Callan Ward was BOG for mine yesterday, great to see him fit and firing, is there a tougher young player in the comp?

Got bashed from pillar to post and bounced straight back up every time.

Really hoping we don't lose him to GWS, super important player to the club, once the current group of older players retire.

Anyone hear anything r.e. contract renewals??

questionable hairdo though

in all seriousness, i think this is what all doggies fans expected of him at the start of last season. he had a strong finals series and it's fantastic to see him carry that form into this season

Would love to see him stay but as good as he is we have plenty of his type. Cross, Boyd, Libba, Wallis, Reid, and Higgins are all in the same mould. Addison and Picken also offer some similar qualities. If he goes and we get good compensation it may not be the worst thing in the world, particularly if we have to pay through the nose to keep him.

Cross and Boyd are in their late 20s, so where's our team at in 3-4 years?

Addison and Picken are just as hard but don't have the same class when disposing of the ball.

Reid is perennially injured.

Libba has played 2 games, Wallis 0.

So that really leaves us with Higgins...

And Cooney and Griffen. We aren't short on players who can win a clearance.

Don't want to lose him but we're becoming a bit one paced. Would hate to end up paying over the odds for him.

I wouldnt have had him BOG but noticed he is one that wins more hardball that outside ball again today. When you look at % between the both for our mids he has the best hardball %...

Must be the confidence he has with that helmut he has been doning this season :D

Can't believe those who have said he wouldn't be a big loss :-0 Considering the limited games he's played, it's completely obvious to me that he'll continue on his upward path to become one of the premier polished hard nuts in the game. He is a very unique player and in my opinion will one day captain the club. Though I doubt he'd leave the club, everything should be done to be sure he remains at the Whitten Oval.

While I could not agree with him as BOG against Brisbane, I do believe he will be a very good player.

He does go in hard and natural development should see him become a very good midfielder.

His goal was a big improvement on his kicking last year and hopefully indicates he is well over the OP problems.

Yes the ward kiddie was good again yesterday, but not BOG, he still needs to get better when presenting an option and could read they play better ie when get the ball and when to split, didn't get to much from the umps either as for the hair it's a wig, isn't it

Well off being BOG for mine but he played well. Love his bash and crash but he really needs to develop a running game to his armory. He'll be a lot more dangerous if he does. At the moment he tends to try and break through rather than evade. Not only will that will catch up with him physically, opposition players know he is going to take them on so they are better prepared to tackle him.

On his hairdo.....it makes him look much skinnier. Liked the shaved look better...he looked more menacing.

Love the way he gets his hands on the ball and he's one of the toughest young players I've ever seen play for us but his disposal under pressure really hurt at times both against Brisbane and Essendon. If he can learn to take the best possible option (which he has in the past) then he'll be a real weapon in the Hayes/Selwood mould.

On a related note, Polkinghorne getting away with a reprimand for his late hit on Callan is beyound a disgrace.

He won't go to GWS. He grew up in the west and still plays his footy in the west.

Why would he want to move to the dump that is Greater Western Sydney and spent the next three to four years of his career playing in a team that will get hammered week after week? Makes no sense at all.

Ward is a bulldog through and through and has a strong link to the club. He will never be one to leave.

Id expect him to be one of the players who we look at to be our next captain. I believe GWS will go after key postion players and id be more worried bout Jones

I hope they stay away from Ward. What happened to Gold Coast on the weekend is a pretty firm warning to any youngsters thinking of heading to GWS.

I think Jones is pretty safe. He's promising but still has a lot to prove. I'd say they will only target players who are firmly in the 22 of their original side. I think he'll be veery good but he has a fair bit to work on before becoming a target for other sides.

Just watched the reply, Griff BOG comfortably.

To reiterate what has been brought up, how did the hit on Ward get disregarded so easily? The raising of the arms was completely avoidable. You could see malice and intent quite clearly. If it was anyone else, the result could well of been considerably different. Just because Ward, Cross and Picken can absorb the big knocks, doesn't mean they should be treated with less discretion.

Its about time you dropped "the Ward kiddie" tag and show some respect for his age and ability.

Could you imagine the reaction if it'd happened to St Nick?

I've got a feeling that "that Ward Kiddie" will be around for quite some time, just like "Big Babie Davis" in the nba. It means no disrespect, it is just a nickname.....it is a loving reference, not a disrespectful comment.....just my opinion......

Bloody oath. Punched Ward in the jaw and did not get cited!

Was cited, but deemed not to warrant further investigation.
