I think we definitely need a tall, strong marking FF. Kruz can take CHF, surrounded by Yarran, Betts, Garlett. That is a very handy forward line, now if only we can find another tall up there.

He wouldnt get a game anywhere else, if we are serious about winning our next flag we need to start cutting the deadwood.

I have no idea why people think you automatically cut players you think won't be in a premiership 22. List improvement is not instantaneous, it is incremental. We simply do not have the picks to fix all of our problems in one go.

Do we really want to delist a dozen players and have several players on a two year contract after getting taken at 100+ in the national draft, on the off chance that one of them may be a late bloomer and bear fruit? No, we stuff up our depth, stuff up player development as our onfield performance goes backwards.

O'hAilpin types might not be flag material (history suggests far less accredited players have won flags btw), but they serve a purpose in that they hold up their end enough to allow others to do their job and help win some games. Having a dozen quality players and a whole lot of late draft filler hurts the team and will disillusion the quality players who need the team to be moving forward to give them the incentive to stay in many cases. Players are just like us ... they want hope.

Irish has really impressed me, we have missed him the last few weeks. Much better option than Fisher.

Re: Calling all experts...Trim the Carlton Squad List.

Ok I am bored, but I have been reading so many threads on here by the experts. Here is the Carlton team list, now what I want to know is who should be kept and who should go. We obviously have passengers, soft, unaccountable leaders and generally players who are just dead wood. If you were the one trying to shape our future with the list we have at this point in time, who would you keep and who would you send packing?

1 Andrew Walker
2 Jordan Russell - Much maligned, has he improved? Skills aren't up to it.
3 Marc Murphy
4 Bryce Gibbs
5 Chris Judd
6 Kade Simpson
7 Adam Bentick - Afraid for him, injuries have really held him back.
8 Matthew Kreuzer
10 Richard Hadley - What's going on here?
11 Robert Warnock
12 Mitch Robinson
13 Chris Yarran
14 Brad Fisher - Can't kick 40 meters, not sure if he will be with us.
15 Steven Browne
16 Shaun Grigg
17 Setanta O'hAilpin
18 Paul Bower
19 Eddie Betts
20 Rhys O'Keeffe
21 Mark Austin
22 Shaun Hampson
23 Adam Hartlett - Unfortunately I think this is goodbye.
24 Nick Stevens - I would try for a trade, if not it's goodbye.
25 Brendan Fevola
26 Joe Anderson
27 Dennis Armfield
28 Cameron Cloke - Does he have a future with us?
29 Heath Scotland - Very worried with Heath, up & down 09
30 Jarrad Waite
31 Jordan Bannister
32 Bret Thornton
33 Ryan Houlihan - Lots of question, is he a passenger?
34 Simon Wiggins
35 Caleb Tiller
37 Jake Edwards - Hasn't had many chances, won't be on our list.
40 Michael Jamison
44 Andrew Carrazzo - Trade bait? No takers? Disposal skills.
45 Aaron Joseph
46 David Ellard
Chris Johnson - Picked up for his kicking skills, but has be impressed??
Darren Pfeiffer
Greg Bentley - Elevated, but question marks on him?
Jeff Gartlett
Lachie Hill
Luke Stanton
Sam Jacobs - Elevated in 09, lots of potential.

So take the time, and consider how you could shape this list.

Bentick, Hartlett, Edwards Delist.
Stevens try to trade.

Lots of trade bait on the list, but tbh nothing that clear cut.

Wiggins, Scotland, Fisher, Cloke could all survive another year.

Re: Calling all experts...Trim the Carlton Squad List.

Bentick
Hartlett
Bannister
Edwards
Wiggins

I expect the above to be delisted. Wiggins may stay for 1 last year.

Obviously I'd shop all of the above around during trade week, and if we get something for any of them then that's fantastic, but I doubt any club would be interested.

Fisher, Stevens and Scotland should all be put up for trade. The only player that would generate interest would be Fisher but after a poor year his value will have decreased significantly. If no trade can be arranged, they are either contracted or too useful to just delist so they can be kept for another year, which will be a huge year for all 3 of them.

Cloke and Hadley need to finish the year off well but would be next in line to go. Pretty confident both will be kept, though.

Chris Johnson would be next cab off the rank. He'll be kept for another year, without a doubt.

