****ing this. i was shattered when he got injured. for memory he polled 3 brownlow votes in each of the opening three or four games

I'm pretty sure it was actually 8 votes after the 3 games. Still amazing and clearly in the kind of form required to win the medal before that tackle especially when you look and see that Ben Cousins won the award with 20 votes.

Yeah I just checked - http://stats.rleague.com/afl/brownlow/brownlow2005.html

He picked up 2 votes in round 1 and was BOG for the next two. Then Guerra and that bloody tackle. How about his stats for those two games as well. Against the Bulldogs he had 24 touches and 5 goals and against Geelong he had 30 touches and 3 goals. I remember watching him then thinking he was going to be our superstar. A pity he never quite recaptured that start of '05 form.

Anybody remember those 7 goals he kicked against the Blues when we beat them by 100 odd points in 2004? I think a lot of people underestimate just how good he was at that period. Will be remember as a very good player in my opinion. Last few seasons haven't been anywhere near as good, but I remember him being one our most accurate kicks a few years back. Would never miss a target or shot at goal.

****ing Brent Guerra.

Bruce was amazing in 05, so frustrating that he got injured when he did.

Wasn't it just last season that Melbourne supporters were talking him up as one of the most effective, or better, CHF's in the league? Pretty sure there is a thread on it.

Going back to this bit, I'm going to agree with SJ05 here. I seem to remember a bunch of talk, not sure when, about Miller in a positive sense. I think it was about the middle of last season, and he had strung a number of games together and was leading all comers for lead-up marks, presenting really well, providing a target, all that CHF stuff. All of a sudden everyone was excited, calling him the replacement for Neitz, possibly even talk of being Captain.

Might have been 2008 though, not sure... and it's really only a vague memory.

I'm pretty sure it would've been 2008, as he had a decent patch towards the end of that year if my memory serves me correctly.

It couldn't have been 2009 though, surely not.

Ahh The Bruce in '05... i put a fair amount of money on him in round 3... :( boy was i sad about that!

Bump

So was the BF rumourmill just lucky or were they on to something here. Would love to know who the original source was.

Closin' her up. If anyone can answer RandB's question, post it in the other Bruce thread.
