Just coming from a Hawk poster who knows what it's like to be on the rise. I must admit I'm looking forward to seeing how the team performs this year.

The Burgatron tipped the Hawks to finish 5th before the start of last season. He was criticised by many but boy did he get it right. I think you guys will finish 8th.

Just one thing though, the way some are carrying on is only going to help the team self destruct. When we were in the bottom 4 prior to 07 we didn't even put a target on the number of games we wanted to win. It was more a case of ticking off performance indicators. So all this incredible hype can only inflate the players minds as to where they are really at.

There are so many good sides and the competition is so tight, I'm hoping we make the 8. Some fools on our site are already bookmarking top 4 and playing off in the big one.

So why do I care about what you guys say anyway?? Really, I don't. I think the comp is better with a competitive Carlton but all this hype is way over the top. Judd is a superstar but there is a long season ahead. If you make the 8 you should be ecstatic.

On SEN, some of you probably heard, when they were analysing who was going to finish where, they had Carlton finishing 4th. It amazes me how people think one person (Judd) can make that much difference. Anyway, good luck for 08. Very exciting for you guys and us. I think both our sides need to keep a lid on it though, still too young and inexperienced. I was more than happy just making the 8 and winning one pressure final was a bonus at this point.

Good post. I think you'll find most level headed Carlton fans are keeping a lid on it. Like most forums you cant stop the crazy people. Carlton have our fair share. If you read through some of the other posts on ladder and team analysis a lot of supproters put Carlton in the 9-14 bracket.

I think we'd all take 8th position for 2008 in a heartbeat considering the years we've had. I admire the Hawks, a terrific all round club who have built themselves back up again from a few years in the darknes. Your'e right about a few over unrealistic assumptions but you can't help but feeling excited being a Blue supporter with the addition of the games best player and the no.1 draft pick and a new coach. Perhaps a finals appearance isn't too unrealistic, who knows?

Lets hope we see in the next couple of years these two powerful clubs battling each other where they should be...at the top of the ladder.

Good post. It is hard to not get carried away, when we must remember, that on paper, the only addition to our team that will have a certain noticeable impact are Judd, and possibly Hadley.
However, i think that most Blues fans haven't gotten too carried away, as most fans have tipped us coming around the 12-9th mark by the end of the season, and don't expect us to be looking at a premiership for at least another few years.
There are always supporters who will get carried away with where they think their team will finish.

I think you'll find that the only reason for our excitement is the fact that there is a lot of hope eminating from the club and player group. This could hopefully lead to somewhat of a dynasty if it's nurtured properly.

As for ladder positions, no. of wins, etc. I haven't heard of any real targets apart from the masive improvement we expect over the next 2 years which is a minimum of what is expected.

Good post though and Hawthorn has set a prime example of what can be achieved via due process and making hard calls.....

Yeah, you've got to remember that our club has been down for a long time and we can see the light at the end of the tunnell.
At the moment, talk is cheap, but i think that our current Carlton team has the potential to push for a finals place, provided that our defence does well and we find one or two good ruckmen for the year.

And Stevens. Two quality midfielders will make a huge difference. But I agree, their is a lot of hype and people getting carried away, it's the off-season tho so it's too be expected. Personally, I'm hoping and believe we can pinch 8th spot if everything goes right, but anything above 12th/8 wins I'll probably be happy with.

Most of the carlton hype is manufactured by means of retalliation to trolls and nay-sayers.

Dont forget, we are the most hunted club in the league at the moment due to recent happenings (supposedly dodgy methods to recruiting judd/Dick prat being found guilty and fined $32 mil).

So when all this information is continually churned up, it creates a bit of a storm amongst our supporters and the rest.

We are seen as arrogant, but in its purest form, we are just excited and enthusiastic. In a troll-free thread, you will find that most calrton people like myself know that the hard yards are still ahead.

I will be happy with 8 wins this year, with an aim to play finals in 09.

Just one thing though, the way some are carrying on is only going to help the team self destruct.

Are you serious?!?!

On account of all of our overly enhusiastic and eager posts on Bigfooty about how many games Carlon will win we are actually causing Carlton to lose games?!?!?

But that's not fair!! No one told us that it would make Carlton lose games...is it too late to change it yet?!?!

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease...!!!

I think the hype is based on more than just Judd. The inclusions of Stevens, Hadley and even to a point Cloke, who can hold a KPP. A new coach, and a board that has produced miracles in its first year. Plus the hype around a possible 40,000 members, you can see how some people are a bit too excited!
But as has been stated above, most of us are not getting to far ahead of ourselfs! There is a long way to go. I would think 10th would be top marks and anything above would be bonus points. I would be a bit disappointed with less than 8 wins, but this year is more about bringing the group together. Developing the group that will steam roll the Hawks plan of two flags in five years:p

I think there is reason enough to be excited if you are a Carlton supporter. Chris Judd clearly leads that list, however, getting Hadley to the club as well, and some astute draft selections in Kreuzer, Browne and Armfield. The core group of kids are all doing a full pre-season, and with the return on Nick Stevens, why shouldn't we be excited?

I'm not saying that we'll play finals next year, but I really believe that 10 wins is achievable in 2008, should our form hold up, and we don't get injuries to key players.

there is a lot to be excited about , its not just the addition of Judd - its stevens , its the off field , its the draftees , its hadley , and Judd will provide more value to the team off the field and through training , morale etc than on it in games i think.

the lid is on - but gee its ready to blow off

there are 2 main points for next season

->Judd
->return of Stevens

there will be progress and players such as Murphy will really benifit from those two but thats as good as we can hope for, real progress. I like what HappyHawk has said. If Carlton can move out of the bottom 4 and be close to making the 8, that would hold us in good stead. Kruze may be a no. 1 pick, but he is big and they always take more time. We have Murph and Gibbs and they will improve and thats great but I think if the we were to aim for final in 09, that would be realistic and more in touch with what we can achive.

Our Defence is young. Not bad, but young and need time together to really gel, that gives the young mids another while together and all our young players another pre-season or to to harden up.

I think most supporters would be thinking finals(8-5) '09 hopefully.

You don't really expect these guys to have a significant impact in their first year do you??

From what I have read and seen of armfield, he has come through at an astonishing pace, he is well built and ticks all the boxes and is apparantly AFL ready.......have you heard something different ?

No, but to actually expect him to have a significant impact from day dot is a bit much. The guy has been there 5 minutes... it's very rare that a guy comes from nowhere and is able to cut the mustard, let alone impress in his first few games.

normally I agree, but he's a bit older, been inthe WAFL and will be a harder body. I'd expect debute earlier/have an harder body/tough impact but not so much scope for improvement.

Exactly.

If he gets a game early in the year he'll be about the same age Jamo was for his first game in Blue.

Armfield could be a surprise. If haven't seen them already, have a look at his highlights tape from when he was playing in the WAFL last year. Super quick, and does all the one-percenters. And, his form on the track couldn't be any more impressive.

Word is, is that he might even get a game round 1. Would quite easily release a Houlihan to play up forward. He really could be that dashing BP, or HBF that we have been crying out for for a few years now.

Browne will start the year with the Bullants, but I could see him playing about 5 games towards the end of the year.

Its not one person it is

- Judd + Stevens + Massive improvement from Murphy, Simpson, Fevloa (yes fev), Sentana etc.... which is why we will be good.
