Speculation Calsher Dear

Jeepers what a thread. I would take him happily, but I am pretty sure he's not on the table.

Outside chance he's injury prone and won't live up to the potential, but most likely a 200 gamer, and Hawthorn would be crazy to let him go.

Just cos hawks want to keep him doesn’t mean he wants to stay

Let’s see what a whole year in vfl does

Look im not ITK but my brother knows the Dear family, my impression is he's a Hawthorn nut like Ginnivan ( whose family I know even more distantly).

I know footy is a business but feel this one is pretty remote.

That said if I does happen youll look like a genius.

No surprise the family is hawks through and through given the dad playing for them

And beaut blokes, both brothers Paul and Greg. No arrogance at all, I think they had four or five flags between them.

Not a Hawks fan at all but I wish this kid well.

The 20 year old 195cm KPF is out of contract and can’t crack hawks best team atm

Hawks going with the 2 ruck set up plus chol and Lewis

One to keep an eye on as the year goes on

Recall he picked up a niggle late in preseason and is working back to full fitness.

Will get his opportunities. Good player.

Schubert looks pretty decent too.

He won't spend the entire year in the VFL.

Players get injured and drop off in form, get tired.

Gunston likely won't play every game.

He will get his chances.

Lol. The OP posts the same thread about any player coming out of contract.

Which isn't a criticism BTW. Fair question if a player hasn't re-signed.

If you throw enough darts some will hit the target. It doesn't mean you are a champion dart thrower.........or a genius.

He was listed as injured last week. Played today and kicked 2 goals for Box Hill.

I assume he will have a few weeks to work on his fitness and come in at some point. Then its on him to keep his spot.

Extremely unlikely to want out I would think.

His uncle a Hawks player, his sister a Hawks player, his late Dad a Hawks premiership player and Norm Smith Medallist.

Didn't take his footy all that seriously growing up, was not expected to be drafted and no other club wanted him. Hawks took him father son anyway with the last pick in the draft (and gave him games in his first year on the back of no VFL form). Gunston (who also lost his dad) took him under his wing and Dylan Moore gave up his number so Calsh could wear his dad's number.

Whilst I think he will get games anyway, I don't think a player like him would feel overly aggrieved if he didn't get a lot of games as a 20 year old KPP given all of the above. Especially when you consider that Gunston is 34, Chol nearly 30 and Lewis only just keeping his spot at the minute. I think the only thing that could drive him elsewhere is if both Schubert (1st rounder last draft) and McCabe (Easy BOG in the VFL in the only round so far) end up clearly ahead of him in the pecking order - which I think is unlikely.

Nothing is a certainly, but I doubt VERY much that Calsher would be looking to move on.

The connection he has to the club, and the emotion surrounding his dads untimely passing would make him far more likely to be a Hawk for Life, than to look elswhere.

Something would need to go horribly wrong for that to change (IMO Of course)

highly doubt calsher dear be leaving anytime soon but there no bigger name than kennedy at hawthorn and we all know where josh played his best footy.

Josh kennedy was a slow oversized mid when he left the Hawks, behind 5 better players. Recall though we were midway through a three-peat when that occured. Had some pretty good players at the time, so the move was of mutual benefit. Who knew what would happen, the beast he would become.. but he is for sure the one who got away.

Calsher has had a much more promising start (than Joey did) in his first 2 years, so I dun think we want him to go anywhere, and with Gunners at 34, the succession plan is nicely in place.

You have any idea of his history with the club? Father played in flags and won a norm. Died of cancer then we took a punt when nobody else wanted him. He just got his Dads number 13 too after Moore stepped aside for him.

Zero chance he will want to leave.

Hes 20. What a weird thread

You probably thought kennedy wouldn't leave too

what a weird post

he's not in the current best team so lets see if game time can be dangled as a carrot along with more money

Jon Ralph moments ago states the following about Calsher's future at the Hawks, "Selection is set to determine whether out-of-contract father-son Hawk Calsher Dear entertains growing interest from rivals as the young forward again starts the season outside of the senior side." Surely at 20 years of age he is not going anywhere and especially with an injury prone Lewis yet to string a decent amount of consecutive games together.

Dear just on the ramp up from a back bone stress injury he has had since he got drafted. Missed games in 24 and 25 related to this.

Don't think for one moment he isn't best 22 when fit.

We are just taking care of a 20 year old colt is all.

Ralph been sweeping the forums for a new story.

I mean the dude is being held out by a crafty veteran somehow in the best form of his career. He just has to be patient and either wait for Gunston to slip in form or retire.
Calsher knows he has to compete for a spot and has said as much himself.

But is Calsh willing to wait until he's in his thirties?