With regards to the rookie list:

Hill - gone. Don't knoe the story with him but he seems to have disappeared completely.
Pfeiffer - gone. Injury will probably prove to be the end of him. Doesn't show enough, needs a fantastic finish to the season to have any chance of being retained.
Ellard - a tough one. Really deserves a shot as he's had a good season in the reserves. Could well be elevated but I reckon it'd be worth us delisting him with a view of re-drafting him to the rookie list.
Jacobs - retain. Shown more than enough to keep him on the rookie list for another year. Could be elevated but I'd wait another year.
Garlett - retain. Pocket rocket who has shown more than enough to suggest that he has a bright future. No need to elevate him just yet.
Joseph - elevation is an absolute certainty.
Bentley - retain. The new whipping boy of supporters has done well to work his way into the seniors and really hasn't been that bad at all. Definitely will be retained for another season.
Stanton - retain. Not sure how he's going but just got a feeling we'll keep him on for a 2nd year. Athletic talls are gold if they work out.

5 deletions (maybe 1 or 2 more via trade), 1 elevation (possibly 2), leaving at least the minimum 3 spots for new draftees. Looks about right to me.

Trading may change all that, though.

Delist: Hartlett, Bentick, Pfeiffer, O'hAilpin, Bannister, Edwards
Tradebait: Fevola, Gibbs, Fisher, Cloke, Hadley, Hampson, Scotland, Stevens

You want to trade Gibbs? And what/who would you ask for him? I agree with the rest, but I don't get we would get much for them.

Irish has really impressed me, we have missed him the last few weeks. Much better option than Fisher.

The cold is obviously affecting your comprehension skills Alpha

Nah don't need to do that, but 5 or 6 need to go. Doubt they will as we won't get anything good for them.

Re: Calling all experts...Trim the Carlton Squad List.

1 Andrew Walker
2 Jordan Russell - Worth some more time tries hard - I like that
3 Marc Murphy
4 Bryce Gibbs
5 Chris Judd
6 Kade Simpson
7 Adam Bentick - Gone - Plodder thats isn't a great kick either
Matthew Kreuzer
10 Richard Hadley - Not sure why he doesn't get more of a run ?
11 Robert Warnock
12 Mitch Robinson
13 Chris Yarran
14 Brad Fisher - Trade -Can't kick and goes to ground easily, they run off him
15 Steven Browne - They got this one wrong I think- If you are small you need to be quick or just exceptional at finding the ball - One more year before decision to be fair but fear he may struggle
16 Shaun Grigg
17 Setanta O'hAilpin
18 Paul Bower
19 Eddie Betts
20 Rhys O'Keeffe
21 Mark Austin
22 Shaun Hampson
23 Adam Hartlett - List clogger - goodbye.
24 Nick Stevens - I think he should play predominately HF
25 Brendan Fevola
26 Joe Anderson
27 Dennis Armfield
28 Cameron Cloke - Gone - Not up to it
29 Heath Scotland - Deserves another year - Injured for parts
30 Jarrad Waite
31 Jordan Bannister
32 Bret Thornton
33 Ryan Houlihan - Should have been gone 3 years ago - One good season only ( Factual ) and been living on it ever since. Worst CFC player to get to 150 games in my memory
34 Simon Wiggins
35 Caleb Tiller
37 Jake Edwards - Gone
40 Michael Jamison
44 Andrew Carrazzo - Keep - he has a ticker - Plays for the jumper
45 Aaron Joseph
46 David Ellard
Chris Johnson - Skilled but soft - One more year to be fair
Darren Pfeiffer
Greg Bentley - Not sure - Showed glimpses
Jeff Gartlett
Lachie Hill
Luke Stanton
Sam Jacobs - Elevate.

There's my thoughts on your original discussed players.

I think we will give him another season, would be unfair to dump him after injuries. Especially since he has always busted his chops for us when we were at our lowest.

Question needs to be asked is Cloke gone?

Believe he should be TBH. Not required even as depth. We've got young developing talls all over the place and if Irish can continue his recent form he has to have saved his career at Carlton for the medium term. With time invested in Hampson can't see why he would be traded, Kruezer coming along, Warnock to come in, Waite to come back and all these guys are very mobile and the pace of the game probably going to get quicker if anything can't see how Cloke could possibly survive.

Leave him in the goal square?

Leave him in the goal square?

Don't reckon, tend to see hard leading forwards or big guys who can run as the way the game's going in terms of forward KPP's. Look at Jack Watts for example, reckon that's the future in front of goals. pack marking in front of goals is virtually done and dusted nowadays. Clokey is playing in the wrong era, should have played with his old man.
