Not too sure about the 178 point prediction of the Rovers beating Whitefriars, I think it'll be a lot closer than many people think. Because it's about this time of year that the relegation battles among the bottom 3 sides starts to hot up. So, expect to see some upsets along the way.

To be fair Barry, he did say "it's about this time of year that the relegation battles among the bottom 3 sides starts to hot up".

If you smashed your screen over that one, then you only have yourself (and maybe the energy drink in your Cougar) to blame.

Whoever came up with the idea of a promotion/relegation system in VAFA must be a genius, because unlike other comps around Australia, where every game might be blowouts and occasionally 'dead rubbers', in the VAFA it's a different story because, as I've said before, the bottom 3 teams in each section treat each game between now & Round 18 like an elimination final. One loss (and even if it's a bad one), and you edge even closer to D1 for 2009. And teams in the top half of the ladder would be best advised not to take the bottom 3 teams lightly. So watch for interesting results to occur during the 2nd half of the year.

Had they lost last week to Rupo, I would have agreed. Whilst a win this weekend seems highly unlikely, if they were able to go 4-5 on the back nine, than MHSOB would have to win at least 2 to stay up.

Still some chance, albeit remote.

Jase - seriously champ, the promotion/relegation system isn't the brainchild of someone associated with the VAFA, and I think you'll find several suburban comps in Melbourne alone follow the same regimen. I'd venture it's been operating in UK soccer/football for longer than its been operating here.

Merc, $3 for the Rovers is looking handy, does anyone know where the C GRADE finals are to be played, if at Sandy drop the odds that Ajax are at present to "odds on". Saw a quarter or 2 a couple of years ago against St Bedes there and they looked very good on the wide open spaces, I reckon they should consider using EEGunn FOR THE FINALS ....

Are you serious buddy? TBO is a small oval. Much smaller than the home grounds of AJAX, Hampton and many others.

Yes, Cheltenham & Sandringham was used for the D1 finals last year, and they might be used again as finals venues for C Section as well.

Hey Pinto, happy for you to prove the size, im sure you would be right, but I know that Ajax love it because the perception is that it is bigger(maybe in the minds only).Well if the early finals are at Coburg the Jackas will struggle with a few phantom hamstrings on match morning..its happened before, and what about if it is a bit wet..oh no.

Give it a rest champ. The whole Ajax thing has been tried and tested enough. Best to focus on the next 10 weeks than talk about finals now anyway.

Finals won't be at Coburg this year. There is one side in C grade the other side of the Yarra (Rupo) & I can't see them making finals at this stage.

The only reason they were at Coburg & St Bernards last year is due to the 2 OC's, Rupo being in finals. This year it will all be South side teams (Rovers, OAFC, Ajax, Oakleigh, Parkdale, MHSOB) in the hunt for finals spots, so Sandy would be the likely place if it's available.
