Player Watch Callum Brown (Delisted 2022)

I think he should have had more midfield time whilst Beams and Treloar should have rested up forward more.
I agree with Beams but while Treloar's ball use and fumbles were horrific, we needed his energy around the stoppages. The others seemed to be just waiting back for things to happen.

Really depends who is not playing if Callum is in.

Sier, Greenwood for me are both far superior to what we’ve seen thus far from Callum.

Whilst different he reminds me of Paul Tuddenham. Looks fine in lesser grade but in seniors seems a peg or two below the grade to be a permanent fixture in the team.
At 20 years of age and 39 games, I still think that is too small a sample size at AFL level to determine how good the boy is. I predict the next year or two he will really come along at AFL level, cherry ripe if you like.

Some of the stuff he did last night was really good both in traffic and that crumb and goal. We just need to see more of it.

Already averages similar disposals per game as Mayne and Greenwood have the past couple of years. With similar opportunity this year Callum will move past both of them.

I wouldn’t have Treloar rest there as much as Beams but just more than what he did.

I hope so, but not on that performance last night. It’s back to the VFL I’d say, though I agree with those who say he should have had more inside minutes. Bucks relies too much on the old guard in the centre. Especially when things get tight. Adams back will help though.

IMO, Cal Brown is a lot like JT - except that JT is presently superior in almost every category. Cal certainly tries his heart out but I can't see the point of having both he and JT in the side together. For now they're too same-same and simply trying hard isn't enough in a team that has clear Premiership aspirations. You have to be able to add something significant to team performance.

If we want to develop another young mid/forward (in addition to DeGoey, Stephenson and Sier), then I reckon Daicos offers more X-factor, class, poise and upside than Cal Brown. But I don't see a spot for either in our 2019 Best 22.

Think we'll be sticking with him for more than just one crack in round 1, would be surprised if he isn't in the round 2 team especially with no one coming back from injury next week I believe. He was serviceable, nowhere near as many clangers as some of his teammates. Lack of minutes definitely making it harder to put in a strong performance that we are after.

Still comfortably outside the best 22 in my books however.

64% game time is really tough on him last night IMO.

I get the coaching staff wanted to back in our “star studded midfield (sic)” but what people forget is 64% was f all time on the ground and he did put us in front in the last.

The players that the coaches backed in failed in the centre......find another scapegoat people for that pathetic game.

It was a great snap and good positioning to be at Cox’s feet. Equally good was Cox perfectly palming the footy down to him.

He just looks so balanced and good when over ground balls in congestion. Hes going to become very difficult to shift off a ground ball. I reckon he'll become a ripper.

Maybe that's a result of his fitness?

Actually Maggie, he was easily our worst along with Varcoe.
The goal in the last qtr allowed him to save face a bit but he was terrible.
A midfielder and he only managed 9 possessions.
Varcoe ran harder than anyone. At the ground it was obvious. The mids did not move the ball fast enough.

His effort and intensity were definitely there, just didn't seem to have much of an influence.
Watching on TV we obviously don't get to see the bigger picture that those like you at the match do.

I can tell you mate there were multiple times in the game when he was clear. He also hits bloody hard.

Low possession player but he’s important.

Or maybe it isn’t?

Why did Bucks roll the dice with De Goey in the centre in the last?

He definitely wasn’t match hardened Kappa.

I would like to see this more often. Not fit enough for extended time but could work on the burst

Actually I didn't mind Varcoe's game.

The bottom line for me was that our top level players didn't stand up. They are the ones that bring others in.

Surely time on ground needs to be considered if judging him solely on possession count.

Possible, I reckon more likely it's just a result of being that 22nd man selected. Early last year he was getting more minutes than 64% game time. So his fitness would have had to have gone backwards for it to now be a body management thing
