I hope so, I'm really gutted. 1 of my fave players, on the bright side he seems thankful for everything. It would be hard to hide it and he did seem to give his all on the field.

Good luck to him, we will all no doubt follow his career as he is the first to really want to go home and probably did it as professionally as possible and without sacrificing any character on field.

It appears to be as everyone else is pretty much signed up.

The part I like is this

Ashcroft said the Suns would now begin discussions with Caddy's management to organise a move.

"We will now commence the process with Josh's manager to find an alternate home for Josh. Both Josh and his manager understand that it will be the clubs intention to facilitate an exchange that will deliver the most favourable outcome for the advancement of our playing group going forward," Ashcroft said.
Sounds like best bid wins to me?

I don't think Caddy leaving should affec us going after Tippett. I think we should go after him regardless of what we do. If we can use Caddy in a three-way trade to get Tippett though, then brilliant.

It already looks like it's going to be a crazy trade period.

At least the speculative drama is over now, and I wish him all the best. He gave us great service this season, playing with a buggered shoulder, and after a frustrating 2011. The kids a gem and I look forward to watching him mature over the years.

I must say though, I'm pumped for our trades period this season. We are in an extremely strong bargaining position come trades week with some decent players available as trade bait. I personally hope we manage to trade 4 guys for say 2 experienced players to fill voids in our list... and a cpl extra rd 1 picks would be nice aswell :)

Gutted, he really came on towards the end of the year and his talent is clear for all to see. Wish him the best.

I know I mentioned this before, but this homesickness thing in professional sports is really strange to me.

Will throw in Toy also in exchange for a $50 voucher to be used at Kardinia Cafe?
No probs. we've also got a few premiership stars looking for a couple of years in the sun to round out their careers, maybe send that bald bloke whose hogging the ball and stunting the development of you're youngsters back down here ;)

It's always disappointing because it's hard not to interpret it as a slight on the Club, and then by default you as a supporter and by further extension where we live.
But the draft and national comp will always throw these things up and I think you just have to move on
The hardest part will be watching him hurt us playing for someone else at Metricon.

Really , I know what you mean.
Honestly , it could be the best thing for you that you lose a few players good enough to trade rather than delist high potential kids that have got enough game time for zip

Part of why I can understand the homesickness thing is that for a lot of these kids it's their first time living away from home. For any of you that went to college straight away at 18 you'll know this. You're pumped up for your first few weeks at school, but then you might have a set back, or a teacher comes down on you or you suffer some sort of disappointment and you don't have that familiar support system in your family and friends for the last 18-19 years there to pat you on the back and tell you it's ok.

The big difference between professional sports in the USA and AUS is that the kids here in the states usually have 3-4 years of college to get them ready for the pro leagues so that by the time they get there they are used to being away from home......for a lot of these kids all they have is the club and whatever people they meet locally, but it's not the same as home. The kids that are strong can get past it, the weaker ones succumb.

Talent aside, maybe we're better off in Caddy's case if after 2 years away he can't make a new home 3 hours north by plane.

I think if we trade him carefully we could benefit from his
departure. Eg spreading the player age by getting the compo pick or by recruiting another gun

homesickness has a pretty lose definition in afl ranks... he wants to be with his sick father, play at the the mcg infront of huge crowds, and have the fame that comes with being an afl footballer in melbourne, but he cant really say the 2nd two reasons, so putting it down to "homesickness" is a get out of jail free card, however there are normally other reasons

So not only are you subtly insulting us by insinuating how much better Melbourne is, you're saying that the reason he wants to go home isn't because of his unfortunately sick Dad, but that he wants fame and fortune? I don't particularly care about Josh anymore but it's pretty low to pot his character like that. If you said that in the real world people (me included) would tell you to **** off.

You play at the MCG in front of huge crowds if you play finals, which we will.

I think you just need to take things like this at face value and leave it at that. Aimless specualtion is not only insulting but it is also about as useful as tits on a bull.

Umm... wow

you completely have not understood what i said at all, please read my post carefully before going off ur nut.

I never said melbourne is better than the GC, only an AFL player is more famous living in melbourne because its a bigger sport here.

The bolded bit is annoying and insulting, because you clearly didnt read what i said then raged at it. I said he wants to be with his sick dad AND fame. I never NEVER said that his sick dad isnt a reason for him wanting to go home, i said its one of the reasons then listed two others.

Cant believe you, u seriouslly need to go to bed, you basically read my post the complete opposite way it was written.

My apologies. You said that he wanted to come home for his sick dad AND fame.

I still think its low to insinuate that Joh's priorities have fake on the same level as his sick Dad. That is a blatant attack on his character, which some would find offensive.

And all the 'go to bed' crap can just be left out mate. No need to tell me directly what to do - no-one wants to read that crap. DM me I you want to talk to me personally - just don't expect me to respond.

im not sure where ur getting that.. i said his dad AND blahblahblah... i never insinuated they were on the same level, i just gave 3 reasons why he would want to come back to melbourne. I never said anything to suggest the reasons were all of equal important to him, your reading between the lines and interpreting things i never said.

Your anger seems to be pretty unreasonable and unfounded, which is why i suggested to sleep on it
