Both taken in the same draft, Picks 3 and 4 i think.

Both have to some extent been disappointing in regards to unfulfilled potential, but who would you rather have?

Both ahve shown glimpses, but Sylvia is STILL yet to do a full pre-season (he's injurd currently as well) since he was 16 - and that isn't an excuse, that's just plain frustration.

He can be good, he's got a strong body, great hands, skillful and booming kick, aggression and is one of the best tacklers we've got.

But he can't get out on teh park, adn when he does, he isn't accountable enough - I honeslty think he coudl be heading towards being a career HFF instead of a midfielder as other young blokes ahve already pushed him back in the pecking order.

Ray is good, and will be good in future as well but I don't think anyone would argue that these two blokes have done the least out of the top 5 of their draft

Sylvia is pretty hopeless = Gary Morecroft Mk 2. Ray will be a star. Loads of natural footy smarts and brilliant skills. Was always going to take longer to develop, because of his light frame. :)

Sylvia has turned out to be a monumental flop. Played a few great VFL games, but just not up to AFL standard. Shame. :)
A flop due to injuries.

Now Parrot, I know your a learned expert when it comes to AFL but I think you may have missed the boat on this one.

All I ask you to do is watch a copy of Melbourne V Brisbane 2006 and you'll realise you're being too harsh on him. The kid marked everything in sight that night!

I could also send you about 5 DVD's of Sylvia looking totally lost, not comitting to contests, or causing turnover shockers from skill errors. He was 100% fit in these games BTW. All very well to have attitude off the field, but his onfield efforts have been meek and lack ticka. The Dees hierarchy's patience is wearing thin I suspect, and the injury excuse doesn't hold anymore. 2007 could be his last unless he produces a massive turnaround. I hope he does, but every year that passes makes it less likely. Farren Ray is so far ahead of Sylvia, it just makes this poll look silly. :)

C'mon Parrot!! Have you been drinking

Seriously mate, Sylvia is a bonafide star who only needs a change of luck through injury.

Sylvia will reach his Andrew Walker like credentials next year, and we can both enjoy our future young guns for many years and celebrate a Melbourne-Carlton hybrid force in the immediate years to come.

Remember Parrot, Sylvia was one of the driving forces behind a certain Princes Park farewell game in 2005.

Our feathered fiend is very concerned that our Col will prove to be a superior player to skinny Walker. And he has every right to be. Carlton could have chosen Brock or Col and instead they took Walker. Now Walker is a fine young player - in the Grant Lawrie mould, but he doesn't have Col's x factor or upside.

Walker has already had his 'break out' year yet Col's stats, albeit humble, still mirror his. Have a look:http://www.finalsiren.com/PlayerCom...ia&PlayerName3=&PlayerName4=&SelectedPlayers=

Funnily enough, young Col has quite a good record against Carlton in his 4 games.

Facts are, McLean, Sylvia, Bate, Jones, TJ, Moloney, and Petterd, form the nucleas of a fantastic midfield for years to come.:)

Thanks for the laugh:p , because there's no way anyone could honestly believe what you just said. Walker is so far ahead of Sylvia it's not funny.
Why not look at 2006 stats? http://www.pro-stats.com.au/psw/web/compare_players?tid1=103&pid1=2004017&tid2=109&pid2=2004064
Skinny Walker? You've got no idea - http://bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=287303
You thought his 06 season was good, well you've seen nothing yet. This boy will dominate for a good long time, and to say he has no upside is pathetic and CLEARLY shows you've never watched him play.

Sylvia played 17 games this year - yet only managed over 20 possessions once. Walker had 20+ touches nine times from 22 games:confused: . Saying Sylvia is better, at this stage, is idiotic. He could be very good, but he's shown NOTHING to suggest he'll be anywhere near Walker. Why not go and watch Carlton vs Melbourne again, round 18, where Walker destroyed Robertson and still managed to pick up more possessions than Sylvia has in any game this year?

As for the poll, Farren Ray easily, he's also shown much more than Walker, despite being smaller and needing more development.

Take it easy, kid. Can't you spot a troll ? The amount of cr@p on these sites is astonishing, and the views on Sylvia are no exception. Do I believe what I wrote about Walker ? Of course not. But it's easy to join the uneducated (and usually illiterate) masses, isn't it ?

That said, it's best you understand what you read. I never wrote that Sylvia is "better at this stage".

I would take Sylvia in a heartbeat.........

Sylvia is taking a while to come on but he's a bigger player who gets the hard ball and has been injured.

Ray is an outside receiver who's not even particularly good at that.

C. Sylvia Has The Speed, The Accuracy And The Distance Unlike F. Ray.
Ray doesn't have speed??? And in terms of distance Ray breaks the lines and runs with the ball something Sylvia doesn't do. Anyone who chooses Sylvia over Ray based on what they have both shown is either a biased Melbourne fan or plain ignorant

You think I am getting stuck into Brock McLean just for the sake of it don't you. The only reason I am doing this is because I am right. He is the most over-rated, overhyped kid ever to be talked about on BigFooty. When it comes to a kid like Sylvia who is criticised unfairly I will also put my two cents in. It has nothing to do with the team, it's more to do with the Pied Piper (Rj) who spreads BS across the BigFooty world and all the little 15 year olds follow like Penguins.

Quite arrogant of you to be pushing your opinion as fact and treating those whom disagree as ignorant.

I dont have much of a case for sylvia but to claim ray is much better is a nonsense.

It apprears to me that your recruiters have got it wrong (picked ray up far to early in the draft). He is a dime a dozen player whose biggest attribute is his running power - aerobic not speed.

I've noticed several bulldog supporters making a case for him which is nice however given how some later draft picks have performed, demonstrates you could have done better with such a high pick.
