We don't need Callan Ward. Removing his history to our club to one side and if he was a F/A (so didn't cost anything in terms of a trade) then yes we would snap him up. But our inside mid stocks (particularly for the future are better than most). He just ain't needed in comparison to a ruck or some more high quality KPPs.

Not to mention we always draft well in terms of inside mids. Its our spine/ruck stocks thats always been the big ??

FWIW I think 99% would argue Stringer is a better player than Ward. And yes I mean right now as one is an AA and the other is not.

Right now, Ward has Stringer covered comfortably for mine. Stringer could go past him soon though.
Much easier getting in the AA side as a forward compared to a Mid too FWIW.

No way. Plenty of mids have been named as flankers over the years to fill them into the AA side.
Stringer is a freak, he's far more valuable to us than Ward - but Ward is absolutely A grade and I'd love to have him back. Not sure we could come to terms (contract & trade) to make it happen, especially given a side like Carlton with much more cap space and better picks would be able to satisfy trade and contract demands better.

Ward left us because he got a better offer, fair enough. No problem with that, footys a business, make hay while the sun shines. If he wanted to run away from the shemozzle at Olympic Park who could blame him. Take the cash and run home Callan, if not us then Carltank, but FFS not Hawthorn, sick of them recruiting primed stars.

Hes a star, he deserves to be treated as such, Sydney ignores AFL (generally) so come home to Melbourne and bask in some adoration. Id welcome him back if it didn't cost us too much, which it would. Given that were currently very well stocked for mids Id rather see scarce resources directed at rucks/backs. Were on track, lets stay on track.

Would be your best player IMO, Bont and Stringer could go past him but round 1 2017 it would be him then maybe Libba. Every side can do with a Callan Ward.
Didn't realise Ward was AA or even nominated for AA...oh wait

Anyway I do think he is a very good player - just not needed in our side anymore. Like I said I'd be happy to take him back if he came cheap, but not if he'd cost a lot (which he would) as he just doesn't fill a need for us.

Don't want ex number 14 anywhere near the club again, he took the money and ran so he can rot up there in Sydney with the bogans
This is ironic on so many levels. You do know the area your team's based in is also where the majority of Melbourne's bogans are based?

Do you also forget Tom Boyd: dogs a club who invested their first pick after 12 months, also for the money.

Picken and Wallis had great years but Ward is infinitely better than both. Don't give me this shit about not wanting him back, if blokes like Murphy, Morris, Boyd didn't want him back because he upset them 5 years ago then they would be much more selfish than Ward (giving up better possibility of a flag because their feelings were hurt). We all know they would be happy to take him on, he isn't a Jake Carlisle or Colin Sylvia who would "not live up to the teams culture, expectations or values off the field" or whatever shit is spun these days. He also isn't a Suckling/Adcock type top-up, he's a genuinely good competitive inside beast.

Anywho, I'd be extremely surprised if he leaves next few seasons. Seems to be settled in the interim in Sydney.

I'm surprised no one has really done this yet.

Ward is a prime candidate to go to GWS and return. He played 60 games at the Dogs then joined GWS the year he turned 22. This is his 5th season with the Giants and he's added a lot of physicality and on field leadership to the club for what will be by the end of the year 100 games - and he's still only 26 this year. He's probably got another 100 left in him after that.

I don't think he owes GWS any more for the money they've paid him during his time there. He's given them 5 good years of service and if he wants to return to Victoria and finish his career he should be given the club's blessing. Obviously they'd be disappointed but he's not some kid they spent years developing who wants out at the first fat contract coming out of Victoria. He's an established player who (for a good paycheque of course) sacrificed a couple of years of his career to lose by 10 goals most weeks to help establish a fledgling club in NSW.

Judging by some of these posts Ward is quite possibly one of the most overrated players in the league.

He's B+ vanilla. Good leader and tries hard but just meh.
Jeez, what's that make Boyd then?
