How much should I bet that despite the strong rumours around that Hooker isn't interested in coming home, it will still be Bond and Lloyd's fault if we don't get him?

There is, unfortunately, a finite amount of money in the kitty to offer before we jeopardise the ability to retain our better players. We can't just say "sky's the limit" to any player we are trying to lure here without considering that. Again, unfortunately, with the number of clubs we are competing against in Victoria, it's hard to be persuasive as it will usually take an exorbitant amount of money to get a man to uproot his entire family and start over fresh somewhere else, even if it is "going back home."

Selection of Hooker at full back????? You dont pay fulll backs $600K Plus per annum as that is what we would have to pay for him.
I think the speculation is quite a deal more than that. Did anyone else hear Mark Stevens recently claim on 7 after a game that we've offered Hooker $1m?

Edit: Robbo's latest article if you can get behind the paywall here. Otherwise, essential bits below. https://t.co/gtreCBmdGm

Dockers are believed to have tabled a five-year deal at an estimated $800,000 for Hooker, although Essendon sources believe it could be has much as $1 million a season over six seasons. All the clubs interested in the All-Australian defender have indicated at least a five-year deal will be offered. The Bombers, however, are prepared to only offer a four-year deal at about $750,000 per season. They are not prepared to table a five-year deal, remembering long-term deals, such as Mark Mercuri’s five years, which did not deliver good value. He leaves for America later this month, where he will spend time with several US professional sports teams. He is expected to make a decision on his football future when he returns. He could walk to Fremantle or the Hawks or any club as an unrestricted free agent, meaning the Bombers won’t be in a position to match any offer. They wouldn’t anyway.

I think makes it easier being a club in Victoria. I think you need to target players earlier before they have a family.

If you think that, you are quite a bit out of touch with things.

Hey guys, just ran into our illustrious leader rtb. He was getting his hair cut, and I have to say, he is completely different to what you see in the media. Very friendly, and very honest. He answered several of my questions. Here is what he told me.
-Ethan Hughes was going to play against West Coast before he tweaked his hammy. Ross thinks he's going to be a very good player.
-Cale Hooker wants to stay in Melbourne, from what he is lead to believe.
-Mundy is a couple of weeks away still
-Our lack of height is really hurting us
-Harley is a very special player
-Our lack of high draft picks has hurt our talent pool
-Ross is very disappointed at our skill level.
-Sandi is 8 weeks away, and had injuries similar to a car crash
Sorry, I know the last few points aren't ground breaking, but thought it was worth passing on.

Thanks for the info

I think that the lack of high draft picks is an excuse. If he did say say that.

Hawks haven't had a high draft pick in many a year. They finish on top all the time. It's the culture and skills that are trained to execute at training that brings these late round draft picks. They get the best out of the picks available.

That's easy to say when you can lure Brian lake, Josh Gibson, Jack Gunston, David Hale, Ben Mcevoy, Shaun Burgoyne to you club..
Who needs draft picks!

Then you lose Brian lake and replace him with James Freaking Frawley! They make it look so, so easy!

At the Harbourmasters meeting it was mentioned by Rosich that the club has a huge war chest, many millions in the black. Would not be all for players but a good chunk could be.

War chest was my take,:) its money in the bank. Wont say how much but if one of the Harbourmaster's who post on here want to elaborate ,its up to them.
Club's rudderless!!
If they've got that sort of money available they why aren't they paying the spuds more to play better??o_O:oops:

Really ? Well considering your on the ball or claim to be tell me how many full backs are on $600K or more per annum. By the way according to the AFL site Steele Sidebottom who is a match winner wich Hooker isn't had his contract extended for 5 yrs for total of $3Million.

In your opinion. Myself and plenty of other supporters would love Cale Hooker
I don't have a problem signing Hooker but if he is to be played at Full back he isn't worth $600K as I said . Name a fullback on that sort of money.
