Monash v Parkdale: Parkdale by plenty
MHSOB v Hampton: High School in an Upset
Rupo v Mazenod: Mazenod
AJAX v Ormond: Ormond - Barnes will ensure Jackas midfield is shut down
Oakleigh v Whitefriars: Oakleigh - easily.

Tips for Round 7
Still more questions than answers:
Who can beat the Rovers?
Are Rupo gone?
Who will emerge from the pack as a genuine finals team?
Has there ever been a more even section?

My tips for tomorrow:

Ashes to win back the John White Shield from the Vultures
Mazenod just out at Rupo
AJAX by a margin over Ormond
Oakleigh too good for Friars
Rovers will touch up the High

Les has spoken.

I think today might just tell us a bit about Rupo.
Winable game and still, despite all of the talk around here, only a game and a bit out of the four.
Four crucial weeks looming and some of the better players to return from injury etc.
The sleeping giant may just be beginning to stir... ;)

The jackas consistently inconsistent season continued today. WLWLWLW

Downed Ormond by 8 goals. Dukes best game for the year. Ormond were pretty much out of it all game. Great all round game by the Jackas.

Robbo, that is a great question. The answer is we are in a better place than we were last week. The truth is that it may change week to week. A gutsy win, with some of the true Rupo spirit. We will take it, the feeling around the club is much better so we have to see what happens. Mazenod live the true spirit of Amateur footy, officials and players enjoyed a beer after the game with Browny adjudged best in the reserves game recieving a rousing ovation from both teams. Today was another great day in Amateur footy.

I shouldn't bag Parkdale after their demolition of us but i will. They find a way to lose. Very surprising after seeing them in Round 1. A proud club with some very strange results considering what we seen.

KB, your absolutely right to bag parkdale! Weak first half cost parkdale and poor kicking in the last cost the game! Think parkdale would've been 2nd if we'd won. Oh well? Very interesting section, dead set up for grabs come finals time.

Hampton Rovers v AJAX is going to be an interesting game next Saturday at Boss James Reserve. Hopefully Fraser Cameron will have the foresight to give it Match of the Round status in his C Section column in the Amateur Footballer. It will tell us a lot of where these two teams are at, as we head into the mid-season break & the 2nd half of the season. Rovers v AJAX games are always good games to watch and I think next Saturday could be no exception.

Nup - Match of the Day will clearly be Whitefriars -v- Rupo. ;)

Thanks for helping me with my foresight Jase.

Hampton v Ajax (1 v 2)
Mazenod v Oakleigh (8 v 4, but only 1 game separates them)
Ormond v Monash (4 v 5, both equal 2nd on points)
Parkdale v MHSOB (7 v 6)
Whitefriars v Rupertswood (10 v 9)

Quite an interesting round is round 8, alot of possies up for grabs. I'm gonna go with the fluctuating form of Ajax and tip Hampton, Oakleigh to nip home over Mazenod, Ormond at home over the baby blues, Parkdale I don't understand so i'll go MHSOB but I won't be suprised if Parkdale win by 100 points. Rupo to go back to back with a win out at Bulleen.
So I guess, my ladder will look a little like this:

1.Hampton 8-0 32points
2.Oakleigh 5-3 20points
3.Ormond 5-3 20points
4.MHSOB 4-3-1 18points
5.Ajax 4-4 16points
6.Monash 4-4 16points
7.Rupertswood 3-4-1 14points
8.Parkdale 3-5 12points
9.Mazenod 3-5 12points
10.Whitefriars 0-8 0points

Hampton have Whitefriars in r.9 so i'm guessing they'll follow suit from Rupo last year and go through the first half of the year undefeated. Although they've set themselves up for a great year, in Ammo footy the return games seem to tell a bigger story than those in the first half of the season. Hoo-roo then.

went down to the high school on saturday, great game of football, hampton did not win as much as the high school gave it away.....about 26 points up with 10 minutes to play, so if hampton are setting the pace id dare say mhs arnt to far away, cant wait to see the result next week when the rovers take on ajax, should be a cracker.

Very ordinary display from Ormond on Saturday. From the word go they never looked interested. Were in it at 1/2 time as we were only down by 16pts but a great 3rd Qtr by the Jackas put that all to rest.

Great spray given to the players by coach Barnes after the match. A few home truths were said. Look out Monash next week!

Off the point, what is with the beer prices after the game at E'wick Park? $4 for a beer - Geezuz! Lucky Elsternwick were playing at home too on the little 'wick, beers in their clubrooms are $2.50. A few were downed in there.

KB,

Our rocky relationship appears on safer ground so I would like to ask a couple of questions.

As a senior group (u19s) included:

Do we pay enough attention or place sufficient value on improving skills?

I'm continually frustrated by the lack of awareness shown by the group and the same could be said for our kicking skills.

These blokes don't watch enough footy or practice their skills these days (they've got better things to do). This leads to poor decision making and a kick and hope mentality. IMO, all levels should have a skills coach for extra help on training nights.

