Cale Morton - Superb

Yeah, I always thought his kicking in the U18 comp. was exceptional. I never saw him, but from all reports he was very good in that area. I guess its easy to under-estimate the step up to AFL and its pace for fans such as ourselves.

Having said that, the ability and potential is there. He just needs to acclimatise to the big league and once this occurs we should have a fantastic player on our list, perhaps even the superstar we are currently lacking.

Its only his first year, I know he was taken at pic number 4 but here is some comparrasions to the 3 before him taken in the draft after this round.

Cale= 3 goals 26 disposals at 65% eff

Trent Cotchin= 0 goals, 13 disposals, 62% eff

To be fair to Cotchin on the weekend, they were playing Geelong at the top of their game (I was there, 2 games of footy and lots of beer = :thumbsu:) I'll save my judgement for Morton til after this week when he lines up against Enright or Milburn or Corey or Bartel and still racks up 26 disposals.

I just hope he stays injury free and builds up a tank that can rival someone like Goodes. Become a Brownlow winner by just torching opponants with pure athleticism. Too tall for midfield opponants, and too quick for bigger defenders. Modern day footballer.

In Round 3 Cale had 22 touches and 2 goals against Geelong.

Maybe I was watching the wrong Cale Morton but the one i saw couldn't hit the side of a barn for the first 3 quarters. Hardly superb.

Having said that he showed some real poise and class in the last term, if he can produce 4 quarters of that then I will be willing to grant him superb status.

I don't really care that Morton's not always using the ball very well, it's his first season and were on the bottom of the ladder so if he f__ks up it's doesn't matter to much, it's not like it's going to cost us a spot in the finals.

The things i'm happy about are watching him play that first game against geelong or the game against adelaide or parts of the game on the weekend. Seeing what he can do in those games makes me think that he was a good choice at pick 4, not justifying using the pick on him but starting to. That plus him needing time in the gym and hearing things like him winning all the endurance running during the pre-season.

All of those things, i'm happy with what we've seen of Morton so far. Not superb yet, but looks like he could be better then that

I think disposal should improve across the board as we get bigger bodies around the ball and create more time and space (with experience and maybe a few additional personnel). A few more options up the ground help decision making and disposal also. I'm wrapped Cale is finding the footy.

Agree with the above, superb for an 18y.o. first year player, but just good for anyone else.

If Morton doesn't get the Rising star nomination this week then i've got NFI, he's earned it before (Hello, adelaide game!!) and been shuned, so he should get it this week.

To be fair Gavin Urqhart of the kangas has been much more consistant and was superb (since we are throwing that word around for no particular reason) on the weekend.

Urqhart probaley deserves one for what he has done over the last 8 games on a consistant basis compard to cale.

But Cales games against the cats in round 3 was better than any urqhart has played so far this season

Watching the footy flashback today, I reckon Morton is a dead ringer for Keith Greig. Big statement, but you can see how good he can be.

He did slot a goal from 50 with no troubles on the weekend. I have no doubt he can become a player equally as good as Cam Bruce (when Bruce was good), what I'm hoping for is he can be Adam Goodes level or better!

His kicking is getting better but his big asset is his evasive skills and endurance for a guy who is 192cm.

Some people say play him at CHF, don't be ridiculous. He could be our number one midfielder as early as next year. He's only 19 this year as well.

Scary.

He is one of those players that could go either way. He could become a superstar, or he could become another Cameron Bruce - good, but not great.

For God sake, let's hope it is the former.

Cameron Bruce has never been the same since that tackle from Brent Guerra that screwed his collarbone or was it shoulder? Bah can't remember.

Man Morton has it all. He should be a jet. Anyone still concerned about his kicking check out his U-18 youtube videos to see how good his kicking can be. It has the potential to be elite.

what do you think his final and permanent playing position will be when he is fully developed?

thats something i've always wondered, I reckon he will eventually play as a tall forward once he bulks up, and occasionally run around on a wing, similar to richo's role but spending more time up forward

He'll be the best winger in the competition.

Midfield/wing and might drift forward, but he should never play as a tall forward.
