In all honesty id prefer Cotchin.

I havent seen much of Morton but what I have seen hasent been super impressive, not enough that I would comfterbly put him ahead of Masten. I wouldnt actually put either of them ahead of the other one at the moment either.

Masten is building as another poster mentioned. His output this year is slightly better than what he produced last year, and if we keep getting games into him by his 4th-5th year he will be a top line midfielder. I dont think it will be a fast progression though, he wont suddenly start to dominate next year or anything.

Unless of course his OP has restricted him in the same fashion it did Judd so that he will struggle for two years before he totally over comes it and proceds to burst out.

Well obviously at this stage its Morton by a mile. Guy is racking up possessions and showing what an athlete he is with his gut running and ability to sidestep and so forth. He's going to be a good player, not a superstar though. I see Morton as basically the classic utility like Cam Bruce, Adam Goodes or Anthony Koutapapadopolousmetriousiracusa or whatever his name was...

Not sure I can comment on Masten, haven't seen him much (I imagine few WCE players have seen Morton either) but I will note that it has taken 5 years for Colin Sylvia to show anything, he had bad OP as well, and now he looks like being an absolute champion, following 4 years of most Melbourne fans wanting him traded. So you know, you never know.

After watching Masten last night, I am quite happy with Melbourne's selection of Morton. Masten has a great ability to find the ball, but has some pretty average disposal. I don't see any great penetration in his kicking either. That isn't to say he won't be a great player, but I think Morton will be better.

I don't know, have you got shit in your eyes?

Picked the wrong bloke buddy

more quality, i am speechless.

if we wanted to play the 'who is the better player out of 2 young unproven players' game i could just say that since naitanui's debut was greater than watts then clearly you stuffed up your no.1 pick.

it's plain and simple, naitanui > watts.

but that would be stupid, wouldnt it?

Masten butchered it last night, but he does put his head over it and he does win his own footy.

But at 180 (?), slow across the ground and without good foot skills, I'd have to lean Morton. I don't rate the way he plays his footy, but he runs his arse off and might be able to improve his kicking in time.

Not according to champion data. The only way Naitanuis debut was greater then Watts was in skin colour and hair style, thus creating more excitement.

Lets fact it, big black guys playing AFL are exciting, we all know it. Just wait until Jurrah comes in, 11 goals in the past 3 weeks in the VFL:thumbsu:

You lost me when you said he was slow. Are you for real? IIRC he had a top 10 time ever in the short distance sprints at draft camp. Hes very quick of one step.

His disposal really wasnt that bad last night. It was just bad in the last quarter. First half he had 1 clanger from his 14 disposals which is good going

I thought he was fine by foot the majority of the time except with his shots on goal where he was woeful. Has been very poor in front of goals at AFL so far ... good assist player, but needs to finish of much better in front of the sticks ... 4 goals 12 behinds + quite a few OOTF.

Pace is fine at full capacity, but I wouldn't call it either a strength or weakness ... Embers, he definitely wasn't top 10 but his 20m time pre-draft was a touch under 3s .

You're joking right? Do you really need to be told why stats without a context to place them in are nigh-on useless?

As for the skin colour remark, you are reaching. Natanuis debut was more exciting for a variety of reasons. You can't tell me Watts showed what Nat did last night, and you wouldn't expect to, as they will be very different players. I'm noticing some serious insecurity being shown by some Demons supporters (note: just some) about the Watts/Nat decision, and you are top of the list.

Champion Data rankings are the best way to determine how good a player played in a particular game. That's fact.

I'll name those reasons: He's big, black and he can jump high.
If Vickery was black and Naitanui was white it would all be Vickery this Vickery that.

All i'm doing is stating the facts.

Edit: I don't even know why we are arguing about Naita and Watts in this thread. Maybe we should look at anti.?

Yeah that would be really stupid because Morton has played 30 games and Masten 11, with an extra year at being at an AFL club so we are in a far, far greater position to judge them and their future than we are Watts or NN with their solitary game.

I can't believe I actually had to make that distinction for you
