A Club Legend calls it a day!

As the final siren sounds on Saturday afternoon, one of the clubs most distinguished football playing careers will come to an end when the legendary Michael Sullivan hangs up his boots.

In a career spanning over 18 seasons, it all started when a skinny 16 year old kid rocked up to play his first Senior game in 1993, and kicked 2 goals on debut. Since then it has been quite a journey leading to this day.

Very quickly from his early days with the club, Mick become a permanent fixture at Centre Half Forward (often described as the hardest position on the football field), and pretty much held that spot for the majority of his career, including in the 2001 Premiers & Champions team.

In more recent years, he has found himself featuring more and more at full back and centre half back - just to exemplify his versatility.

A very courageous competitor, Mick has never taken a backward step on the field!

Over the years he become very renowned for his ability to consistently stand and deliver, always presenting himself to the contest and many times absorbing the full crunch of a pack, often to be the last man standing – with the ball in hand.

Such was the magnitude of his strength, courage and presence on the ground... 'just Kick it to Mick' became a common catch cry from the supporters on the boundary, especially in tight games.

A true warrior of our club, and the third of six Sullivan brothers to run out for the Parkdale Vultures, Mick has also been a very loyal and passionate member, both on and off the field.

He has served on the General Committee for 5 Years and is regularly the first to put his hand up to help out. Even to this day, nearly every week he's in the kitchen helping to serve the player's dinners on Thursday nights, after himself just coming off the track.

Mick finishes his playing career 3rd on the All-time list of Club Games with 277, and 2nd on the Senior (Ones) Games list at 274.

For his outstanding contribution to the Parkdale Vultures, Mick was award Life Membership in 2007.

Career Accolades:

277 games (274 Senior, 3 Reserve), 13 Finals, 437 goals. Premiers & Champions Player '01, 2nd Best & Fairest '94, '04, 3rd Best & Fairest '98, '02, Best 1st Year Player '94, Best Utility '96, Best Final Player '97, and Most Courageous '01.

On behalf of everyone involved at the club Mick (alias Gargy, Gmel, Magic), congratulations on such a stella career. Your record and achievements are a true testament to your ability, your drive and your desire to be the best you can be. Well done!

Note: To celebrate the occasion on Saturday, we want to get as many past players as possible that played a game with Mick to join us in the rooms before he takes the field one last time – and if you know of others who may not receive this email that played with Mick, please pass this information on.

Old Geelong v Beaumaris - A big win for the Sharks on a oval that will suit them will see them rightfully finish top.
Ajax v Rupertswood - I reckon the Jackas may rest a few and still easily get across the line. Sheehy may even leave at three quarter time if the job is done!
Parkdale v Fitzroy - Will bet on Vultures getting up for the third Sullivan.
Ormond v Mazenod - Will be too good for the Monders and will relish not playing on a cow paddock.
Old Camberwell v Caulfield - For the first time this season the Fields have their backs to the wall. Win and it's a 2nd Semi, lose and it's an elimination final. I'll back them to step up.

Old Geelong v Beaumaris
Ajax v Rupertswood
Parkdale v Fitzroy
Ormond v Mazenod
Old Camberwell v Caulfield

I haven't seen a game and haven't read much of this forum. Can anyone elaborate on Caulfield's demise? Looks like the wheels have fallen off in dramatic fashion. 6 weeks ago they were a monty for B grade.

Don't know much myself but Caulfield are still very much in the mix. They and Beaumaris were toe-to-toe at top of the table for the first half of the season. Both teams have hit a few hiccups in the home straight, while AJAX (and to an extent, Old Camberwell) hadn't set the world on as much fire, but are now maintaining their form and are still winning when the two top teams have started dropping matches.

Demise may be a touch pre-emptive. There is no doubt the losses to Beauy, Fitroy and the Jackas were dissappointing, but they were all within a goal or two. So when beaten it hasn't been by much.

They could certainly do with a teaspoon of cement, but lets see how they do in the next month when it really matters (starting this weekend!). I am still confident the boys will stand up at crunch time.

For neutral supporters you may want to pop down to see the Jackas game against Rupertswood. Bernie Sheehy will most likely do a victory lap at three quarter time and is happy to give out high fives as he goes around! After all it is all about Bernie and not the blokes wearing the red, white and black!

No thanks, hopefully Rupo can fix them up. We don't like AJAX at the best of times... Their coach just fits in with the rest of them down there...

This weeks tips looking to finish off strong.

Beaumaris, Should win this game as from whispers that offgers mite stack up there 2s side so they have better chance of getting that double chance in the 4. beauy should win this clash by about 90 points.

Ajax,Have alot to play for this week as a double chance in the fianls is up for grabs against a battling rupertswood. Ajax by 60 points.

Fitzroy, The unlucky team in c grade will finish the year off strong in preparation for a big year next year. Win by 30 points .

Ormond, Should be a good match this one both middle placed not much to play for but a higher postion on the ladder. Win by 15 points.

Old Camberwell, Clearly match of the round. The wellers were unlucky not to win finish off where they left off last week. Think caulfield will crack under the pump as they have been the hunted all year will be a sad end for the fileds. Win by 5 points.

Currently working on a team of the year including coaching staff. Would be interested in some opinons from others.

Short list for coach of the year
Jason Misfud (beauy)
Simon Taylor (fitzroy)
Tim killworth (old camberwell)
Bernie Sheey (ajax)
Dave Matthews(parkdale)
List will be narrowed down to 3 by the end of the weekend.

C.Tonkin (beauy) has already been appointed assistant coach for the team.

Will I think these are fair contenders as misfud has beauy sitting on top,Simon Taylor had a fantastic as he got the victories against beauy at home and caulfiled. Bernie Sheey is eyeing off a top 2 finish this week. Davve matthews has done a fantastic job of keeping a struggling team together and they have been somewhat competive. Tim Killworth has had fantastic year without his afl superstars playing and are now a serious contender in the finals.

Who do u rekon should be coach of the year?

Frase. I hope u blokes sort out the cancers in your under 19s before next year. What a disgrace!

Honestly TT all I know right now is the U19 game between Werribee and Fitzroy was close at 3/4 time. Don't know the end result but I presume there were some incidents which were of concern to your lads. I guess next weeks 2nd semi will have extra spite if that's the case.

Sorry to hear that TT, but I can't add anything useful until I chat to some of those lads tonight.

Brave effort by the Vultures today who gave their all in Steve Sullivans last game. Steve himself kicked a couple of handy snags to keep the game close but we managed to hold them out at the end.

Wish them all the best for 2011 and hope they have a more successful season and start moving back in the right direction. Good club, good people. Good luck Parkdale.

Congratulations to RealSaga, who stayed on top by the devilishly clever ruse of waiting for Mike Drunkbeater to post his tips, then picked the same. Keano15 would have shared third, but for the fatal mistake of changing his tips. Always go with your first gut reaction!

RealSaga wins a Canadian raffle ticket for his pains, but after paying for it by Western Union I got what looked like a photocopy of a real ticket, and my mrs accidentally shredded it when she was throwing out some old bills.
