Caleb Serong

Can't think of a player cleaner below his knees. Ability to get it on the boot purposely with half a milisecond of space.

Good contested mark and a long goal on the weekend(and the spin), bow's got strings

Special, as we all know

N.B just watching the CH7 coverage of the post game; was having a good chat with Reid, seemed pretty friendly but as they parted ways to shakes others hands Reid made a comment and Caleb came back full chested and flat lipped, was smoothed out but I liked it, Alpha lol

If i have 1 area he needs to work on is goal kicking.

He is probably our new Lachie Neale.

Neale had 51 goals after 100 games - Serong only has 25 goals and kicked 36 behinds.

So thats the next level Caleb needs to get to is impacting the scoreboard more.

When i mean impact just nailing the chances he gets.

Lachie Neale started as a small forward at freo though remember.

That's true

Since the bye Serong has kicked a goal in each game except Richmond and that was coming off a 20 game streak of not kicking a goal.

I still feel Lachie was more damaging with the scoreboard when he got a sniff at the same age when the playing in the middle. In traffic and stoppage he could nail snaps that most struggle with.

Up until the Alice Springs match Serong had kicked 9.23 since the start of 2022 which was 55 games.

Its a small thing but yeah its one area we needed improvement and Serong is kicking 1 match basically in the back half of the year.

So maybe its been rectified but yeah moving forward you would hope Serong & Brayshaw are eyeing off kicking 12-15 goals a season & around that mark and getting more bang from buck from there opportunities they get.

Yeah Neale def has more class I think. His disposal is much better, both passing and shooting at goals.

Serong is much tougher though. I feel like Neale can almost just give up on games once he is getting tagged, Serong won't. Serong is a contested beast, breaking that 20 disposals per game record is a testament to that. Even just last week Lachie only had 18 disposals against Sydney.

If Serong can close the gap in class of disposal though and kick a few more goals he could end up being the best midfielder in the comp.

Serong is almost untaggable. Bit like a Mitchell in his prime. Think Serong has both Neale and mitchell covered in terms of toughness. Its amazing how thick he is around the legs, chest, core. Brayshaw too has pretty much a mans body now and it shows. Think youngy is still a couple of preseasons away.

He the ultimate footballers footballer. Sustained excellence every week but still striving to improve in tiny increments every week.
Put on a hard tag? He'll just block at every stoppage and we run away with it. Oppo coaches would lose a lot of sleep over this one.
This is what I love about Serong, if he's getting tagged he doesn't get frustrated and drop his bundle like a lot of other players do. He's constantly asking himself 'how can I use this to our advantage?'.

Still underrated but he's starting to get recognition over East. He's been a gun for a while and should poll well for the brownlow.

I hope so - I have a multi from the start of the year with Serong for the Brownlow and Freo as premiers :p Only threw a tenner on it

He's a bit like Wines in 2020. Team won heaps of games and was the clear best player in the middle = Brownlow.

Although Andy might be stealing votes in the 2nd half of the year.

This is at least in part game plan. Since the bye we've been rotating the mids forward more, 5 mins a quarter each or thereabouts (varies according to matchups, opposition, individual form, etc.). Obviously that doesn't necessarily explain the improved accuracy, but it's partly why he's getting more shots on goal, which improves his chances of kicking 1 a game.

You are right, but I believe that of late Longmuir has been resting him in the forward pocket just like the old style rovers. If they do play him like that, he should start to kick more goals.I am sure he played there for short stints on Saturday night.

Nice multi - good to be still in it this far in! I've got a nice return coming for the 7/2 I got on us making finals at the beginning of the year. Didn't think the top 4 odds were good value. For those who subscribe to the notion that bookmakers are good judges, I've been offered a pretty good cashout on Freo being finalists since about the bye.

At one centre bounce Serong was at full forward.

$4.50 to make the 8 was way overs, I thought we were 50/50 and should have been around $2-$2.50. The $16 to make top 4 looks great value now too.

I distinctly remember Twomey talking up his ability forward as a junior, so no doubt it is in there.

He'll probably have a couple of seasons where he kicks 15-20 goals over the journey.

If Johnson and Erasmus become very good AFL midfielders, which is a big IF at this stage, Serong will be able to play that 60/40 mid/forward role.

He ll be the leader by round 5.
Stagnated a bit through the middle of the season.
Won’t be surprised if he’s top 3 at this point. Ladder position and wins definitely help
