As I wasn't there to see the Rovers-Oakleigh preliminary final (due to illness), could someone fill me in on the closing stages of the game?

probably best game ive seen all year yesterday

wouldnt like to be the oakleigh player that handballed to the opposition after a mark in the goal square.. couldve cost his club a spot in B grade.. OOPS!

balancing premiership glory and fathers day has been a challenge.

seems the earlier post I responded to has been withdrawn - perhaps sober reflection by Z#3........

a few other players cost them B grade sat.. one being briggs..the bloke that looks like a dropped pie.. easily the uglyest bloke in C grade.. running around in the backline with no intention of manning up. in the last qrt took a few marks in the back line but for a bloke who was free all day did nothin.. my heart goes out for the other oakleigh players tho. and good luck to rovers next week..

ignoring your gutless irrelevant snipe

but it terms of saturdays game Briggsy and his 21 team-mates did the club proud on saturday - taking the club to within a few points of B Grade is an outstanding effort first year up.

just having a giggle at the first few pages of this thread..

rupo - unbackable favourites

ajax - soft, will finish mid table

hampton - will struggle to win a game

oakleigh - WILL NOT be playing finals

u guys are on par with robert walls for ur expertise

dead... set... dickhea.ds... should put more of ur energy into ur own club than writing off others, then maybe ud be playing next week.

2 points is Krushing, though!

Briggsy was good all day for mine. Doesn't look like a footballer, but has been a solid contributor in every game he's played against Hampton over the 2 years. Comments about him not manning up in defence aren't quite accurate given he was playing loose and therefore didn't have an opponent.

And whoever it was that picked at the guy for handballing in the goalsquare (I think it was Edwards) is kidding himself. 4 goals to Oakleigh in the first quarter came directly from free kicks. All ridiculous errors on our behalf. Their ability to convert those chances is what kept them in it early.

Well done on reaching B Grade micky. Shows that the district clubs can reach the higher grades. Good luck next week.

Thanks bud. Congrats to your mob.
Disregard some of the sh*t that's flung from the troublemakers. A bit of sh*tstirring that apparently went a bit far from the reports. Good luck in C Section for 2009. Have some fun with the Oakleigh crowd for us too.

i witnessed the best game of amateur football ive seen in 2008 on saturday at sandringham. im usually involved with d2 football & it was great to see the game played at a higher level in this association. it was a pity one of the teams had to go - hampton rovers AND oakleigh are both worthy of taking on ormond this week...

rovers are also first year up, and went one better... they would still feel the pain of last years grand final loss to oaks.. but being in B grade im sure for the boys will ease that pain from last year.. lets hope for them they can win it this year.. wont be an easy game tho. will be a cracker to watch.. good luck ting.. you know ill be there watching you champ..

I must admit after getting beaten by Oakleigh in grand final last year I was very pleased with the weekend's result. My 2 old clubs fighting it out for bragging rights after both earning promotion.

What has happened to the post from the Zebra man that was here yesterday? I agree with those comments about Bromley. Heroic effort to take his shot after the siren. He was smashed to bits by Woodman.

Huge one this week. Most of my time was spent at Gunn Res, but the bonds from HR are still strong. Either way it should be a super game. If Saturday is anything to go by it's very hard to go past Hampton. The Ormond boys having a week off will be cherry ripe. A draw would be a good result.

So who's going to lift the trophy at 4:50pm Saturday at Trevor Barker Oval-Hampton Rovers or Ormond? Put your selection here and the reason(s) why.

Hampton by 10 points ...hard at the ball and the man... and lots of Finals experience will help them on the big stage.
Ormond has plenty of talent but I reckon the Hampton defence can hold them out . If Hampton can get off to a good start, they will be hard to beat.
:thumbsu:
Good luck to both sides...

Very biased opinion, but Ormond to do the double - 1's & 2's Premierships.

OAFC 1's by 27pts - Due to the physicality of the HR/Oak, that game would have taken a fair bit out out of the Rovers & we have beaten them the last 2 times we have played them. Will be a cracking game though. And we owe them from 1951!

OAFC 2's by 39pts - All over Oakleigh. Will do it in a canter.

I wonder how influential the wind will be to this contest? I think whoever gets the favourable conditions should win the game.

I'm surprised by Oakleigh. They are the most impressive 2's side I've seen in the past 2 seasons, yet choked last year after blitzing the H&A season in '07 and they seemed overwhelmed by Ormond in the 2nd semi. Weren't quite as impressive on the weekend in the early game either. Ormond to go back to back.

Fair play to you mazal, your club gets absolutely pasted on this forum, but you rise above it to give a fairly balanced opinion.. Pity we can't say the same about Goldy and Yosi!

Congrats to the Rovers and Ormond, I'm gutted i'm on the other side of the world and will miss it. Two clubs with a long and proud history and a rivalry that goes back more than half a century both in juniors and seniors.

We also have the added spice of former 98 Premiership coach Russell Barnes and 98 premiership player and 2007 U'19's coach Cam Mcgregor now both at Ormond.

There were some negative posts earlier this season about Russell Barnes coaching which I didn't bother responding to, but having played under him and seeing the positive transformation he had at our club, I have nothing but praise for the man. He may not be everyones cup of tea and might have a shelf life coaching one club but no one knows the ammos more than him, and his record at Rovers, St Bedes, Beauy and now Ormond speaks for itself. His battle with Rovers Gary Sheldon will go along way to deciding the game.

Sheldon also deserves alot of credit taking Rovers to back to back promotions and will have a point to prove after losing the battle of the whiteboards in last seasons decider.

Good luck to both teams, I have my fingers and toes crossed for a Rovers victory by how much i really don't care...
