth and Justin to let you come alone! :D

Scribe, playin ducks and drakes my friend!

Camberwell have taken the scalp of the tiges.

The top 4 could all inflict damage on each other.

Quack! ;)

Seriously though, Mazenod will get a sighter against their likely opponent, and I expect they'll be confident of getting the job done against whichever side wins the 'elimination' final at GBO.

You're right, upsets have occurred throughout the year, Rupo knocked off AJAX twice, we snuck one past the Bees, but when you get down to the pointy end, motivation shouldn't be an issue. Somehow I think 2 of those 3 upset results would come down more to the favorites not turning up switched on, as the bolters playing out of their skins.

If the top 2 are up and about and playing near their best, they should deservedly get to Premier B and play off for the flag.

Still, that's a big IF.......

We went out in straight sets after finishing 15/3, but like many of the traditional vafa clubs they got stronger as the year went on. Carey smashed Mazenod in the first semi, we lost to OCamb by 20 odd pts in the second semi. We led Carey late in the 3rd qrt by 35pts. We had our chances after a dominant 25mins of the third qrt. Holland kicked 8 (the umps loved him) and were just as you said a bit too strong for our younger bodies on the day. Love Dolly Parton even though he might have been looking to line my boy up at some stages!!!!!
Werribee are as good as them sides i think, i know it's a big call.
What's really funny though is our reserves beat Mazenod, Mazenod beat Werribee HOW? HOW? HOW? There twos lost again, they must have a heap of injuries or some players cracking it????

No chance of 3rd or 4th progressing past week 2 of finals, doesn't matter who finishes fourth. Nil, zero, not gunna happen.

Entertaining game at the duck pond yesterday. Skills average for both sides but plenty of effort and spirit. Well done to rupo, too steady in the end. Two young sides with reason to be positive about 2012.

My memory of that year was that Rupo were easily the best side of the year, week in, week out. A couple of stars blew in and blew them away. I know rupo went backwards big time in 2008, but it felt unjust that they took the straight sets door after such a good year.
