Scape Goat The Cam Guthrie Echo Chamber

You must have missed the spell Guthrie had on Bont, you know, where he tore us a new one and almost got the Dogs back in the game.

Guthrie's game yesterday was rubbish. His defensive game was rubbish, his usefulness (when it happened) with the footy was purely circumstantial, in other words, if it fell his way, he picked it up and sometimes was effective. He had plenty of opportunity to win the footy during the long periods he had in the midfield, he failed most times.

His disposal tally for a mid, not good enough. 11 touches? WTF? You'd expect that from a rookie, not a 150 game senior player. In an open, high scoring game too? The only reason anyone is accepting this is we're winning, which in such an even competition is an idiotic contention.

We got beaten for long periods of the game in the midfield, I wonder if this would have happened if someone else was in there trying to actually win the footy rather than worrying about standing there with his arm around whichever opposition player is closest. This guy is almost always our worst mid, every week. He should be challenging Duncan at least, the reality is he's never played a single game as good as Duncan's yesterday.

Every game we give Guthrie is a wasted opportunity for the team / a youngster to grow into a the player he will never be.
Your perspective seems to reflect a really superficial stats based pov.
How do you know that he is not a designated player to run with opposition players? That he doesn't stop Bont is no crime- we were not winning the hitouts.
When Guthrie does get stats, you criticise their quality.
Duncan is off the leash while everybody targets Kelly, Danger and GAJ.
Not every player is out there to amass stats to justify their spot, or to appease your obsessional and pathological hatred . You even give him votes in your MVP you're so obsessed by him.
Get over it and accept the MC and most balanced supporters can see there is a role for him.

He seldom has eyes on winning the ball, he just grabs it in the event it falls his way.

This is pretty funny. So he doesn't bother trying to win the ball but by some miracle he's averaging more clearances than Selwood. How s**t are our other mids (all bar Kelly and danger) who are averaging less clearances than a guy not even trying to win the ball?

averaging more clearances than Selwood

No, he's averaged the same (.3 of a clearance more) as a guy (Selwood) who's played much, much less in the midfield this year. Parfitt is avg the same as Guthrie.

Constable has had 20 clearances in 7 games, so he's basically on the same level as Guthrie and Parfitt (avg 3.5 per game) too in that regard, yet he gains 50% more meters gained than Guthrie... while being a first game player with 7 games, Guthrie's nearly at 150.

But what of the quality? Lack of efficiency going forward? Lack of meters gained with them, incl. his touches?

No, you're obsessed with ME, with my perspective on Guthrie.

You get so frustrated too, don't you? I can tell.
Tbh, I am not obsessed with you, PB.
Just pretty clear that some of your posting is purely to get a reaction, and that's what BF is all about for you and it works. Interesting game.
Nobody should take our votes seriously- I don't as you can see- but giving 4 votes to a player you clearly don't rate and seemingly would prefer to be VFL- what's the point? The rest of your votes make sense. Intriguing.
It's not you I'm obsessed with, but our players, yes.

No mention here of Cam passing off to Duncan for the goal assist. Strange that. Seems a lot of over analysis of nothing going on to me.

"Guthrie is a good player"

Surely constable gets a run over guthrie after that weak effort. 2 clearances, 1 tackle. Didnt even look like he wanted it last night. In and under 3 times max then some stat padding cheap ineffective sideways stuff. Let the excuses begin...
Might need to actually see how Constable goes in the VFL first before declaring him a starter.

IF Guthrie's spot is in doubt, it might be Fog who gets a chance - was named an emergency, so might be closer to selection then Constable being recalled.

Alternatively, Guthrie doesn't lose his spot - wasn't our worse player & he's been good this season. He still had 17 disposals, so was getting in amongst it - for all we know, the coaches give him a tick for yesterday's game because he's been given a task to do & he's doing as required. Not everything is simply about numbers

I did get the impression he was given a different task but If you take out the numbers and look at his impact alone, what did he actually provide? A couple of link up hand passes and that’s it. He won’t be dropped as he’s Scott’s lovechild but he should be treated the same as any other player in the bottom 6.

Following Parker around as clueless as ever, until it's obvious his impact was zero.. then was benched for long periods.
And during those long periods being benched is when we won the clearances and got on top in the game kicking multiple goals on those occasions,as soon as the Wookie went back into the middle we were again vulnerable, also more noticeable in the second half Sydney were targeting Cam man to move the ball forward with good success, another step backwards by Guthrie, back to the two's lack of genuine effort.

Has to be mentioned, started with a following or defensive role on who arguably became the best player on the ground (Parker).

Contributed next to nothing in terms of effectiveness out of the middle despite 17 touches (as opposed to Duncan, Parfit, Kelly, Dangerfield), still contributing a poor meters gained stat no doubt. Still our worst midfielder, every week.

When Constable and Clark can contribute at least as much as Guthrie, playing him is a net loss. Simple as that.

He won’t be dropped as he’s Scott’s lovechild but he should be treated the same as any other player in the bottom 6.

Amen.
