And then on-trade your old 2nd round pick to Adelaide for Hudson? Possibly. We did the same thing last year with Aker and McDougall, who were packaged together for the cost of our original 2nd round pick last year.
Secondly, any draft pick acquired through trade has to be utilised, so technically speaking, it can't just be Pick 567. Any pick we get for Callan will be late in the draft, but usable all the same.
I believe this rule has been changed for this year, as it was recognised by the AFL to be a barrier to players like Callan finding new clubs, without actually having any positive function.
In other words, you can indeed take whatever nominal pick you like for Callan, if all you want to do is let him go elsewhere.
Just heard on the news that the Hudson to Bulldogs deal has been done, they didn't go into detail, so since that's done, you'd think this would progress now.
I don't think we were actually looking to get anything for Callan. I think he wanted to go to the Doggies and they wanted him, and I don't think the club had a problem with him going there. The trade rules stop him from just signing for them so we had to trade for something, won't be surprised if we don't even use the pick.
It would've been nice to get a 2nd round pick upgraded or something though, Callan is no hack.
