I count many as in your squad. Fringe players wanting out is also bad, sure they want opportunities but you lose your depth.

Plus if you take a 2 year approach the numbers are alarming.

Blokes just want out of your club.

It's ok we experienced it at Fremantle for years. No one wants to play for a team with little identity.
Nope. We have an ever shrinking list size and cap with a ton of 1st rounders in the magoos.

We were always going to lose players

That's a fairly ignorant view of our list and the challenges faced in retaining players and players gaining enough opportunities to cement their spot in the top 22.

Treloar is best 22 and sunshine is likely best 22 but outside that guys leaving for opportunity is not alarming at all. They leave with the best wishes of the club.

Sunshine isn't leaving for opportunity he wants to leave cause his grubby manager wants a payday.

We will be just fine for depth. Pickett/ahearn/marchbank/downie/Kennedy/hopper/Stewart/Steele will provide plenty of depth next year.

The fact posters are knocking back 2 first rounders for a guy who himself was a first round selection at 14.

Yeah he had an outstanding start. That's acknowledged and hence the potential and his price at where it's at. His second half was beyond poor.

Why mention Pav? It has nothing to do with the argument. I could mention Josh Hill who kicked more goals then McCarthy, is that a fair swap? Is Josh Hill a better player?

He's a 20 year old KPF who wants to come home with unlimited potential. 2 first rounders gives you 2 cracks to find 2 similar players and before you say well McCarthy is proven. Well he ain't proven jack as far as I'm concerned. Jack Anthony kicked 50 in a season as did Ben McKinley or whatever his name was from the Eagles.

He could be the next Josh Kennedy, he could be the next Scott Gumbleton.

2 first rounders is a good start for a player wanting out.
Why do we want two late first rounders to have two cracks at signing a good young KPF? We have one on contract for 2 more years who we are very happy with.

Don't think there has been any mention that he is unhappy with the club. Just that he is homesick which happens to various degrees and luckily it can be worked through while still at the giants

If I were GWS and i genuinely believed sunshine was in my best 22, then I'd stick to my guns and block his path to Freo. However I would not hold him to a contract if he was not in the best 22; his trade value is high at present and GWS could probably get a couple of decent draft picks.....

But GWS don't need anymore picks.

Fremantle does need McCarthy and there are no other real options (Howe lol).

That's the difference.

I think it is too simplistic for GWS to take that approach. You never know when a draft pick can change your Club's fortunes.

Look at Freo and Nat Fyfe- we drafted him as a forward and he turned out to be one of the best midfielders in the game.

They are an extremely young team why would they want more young players?

They already have a young quality key forward (the rarest and most expensive players in the game) why would they trade that for two players in a weaker draft?

The fact is if not for McCarthy's request GWS would not be even thinking about trading him. Even now they would prefer to keep him.

I think he is viewed as best 22 which is why they are so adamant he isn't going. Kicking 35 goals this year means he will start as third tall next year.

Best 22 key forward or a couple of late first round speculative picks. It's really a no brainer.

A key part is that he still has 2 years on his contract as well. Not like he is off contract end of next year.

Gives gws more leeway to hold onto him for another year.

Hack dorm believes we will offer two picks and a player and the deal is nearly done.

Interesting to see what the details of that will be...

Freo might be a bit desperate since they've been trying to lure a talented KPF for so long and they FINALLY have one actually wanting to get to them...
Also since Freo are right in their premiership window they should go all out to get McCarthy.

Maybe this years 2nd, next years 2nd and someone like Crozier?

Two picks above 35 and crozier... Yeah that sounds about right. If that's going all out what would you call it when they offer their next two first round picks?

2 x 1st rounders and a player good enough that GWS would actually use? Thats overs.

Ill pay that it will more likely be 1 x 1st rounder, 1 x 2nd rounder and someone like Crozier who plays in a position GWS don't have that much depth in.

My take on this is a lot will depend on Mccarthys attitude from now on.Which angle is he taking behind closed doors? Is it

A/Plays hardball.Say to us' Im homesick im not playing for GWS.Im staying in WA if your not going to trade me'

B/Say 'I will see out my contract then I'm definitely leaving'

C/Say 'I'm homesick can u trade me'

D/Say' Im homesick but such and such is happening with my family or girlfriend'etc.

My Gut feel and with my Giants cap on is its C at the moment.Thats why we are confident we can still keep him.If this is the case we can really demand overs if hes traded especially since hes contracted for 2 more years. It would be unlikely he would take option A.If he did it would limit our leverage and ability to maximuse his trade value.Same with B but it would give us more leverage.D would be difficult and would give us less leverage than C.

I hate it but we have to acknowledge player power these days.If a player wants to get out and his manager can get a pay raise they usually hold the cards.Hopefully he stays but if not we demand a lot and hope that Stewart,Patton, Tomlinson,Lobbe, Finlayson and Himmelberg:) step up.
