This balance becomes very hard to manage, there is a pull from both ends. Good Luck with it. A major issue for us was the jump from u16 to u 19 where alot of players had up to 4 years as a junior with a desire to play seniors with the conundrum of the clubs desire to be competitive in the best under age comp outside of TAC. I suppose the idealistic view is to play your best 22 in the seniors week in week out, this certainly does not always pan out considering the pull of friendship and playing with your mates.

On the other hand our change of model certainly has a degree of uncertainty as we move forward. The movement of our second tier players out of our club will put strain on our depth. The core group is strong, yet i sense our year will be defined by a fully fit playing group even more so than 2008. For some reason i feel "C" Grade will be an awesome comp and playing Parkdale at Parkdale round 1 is a huge challenge for our club considering round 1 2008!!!!!! Is Rochford still playing?????? It should be fun!!!!

I wonder when the proverbial lightbulb will become illuminated with the majority of amateur clubs regarding the U18 competition? In my opinion the VAFA's 3rdXVIII model is a short-term fix that does not address functional and real pathways for junior footballers into senior ranks.

Most junior comps finish at U17s (U17 on 1st Jan) and the jump in maturity and physicality to U19s (19 or under on 30 June) has seen many good football prospects aged 17 preferring not to play against 20 year olds, rejecting amateur football and going elsewhere - for good.

The VAFA U18 competition is the 'sleeping giant' that could provide amateur football with a sustainable pathway from junior football. Now that the VAFA has learnt from its U18 inaugural year and limited U19 players allowed to play in U18s to 4 per game, I think you will see the emergence of a popular attraction to developing juniors.

So called football analysts who judge the potential impact of U19 players playing senior football on their U19 team performance without assessing whether they also have an U18 team as a reliable feeder do so at their peril.

There are 3, Andrew is the oldest, and has hung them up. Brett has returned, and Callum is the youngest and is at Port Melbourne with CGFC as his second club.

But i say keep your eye on the "ice man" on his return.

I can only think that the sharks and vultures may remember him. Apologies for the nickname only, but it is all i can give at the moment.

are this guys initials BF? If so is a genuine gun from probably season'04,when he was about 20 or so.the guy i'm thinking of did a pre season at Carlton.

Why so coy?

He hasn't missed a session the whole summer, but maintained that work would be his priority.
Now the season is coming quickly he's put his hand up. I wouldn't want him to feel any pressure that he doesn't already put on himself. To be fair to the bloke I'll leave it at that. Apologies AM

No Probs. The 'G Train' been seen at all?

Nick Fallu to state the obvious... Is his nickname really "Ice man"? Because that is pretty gay.

not too gay if you gotta run with him or get tackled by him.

In a ripper game Rnd 1 2004 he literally destroyed my mid-field by running each one in turn of their legs, whilst helping himself to 40 + possessions and a swag of tackles.

That midfield was Credlin,Bayford and Christie with Hardman,Whitehead and Tempone as back ups, amongst others.Best midfield during my 15 years at the club.(apologies to Radar).

Ironically it was his last direct opponent who kicked the winning goal for OC.Christie, exhausted with only a minute or so to go,stopped chasing Fallu as Caufield (who led by 5 points after trailling all day),stormed forward.A turnover rebounded to Crystal who went crash from beyond 50m to give us a lucky win.A draw would of been the fitting result.

The reason for the reminiscing is to let you know how indelibly Fallu's efforts are etched in my memory.

He will pose a massive problem for C Grade coaches if he returns to Ammo footy in that sort of form and fitness.

Whilst I too am disappointed to lose these players, the club restructure at Rupo has been a great move and I am tremendously excited at the prospect of a young and dynamic group of players constantly challenging for spots in the seniors. Onward and upward !

Can anyone give me a definite list of the players we have lost at Rupo from last year? I think our best young guys are still there. Any praccy games on this weekend?

Fitzroy are playing an intraclub today at Arden street.

EDIT: this weekends (19th of March) practice match now against Werribee in Werribee. 19's, reserves and seniors all playing.

Old Camberwell vs Old Geelong this Sunday down at Geelong Grammar. Should be a good hit out between two sides that are going to be playing each other in 2010.

Ormond had over 20 players out, so a good effort and Ormond ressies won by 30 goals

Bit Rich saying Ormond had 20 players are they the same 20 that have left to go to Hampton Rovers. All Clubs have big numbers unavailable at this time of the year. My mail from Mazenod is that they had 12 of ther best 18 out. But then again are they going to be March/April Specialist again

Mazenod were to good for Ormond on Saturday by about 6 goals could of been more if they kicked straight. Can any one add any more as i did not see the game.

15.11 to 11.7 was the score. We had 15-20 missing from 1's & 2's so an overall improvement will be made next praccy game. Good result from us considering it was basically the U/19 team of 3 years ago. The oldest player being 27 years old.

Reserves won by 20-25 goals, but according to a few Mazenod people, only a few of their premiership 2's team were playing.

Off to Echuca for our next game.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to know if anyone knows of any teams that are struggling for numbers in the Two’s. I am not much of a Footballer just keen for a bit of a kick somewhere.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
