Doesn't Grimes take kick outs for the demons?

Pick ~35-40 for Morton is all i would be prepared to offer. But im really don't rate him. I believe he can play a role as a good stopper and take some hard match ups which most other players cant do. But i wouldn't be giving away to much for a player i see playing his best footy as a negater.

Grimes is a decent kick, but his strength is undoubtedly one on one contests and contested work in general (including marking).

He can be very creative in the midfield.
Is there room in the melbourne midfield for Grimes?

The demons have plenty of good young midfielders and i actually think i would prefer Grimes off a half back flank.

Sylvia, Trengove, Mckenzie, Gysberts, Scully??, Davey and Moloney seem like they have plenty of midfielders and Grimes ability to read the play, win one on one contest across half back and deliver by foot makes him a better prospect down back IMO.

Except he doesn't have good ability to deliver by foot. That's what Tapscott's for. Grimes is more a rich man's Nick Maxwell type if anything. People assume he has good kicking because he plays off of half back and was a high draft pick without actually watching him. He actually doesn't.

good summery of him, poor kicking but reads the play VERY well and takes a good grab

So, you're saying pick 15-20 for Sylvia?
and Gumbleton. If we were to trade pick 15 + Gumbleton to a club in need of a forward than i would think we could get a pick of about 5-8 in return which is what i feel Sylvia is about worth. Gumbleton showed a fair bit last year and i still think could make it and have a solid impact at AFL level.

Would rather Sylvia than a teen draft pick and a player who'll make 'a solid impact'
Fair enough, thats your opinion and i certainly can see why you think that. Gumbleton still has the characteristics of becoming a really good CHF however his body certainly doesnt look like allowing him to reach his potential. I rate Sylvia very highly and he is an absolute certainty to stay if Scully leaves and could even demand more money.

The thing with a teen pick is you can get both ends of the spectrum. An absolute A grade star like a Rioli, Fyfe, Bastinac picked in that range from quick memory or a player that a good average footballer. Ill use Grigg, Monfries as an example of that. But you also must think your going to get probably 10-12 years from them instead of 5-6.

Gumbleton's value is next to nothing, about the same as Morton really. I said earlier that Morton would be worth a late first rounder, I think I was wrong. No club would be willing to throw a high pick (or good player) for nqr talls like Morton and Gumbleton.

There's always room for good midfielders. Grimes was a gun midfielder in the u18's and i think he has played roughly 3 games of midfield for MFC and in those three games he has ended with stress fracture, stress fracture, broken navicular bone.

I have no doubt Grimes would be a leading our midfield if his body didn't fail him.
