Good example of why this stuff shouldn't be taken too seriously. They judge off ladder position instead of individual performance. It's a nice accolade to have but not a good measure of player quality.

Unfortunately the vast majority of the footy following population still only places value in the Brownlow and AA team as a measure of how good a player was.

I was pissed off when Roma missed last year but this tops even that. Wilkie would be in most people's final team but to not make the squad is an indictment on the selectors and makes the whole exercise pointless to me.

Battle has had a consistent year but hasn't done anything this year that he hadn't done at the Saints for the last 3 years. Don't try and tell me he's an improved player. A reliable defender who gets a lot of easy kicks patrolling the backline.

In all honesty I feel that Wilkie hasn't been as good this year as the past couple of years but that's a reflection on the personnel around him than anything else. No idea the source but he's supposedly had the most goals kicked on him out of any key defender this season.

No slight on him whatsoever. If Battle got in this year then zero reason he shouldn't have last year either... some odd selections.
