So he should be. Tweedledum and Tweedledee have promised the earth with their list management model, and he's looking at it and going 'wtf'?

That's not fair, since when did they promising the earth - though I did hear a rumour that they promised the most complete squad of skinny HBFers ever assembled. In fairness they've given it a pretty good shot.

As to Hooker, clearly Ross made some impression on him for Cale to bother to call him and all, so we were clearly in the mix at some point. And no doubt RTB is annoyed at our lack of KPPs, but he seems like the consummate realist to me, I don't think he's blowing up as much as some people around here are. But yeah, we're all a bit peeved it's come to this.

So I just need to get all this into perspective, any help is appreciated.

1. We can't attract non WA born and bred players to our club?
2. We can't attract WA born and bred players to our club?

Am I on the right track here?

So Hooker is effectively now getting close to $1,000,000.00 per season now due to that extra payment?

No wonder he decided to stay.
Money do talk, help fighting out of wooden spoon don't . he can always come home after ending his football career with the money he earn.

If I'm not mistaken some of the settlement pay has to be included in the clubs salary cap.
I thought that was the amount paid as payment for season 2016 as under ASADA code the club can't pay them.

So they will pay them "compensation" and that will be under the cap. The dangerous workplace and defamation settlement would be much bigger.

Is there any truth to the rumour that Essendon are paying a settlement to the re-signing as a way of a signing bonus outside their salary cap?

I'm guessing the loss of income will have to be included in the clubs salary cap but anything else eg: reputation damage, mental anguish etc gets covered by the clubs insurance company.

I just understand his frustration. Our list is a shambles.

Maybe it's the Ross Lyon style of football that's putting players off.

Choosing between Hawthorn (for example) and Fremantle might be like choosing between working for Google and working down a coal mine in the players minds.

Forwards want to kick goals they don't want to lay tackles. Mayne actually said that he prefers to lay tackles than kick goals, in one interview. If I hear talk of Ballantyne's forward pressure one more time ....

The emphasis on defence was highlighted when Ryan Crowley won our F&B for his tagging.

IMHO the high water mark in Lyon's tenure was the Preliminary Final in 2013 against Sydney. Watching this I thought "How long can our players sustain this style of play". It was only a matter of time before the players physically got worn out mentally and physically.

The fact is, the most attacking teams win premierships. Hawthorn and Geelong have been the most attacking teams and for that reason they are always contenders.

We have had the best ruckman feeding the best mid-fielder(s) supplying (arguably) the best key forward who was surrounded by the (arguably) the best small forwards ... and we still couldn't kick big scores.

Attacking coaches are like attacking forwards. They are a bit unpredictable and they are thinking short term, not long-term. I'm pretty sure Leigh Matthews only worked on one year contracts because he didn't know when he would get sick of it. Clarkson spends most of his time with the Hawthorn board trying to reduce his salary. He has done that since Day One. Malcolm Blight could never be pinned down to a coaching job and neither could Mark Thompson really.

Not sure if this is the case but I am sure the opposing clubs would be using this as a part of their persuasion.

It isnt a matter of who pays, its that they do.

Sign this five year deal for $800,000 a year and we settle the compensation at $1,000,000 right now.

Or go somewhere else and we fight for every dollar in court.
