Also got to remember Mundy is 30+ and needs to be replaced soon.
Blakely looks likely but Mundy's position will need to be replaced soon.

Mayne, Suban, Mundy, Johnson, Pav, Dawson, Mzungu, Danyle Pearce, Lee Spurr, Clancee Pearce, Jack Hannath, Zac Clarke, Johnathan Griffin, Arran Sandilands and Matt Deboer. ALL GONE in the next 2-3 seasons at best. Most in 2 seasons
Even Ballantyne is 30 next year
14 players...now how don't we need Cale Hooker? He's not 28 until October

If it was me, the ones in red would retire/be delisted this year, and the ones in blue would be offered for trade, and I'd take a third rounder each for any and all of them.
Even a fourth for Suban.

A fourth rounder might mean a semi-decent ruck

Wouldn't be a against using our first rounder on a ruck. Brodie Grundy holds up Collingwoods ruck ok in his third season (and did it alright last year too). I see Jeremy Goddard from WA is rated very highly this year. Rucks are a big issue now as much as anything.

I'd rather have Sheridan, Tucker and Sutcliffe delivering the ball off half back than Hannath in the ruck...

We need a Pav replacement and a 2nd tall so I really hope we go hard for Hooker and McCarthy.

Bennell A Pearce Walters
Yarran Hooker McCarthy

Alex to continuing as our fwd/ruck gives us three genuine tall targets that can mark the ball and three small/med classy players.

Weller/Langdon/Croz can work off the wings rotating with Bennell and Walters when we want them in the middle.

When Johnson/Dawson retire Hooker can go to the backline, depending on how Collins and Uebergang are coming along and where he is most needed.

Hooker moved forward for the last half of '15 season and average 2 goals a game for Essendon, was quite comfortable taking contested marks inside 50.

The way I look at it we have immediate issues in:
2 KP forward roles.
2 KP back roles, as Dawson is 30 odd and Johnson is 32 and his body is creaky.
Ruck.
Back pocket and half back flank.

Hooker IMMEDIATELY solves one of them for the next 3-4 years with no draft picks required.
McCarthy helps with another and we can then start filling the ball carrier and ruck holes at the next two drafts.
We have conservatively 8-10 players that need to go in the next two clean outs

Yeah, exactly.

We need 5 talls to come through over the next 2 years or so. 2 KPD, 2 KPF and a ruck. Realistically do we think we're going to get that out of our current kids plus the next two drafts? That would be fantasy given the league wide strike rate on KPPs, let alone out dismal record.

I think if you replace Dawson with Hooker that also helps our backline disposal issues. Rather than having to hand off at every opportunity, Hooker is a decent, if not exceptional kick.

Hooker is a must get, especially considering he is a free agent. He is instant best 22, holding down ether CHB or FF depending on how we go with other targets

I think we need to think long term.

I can't see us winning a premiership in the next 4-5 years, so why would we bring him in?

No Fyfe, Neale, Bennell and Hooker is enough to make us flag favourites dont you know?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Blakely is the next Mundy and McCarthy is already a proven superstar (who we already have):rolleyes:

Imagine if StKilda got a player like Hooker at his age in 2012! I'd be super smart

I don't see a problem with getting Hooker. We need an experienced KPD down there even if we're rebuilding. Johnson and Dawson will be gone end of next year at the latest. Any team with KPPs exclusively aged less than 23 will get smashed every single week. It allows us to develop a KPD at Peel so they are ready to go when Hooker retires and also means that we can fill other needs first. Not many KPDs are ready to go straight away. What's wrong with getting a player for free and then filling other needs.

We recruited McPhee in 2009 and were slammed at the time. He may not have even been a superstar like Hooker but he didn't stall the lists development. We made the finals the next season. It's not all about 18 year olds, it's about getting a balance between youth and experience and quite frankly we don't have enough leaders after the days of Pav, Sandi, Mundy and co.

No sarcastic cretin he improves the team on the cheap while we fill other gaps

Cheap?

Aren't the rumours stating 5 years on silly money for a player to help us rebuild?

Good luck us getting anyone else for the next 5 years if we do it.

Imagine if we lose Neale and pick up Hooker. Fun times and great list management :thumbsu:

In draft picks. Are you replacing 14 players only at the draft table?

We're also talking an All Australian CHB. How many of those are we getting from the draft? You think he should come to the club for 300k?

Who are we losing Neale to? What are they giving us?

Unless we're a contender I don't want a guy that's 28 with his best football behind him. Also, the game is getting faster and he isn't no spring chicken. While teams like Geelong are moving on older players that don't fit the club's next chapter we should pick up an AA 28 year old? so we don't finish bottom?

Neale hasn't signed, and there wasn't any real reason for him not to during the pre season. His value to the club wouldn't have changed much. Now where the club is I can't see him staying. I think we'd get a high first rounder for him.

He's 28 not 32 ffs.

And your argument then becomes that you rule out anyone of that age regardless of their worth and/or cost is frankly horse shit.
You may wish to be Melbourne or Carlton counting your high draft picks while getting the shit kicked out of you, but I find that highly unpalatable.
Geelong have added guys like Mitch Clarke and Rhys Stanley...you need a shovel for some of that horse shit?

Neale may leave...I doubt it and it's barely even speculation...

Would you think it would be a smart idea for Brisbane to go after him?

I think this is a bit of a stretch, he would actually be in his peak given he is a KPP.

The belief that you have to spend years rebuilding is crap.

With smart trading and some luck with free agency you can add quality quickly.

We still have the depth in the midfield to compete particularly if Bennell gets fit
Yeah we just need the bookends and a bit more pace and skill, Bennell and Mora do fix this when they are fit

Spend years trying to get a quality player into the club. And now when there is a good possibility one is coming our way, people are suggesting we pull out. *sigh*
