Lachie is only 22 he still has all the attributes of someone like Mitchell
And in a year or 2 who replaces Mundy and then in the near future after that Barlow. Even once sandi is done the mids will be even more important as we won't always have first hands.

And a great forward is only as good as the guys delivering it
No he doesn't, why do so many of our supporters persist in this delusional thinking? About all they have in common is being short midfielders. Lachie is a great ball winner, he probably shades Mitchell when it comes to contested ball and clearance ability (an amazing thing in of itself given that he is 22 and a low draft pick) and his goal sense. Mitchell, on the other hand, is one of the most consistently accurate and creative short kicks in the history of the game on top of being at least good in every facet required of a quality midfielder, whereas Lachie is at best an average kick of the footy (and I mean average as in average, not as a euphemism for bad).
Neale is a top quality AFL inside midfielder (with bonus goal kicking knack) and we made out like bandits getting him at pick #58 and we should be happy, but he is never going to be as good as Mitchell.

Is Bennell going to be our kicking coach as well?

Mayne does everything well apart from his set shots on goal. He knows where to lead, he can take a mark, he runs all game, he applies pressure and can lay a great tackle.

But his set shot on goal is atrocious and let's him down even when there is no pressure. Bennell could deliver the ball lace out 30m in front of goal but it's on Mayne to finish.

Freo were in front when he went for each of these shots, each one about 30m out from goal so not exactly what you would call a pressure shot. IMO he needs to go back to Peel to regain his confidence in front of the big sticks. A decent forward coach that could help him wouldn't go astray either.
that was depressing to watch

Where I am coming from is our team mix in 2017.

D Pearce would be 31 going into the 2017 season, so it's conceivable that a younger player would start getting played in his winger role. Weller is the most obvious replacement, assuming he develops in line with expectations.

I'm not one of the Pearce bashers who don't see his value to the team and demand he be dropped :p He has his place in the 22 currently - in 2 years that may differ
Cool, that makes sense!

Long haired Champs.
He has this robotic regimented routine and it's failed him for the last two seasons.
One thing I've never agreed with RTB on is his "What's confidence? It's only a feeling.Maybe a good feeling but you don't need it." yarn,or however it goes.
Mayne has been told and wants to believe that sticking to the visualisation/every molecule in the same constituent geometric relationship gets the ball to go straight through the big sticks.
When he was kicking at whatever % accuracy he was in 2013 he was much more relaxed, confident and fluid/looser on the ball strike and follow through.Shit that actually does come from between the lugholes.
Bennell and SonSon exude confidence in their kicking styles and I've no doubt this affects their accuracy.
I know they have contrasting physiques,I've always wondered if Ross maintains this line behind closed doors.

Thats your opinion,

i wonder what Mitchell was like at 22 yrs old. i think the ceiling for Neale is very high.

It's cos he's short mate.

All short players look the same, play the same and are critiqued the same.

Tony Liberatore was exactly the same as Dale Weightman who is exactly the same as Sam Mitchell who passed his full DNA onto Lachie Neale.

Same with Aboriginal footy players.

They're all a bit soft in the centre and flaky outside types. Hai Byron Pickett.

Oh, and of course because Harvey B is a blackfella, he'll automatically be mentored by a blackfella or end up like Dayle Garlett.

I could go on.

Lovely pic of him

I'm really pissed off with GWS he will most likely walk in two years anyway and Freo have given them reasonable compensation.

I understand they need good player retention but if they didn't provide adequate care for his homesickness when it started then why start now when it's too late.

If he desperately didn't want to leave they would have ignored his needs.

Same, nah. Much worse. They could be 5 foot 2 versus 6 foot 4, one full blood from the desert the other 15/16th's European. All judged on same criteria. Much easier to do than having to think about context, nuance, etc. or similarly time consuming things.

I've learned quite a lot from GWS this week:

To all opposition fans,
Lachie Neale is contracted and not for trade....

You must pay overs if you really want him. Starting offer must include:
- your 1st round pick
- your next year's first round pick
- you best and fairest winner this year
- your team's nab rising star nominee
- one of your assistant coach to be RTB personal butler for 1 year
- the pants you are currently wearing. Go run around MCG while you are at it
- your first born
....

Am I doing this right?