What do you think?

I was reading the "Sunday Age" yesterday. Not a bad read despite Sam Newman's opinion. A feature article on the Vic Metro team coach David Dickson. Recommend you read it. My attention was drawn to the final paragraphs and his opinion on how you deal with a player list. Dickson's point was about fairness and equality when dealing with a playing list. You know, the bottom players should be treated the same as the top players.

This is another area where I think Rupo have fallen below the standard required.

What do you think?

I'm happy to be convinced otherwise.

i saw the game very differently. looked as though hampton were on top most of the game, despite the umpire handing out 6 goals from very suss frees. scores show alot more shots on goals to hampton and it seemed as though it just went right in the last 10 mins. mshob deffinately are a very competitive team very well rounded with no clear weaknesses. should play finals.

it looks like hampton are becoming very full of themselves. they'll be ripe for the picking this week. footyguru and uncle mick both seem to bag the umpires after every game. do they think they should be winning games by more? there arrogance will be the downfall and we're just getting everything right sitting in second now. all the bagging of our club has stopped and we're being aloud to let our footy do the talking. i think we'll see the comp even out a bit more in the next month with hampton to lose a few. they'll struggle on there away trips coming up and i think we should have the measure of them this weekend.
we were surprised by ormond on the weekend. expected a lot more from them. they were constantly second to the ball and decision making was often interesting. they might find themselves in struggletown soon too if they put up more performances like that. they are good bunch of people though. good spirit and supporters weren't an issue. it was a great day for vafa footy.

Robbo, i just did a 10 paragraph reply but i got wiped here is a shorter version.
Skills: you are born with it, look at the aboriginals. Kicking needs hours and hours of practice. Every player at some stage has been shown how to kick, if they are crap it is up to them outside of training to work on it. My opinion. Some specific skill work probably needs to be introduced but my experience is players go back to their old ways as soon as under pressure.

The equalityquestion i will address after my steak.

Equality: No club gets this right. You have your opinion and would prefer you PM examples of your concerns. My opinion is the exact opposite. You know i have two sons playing and IMO are treated no differently to anyone. No coach is perfect, if you look for things you will generally find something. We have built a strong club in a short time because the spirit of intent has been where it has needed to be and there has been a strong junior program that has set precedents in equality throughout football in Victoria.

Gunny $4 is alright if they are as cold as they were at Ormond. Huge disappointment in Parkdales fridge in 2008 after an outstanding performance in 2007. Rupo as recent as last week went to $3.50 on the Pure Blondes, they are suppose to be a boutique beer. $5.30 a schooner at the Olive Tree, very cold though.

$4 is abit steep for a can,DOGFOOD comes in cans.$5 for a carpark for a home and away match

i'm sure that the Ormond people are very happy that their supporters lived up to your standards Goldy. they will sleep soundly.

A Barney spray is a real spray as well, not a dry eye in the house if you are within 15 metres of the flying spittle !! Did the teeth come out Gunn?

The spray was at 3/4 time not after, very quiet after the match a bit of soul searching was done.Expect a few changes this week.

Not much happening on here. It appears as though the district juggernaut is bucking the trend looking at the current top 4. One must imagine this can only be a good thing for amateur footy. Cheap swipes and over-inflated egos seem to be the order of the day. Long overdue was Ajax calming down and putting an end to crying foul about the lack of respect. Seems to be working wonders for their on-field results. Surprised Yosi hasn't been on here to spruik off about his team.
Story of the season has to be Rupertswood. 13-0 last year and almost a cert to spend time thinking about what could've been in D1 next year. They got close to HR last week, but even Hampton seem to be slightly faltering. One suspects they might be about due for their 1st loss.
Should be an interesting match on the weekend. Hampton have taken all before them and at home would be favoured. Danger game as Ajax may just have turned the corner on the back of Saturday's performance.
The Monders have been a little disappointing as has Mazenod. With only 4 points separating 2nd and 8th it's anyone's guess who'll make up the other 3 positions at the halfway mark, but I'll have a stab at it:

Hampton 36(Likely to have all their Sandy listed players this weekend and Friars the week after)
Ormond 24(need a spark and 2 home games might do it)
Ajax 20(should win at least one of the next 2)
Mazenod 20 (home game this week and Monash the week after)
Parkdale 16(will get over MHSOB this week, but won't beat Ormond at the Gunn)
Oakleigh 16 (a chance against Mazenod, but a Rupo upset the week after to make 9th spot interesting later on)
Monash 16 (I suspect they're about to drop off battle out 9th spot with Rupo)
MHSOB 12 (still yet to impress, but will do enough after the half way mark)
R'wood 12(looking gone. Monash may save their skins from the drop)
W'friars 4 (I'm tipping an upset this week, but write them off)

Heard a rumour at the pub that Hamptons sandy players now include Daniel Gribbin and Jake Williams? Any truth to the rumour??
