One thing for sure we never expected our season to be like this from October 2007. There were signs at pre-season that suggested we were going to have a tough year and i can understand posters writing us off. Hopefully with some luck we will field a much stronger side than we have this year over the next 5 weeks. Fingers crossed and only time will tell !!!

Players have either not played, been injured or gone overseas and that list is around the 35 mark. We lost Quigley to Werribee who is now playing seniors. Players who left the club to play at other clubs all finished playing reserves last year and were all capable players picking up a little money in smaller leagues.

Great round coming up next week.

Monash Blues V Ormond (Ormond easily)
MHSOB V Parkdale (The High school has sound form)
Rupertswood V Whitefriars (Rupo at home)
Ajax V Hampton (Hampton on the slide)
Oakleigh V Mazenod (Oakleigh hard to beat at Scammell)

If the results go as above the final four may be settled only the order may change.

Monash v Ormond: the boys from Gunn Rreserve will get their band wagon back on track this week.
MHSOB v Parkdale: as good as they are at home Parky are lack the ticker to win away
Rupertswood v Whitefriars: Ruppo have too much to play for and the friars are playing for draft picks.
AJAX v Hampton: The Hampton band wagon will remain derailed this week. Fortunate for them they won so many early games - the ruppo of 2008.
Oakleigh v Mazenod: At their very best, Oakleigh are very, very good.

As close as the year has been, this next round could give a 2 game buffer for the current four. Then it will be very difficult for the rest.

sorry blokes, been busy.. hope u havent missed me

the washup of the weekend:
the melb high nerds showed some fight in upset of the round, possibly the year.. noticed rovers had 4 more scoring shots, dno what to read about that. wouldnt write em off quite yet like some nuffs on here

Rupo, FLOOOGGEED! they are deadset battling.. especially after MH had a win, mazenod may have just had a bad one last week. im still thinking they are a chance for the 4

Us, dissapointing.. roughly 10 more shots at goal (probably more if u include missing the lot) and still lose, credit to ajax.. still dont like them but they beat us on the day. we'll be confident next time round

monash are rubbish, no idea how they arent lower on the ladder.. wouldve expected oakleigh to put a few more goals between themselves and the blues.. ahh well, waiting for the krushers to fall

as for the parky v WF game.. pretty sure i didnt care pre-game, and wow.. i still dont.

the break comes at a good time for some, bad for others.. no excuses after it tho.. couple of intersting games, ajax v hampton.. will shape the finals and oak vs maz.. 8 point game.. plus pride, 12 point game. spose WF vs rupo is kinda interesting, in a non-interesting stick it up ur ass ur both shit kind of way

King, can i take it from your line about a bit of luck and fielding a much stronger side over the next few weeks that you will have a few season 07 blokes that got you to a pe lim help you avoid the dredded " R " word ?

Noticed Temmimg in the two's last week, mcphee in the ones, any sign of reid, collins, west, brennan, nettelton, whitehead, geelong phillips ?

These blokes play, rupo just about win the last 5 games.

Interestingly, I found myself in an incident last night where a particular individual on the long term injury list of a C Section club threatened me because he'd been incorrectly informed that I've been using his name as an alias on this forum. Fortunately, said person showed his age and backed down when it got heated, but you do have to laugh at those that take this forum and the alias game seriously.

The AJAX-Hampton Rovers game at Sportscover Arena might have extra significance, apart from a must-win game for both sides. It could be one of the last times we get to see Sportscover Arena used for a VAFA match, with the VAFA about to make a major announcement re the future of Sportscover Arena. Jonathan Horn indicated in the VAFA website, that the VAFA might move its games (but not the VAFA administration) to a new location in Melbourne. Which means it's the end of an era for Sportscover Arena/Elsternwick Park, as a major VAFA venue.

YES! but they beat monash who arent very good either.
i agree with the talk about the lady umpire. she was good as all of the umpires this year. what a great game of footy. i said we would win and now you see why i see my confidence in the ajax team. we will be hard to beat now we have got our wins together.

i think oakliegh are in the right form to be in the 4 now. they are in 2nd but still have to play some big games so they may be about 4th in the end. mazenod are close too.

Think Oakleigh are pretty good, however may have copped some significant injuries last week.....???

It's been common knowledge for some time that the Amos want the Junction Oval as their show piece. OM's want out and the Melbourne F.C. will move to their new venue next year. Others to show interest in the Junction Oval are the AFL with the Sandringham Dragons (TAC) possibly going there. At the moment, the MCC tend to the ground maintenance which is very expensive. I don't know if the VAFA could maintain the ground to the standard that Parks Victoria require. I think football has seen it's last days there and the VCA will take over the oval purely for cricket.

IMO, I reckon the VAFA should've moved its major games much earlier (around 3-5 years ago), when it became clear to everyone (except the VAFA itself) that Sportscover Arena was on borrowed time as a VAFA venue. Interestingly, the Junction Oval was the earlier 'Home of the VAFA' for a couple of years in the early 1960's before the emergence of Elsternwick Park as the no.1 venue in VAFA footy.

zzzz.. nobody care

care a lil bit about the game tho, one more loss in the collum for one of our biggest threats can only be good.

what oakleigh injuries do u speak of, dont come on here with "might" and "couldve"s...

It is not expensive as St.Kilda C.C.have been let off their rent a few times.Would be perfect venue as a VAFA showpiece,by the way Parks Vic. wouldn't know how to get a good surface as they are incompetent.
Ajax will take over at Elsternwick, they want anything they can get their hands on.
The Junction oval is known as the "Jewel in the Crown" by Parks Victoria and your right, they couldn't sew grass even with instructions, thats why the MCC look after it. What do they do with the millions they get from the Grand Prix? They have managed to stuff every ground at Albert Park. I'm with you. Ajax will get EP. They have been chasing it for years.

I will be glad to see Elsternwick Park no longer used for the big VAFA games. I agree with Jas Horn's article re the ground's ability to extract all of the atmosphere from a large crowd.

As a "corridor" player I hated the space there; running teams would just go wide and then wider again. Into the wind, the goals were still four/five kicks away from a deep wing.

Therefore I'm not sure if it will suit Ajax. Sure they love a bit of room, but they also draw alot from their crowd.

PV only get 100,000 a year from the grand pricks.and after Ajax get EP all their other sports bodies will want a part of it,its like locusts
What other sporting bodies could use EP? It's only good for football and cricket and cricket is already spoken for there.

EP is a fantastic fit for AJAX, close to its supporter base, even the Orthodox Jews who can't drive to games because of the Jewish sabbath but who sometimes wander down to watch some footy.

sandy got a bye.. does this mean that hampton will have all them back?? also notice they are all now playing 1s football would be handy...

Major ground works this weekend at HQ so the Hampton/Ajax clash will be at Albert Park. And you guys think EP is windy, just wait till that southerly comes in off the Lake.

That's a surprise, having the AJAX-Rovers game at Albert Park. I thought the VAFA would use Trevor Barker Oval for the match, seeing that Sandringham has the week off. Which oval would be used for the game at Albert Park?

Jase - ease up son.

The VAFA have no right to use TBO, and they pay dearly for its hiring for B/C section finals.

The oval at Albert Park is the Gary Smorgon Oval (Oval #9), which has been the home of the AJAX FC for as long as I can remember. They still play U19s and underage games there every weekend.

The game is still scheduled for Elsternwick Park as the fixture suggests. A final decision will be made following a ground inspection tomorrow.
