well it is easy to take flyers when you get father-sons falling into your lap left, right and centre. Most teams would be top 4 with those gifts, lets be real.
Ashcroft brothers and Fletcher? Most teams would be top 4 with just those 3 added?
Ashcroft was huge last year during the finals series and I really rate Fletcher but none of these guys have even hit their prime yet or are in our top 5 best/most important players so far.

pulp fiction they speak english in what GIF

I see you're trying to one up me with the film memes.

I think you're confused, so I'll help you.

Rayner at the Lions, has to play forward because our midfield is so good. Rayner at the Roos, is better than most of your midfielders and would be more impactful in the midfield than forward.

I think you're a little out of your depth here kanga kanga kanga.
Rayner looks really good in midfield but obviously isn't used there that much as Friday was just the 10th time he's had 5 or more clearances.

I knew he'd tear it up against Geelong as he clearly enjoys playing against us. We never match up well on strong attacking forward/mids.

watching the game it was clearly his best game mate, just can’t admit that ldu had a better game then rayner has ever had.
LDU had a better game.... ermmm sorry I don't watch LDU so it's hard for me to comment either way but the fact that you keep posting LDU on a 217 pages certified legendary Cam Rayner thread makes me think you're looking for validation. OK- LDU had a great game!!! Hope you’re happy mate 👍🏽

And just so you're aware its - 2024 premiership player, 2024 AA squad member, 2024 prelim final MVP, 5th No.1 pick ever to become a premiership player, one of the best players in entire AFL league post-bye 2024 (top 20 over 8 games and top 3 over 3 games), the indomitable, unconquerable, Cam Freaaaking Rayner you're talking about here.

Hope LDU reaches these heights one day mate. Good luck until then 😉

cam rayner played his best game of his career.

ldu played a average game compared to his best.

ldu rated the 10th best player of the round

cam rayner not even in the top 40

🤣🤣

This is the BigFooty version of “shinboner spirit”.

The North Melbourne willingness to keep scrapping despite being utterly irrelevant, outmatched and outclassed.

I call it “shinboner shit posting”.

In all seriousness, when I see LDU I am reminded of the default player template in the character creator for a PS2 era AFL video game. Stats all set to 70 and nothing visually distinct or interesting or memorable about him. At least Fritta got down and dirty with the hair settings.

LDU is a very good player that you love to have on your team but won’t be widely remembered by general AFL fans five years after he retires. Jack Ziebellesque.

The developers are working on a bug in LDU’s code which prevents him from running defensively.

Looks like Cam is slipping into overdrive from mid-season again like last year. Last 5 games are up there for a general forward. Not going too shabbily for someone you rated worth pick 30.

How is your 4 pick Barely Avfritsch going? Let me check shall I....

Ranks the 69th best general forward this year. And is the 429th highest rated player overall in 2025. You would be spewing blood to get that output from your pick 4 Danster. I don't believe we have seen the likes of that from a pick 4 since Toumpas.

You have had an absolute shocker Dan. You didn't even rate Ed Richards in the top 30. Hopefully you have learned from the experience. 😁

Bizarre how?
Stringer is an inconsistent brilliant footballer. Cam Rayner like-wise. Both have almost identical career averages but one of them was taken number one in the draft.
Stringer is the better footballer. His 2016 and 2017 were better than anything Rayner has produced so far. Both have under performed relative to their talent.

I will say Rayner is 10 times better as a human being Stringer.

If the 2017 draft was done again:
In my opinion. And I think Rayner has no business being in the top 21 conversation. 22-30 he can be in that mix but the top 21 have all done much more and have all carved out extremely important roles and have shown to be good AFL players.

1. Naughton
2. Brayshaw
3. Tim Kelly
4. Fritsch
5. Zac Bailey
6. Oscar Allen
7. Cerra
8. Davies-Uniacke
9. Liam Ryan
10. Balta
11. Wil Powell
12. Starcevich
13. Sam Taylor
14. Dylan Moore
15. Liam Baker
16. Tom McCartin
17. Mihocek
18. Spargo
19. Worpel
20. Brent Daniels
21. Petty
-------------------------------------
22. Miers
23. Switkowski
24. Ben Paton
25. Xerrie
26. Ainsworth
27. Paton
28. Jack Higgins
29. Roarke Smith
30. Rayner
31. Nick Holman

Here is Danster's re-done 2017 draft which he did in 2022.

His top 10 is a total mess. If you sold them right now for draft picks you would only get a draft pick equal or higher than where Dan ranked them for about 2 players. It doesn't get a whole lot better with his next 20 picks either.

Fritsch at 4, LOL.

Glad you mentioned this, was one of only 20 players in the AFL to average at least 15 and 1 last year and is on track to do it again. Elite
When comparing players using stats we also must take into account that a Cam Rayner possession is often not just a run of the mill possession. Several involve busting packs and creating otherwise non-existent opportunities

All jokes aside for a second, that's turned into a pretty solid bloody draft.

It is a good draft, more for the depth of decent players rather than a dazzling top end. But there are a few pretty high class players at the top end just the same, Brayshaw, Richards, Taylor to name three.

Where the 2017 draft really comes into its own is the amount and quality of selections outside the top 20...

Oscar Allen
Fogarty bot D & L
Tim Kelly
Balta
L Ryan
B Daniels
S Taylor
Spargo
T Dekoning
Fritsch
McCartin
Petty
Ballard
Worpel
Farrell
Jack Payne
Miers
B Miller
Zerk-Thatcher
Dylan Moore
Meek
Xerri
Switkowski
Guelfi
Banfield
L Baker
Mihocek
Amartey

are all best 22 players as of now and a few others like L Murphy, N Murphy and Paton have been at times. Pretty sure just this group(so not including the top 20 selections) would stack up well against all the drafts around it, 2015. 2016 2018 with all picks in those drafts included.

LDU does have a sick spin move though. Granted, he often spins into a tackle that he then has to break, but it looks cool.

My favourite version of Shinboner shit posting I've ever seen in the wild was at gather round in 2023 where a norf fan on the hill near me yelled out "LDU is better than you Cam!" as Joe kicked his 6th and the margin extended to 80 points, lmao.

I'm not sure if you should rate mature age draft picks such as Kelly and Mihocek against guys that are 5+ years younger. Really they should be rated amongst the picks that were taken in what should have been their draft year. It just seems a bit disingenuous.

he had 3 and 20, don’t remember him playing a better game statistically. correct me if i’m wrong.

Here's a few off the top of my head:
  • 4 goals v the Saints in 2022
  • 4 goals, 20ish touches v the Pies in 2023
  • 25 touches, 9 clearances v Dees 2024
  • 2 goals, 20 touches, 6 clearances v Syd 2024
In any event stats are for losers. Watch the game.

danster168 did you watch the agenda setters tonight? They set the agenda for the AFL each week.

Tonight they had ‘Rayner running riot’! Recommended viewing.

I liked Dan however it won't register with him. He called Morris a reserves player last year. Does a lot of research and is knowledgeable but don't let him make a call on player's futures. Wears rear view mirrors.

he was the sub or subbed 6 times last year so yes, he was indeed a reserves player.

No, if he was a reserves player he would have been playing reserves all year. As a first year key forward he was clearly being managed so that he could go the distance of a long season. We were out of key forwards due to injury or other options not being close to as good, so making sure he got through the season was very important for us.
A reserves player is someone like Dev Robertson who is in and out of the team a lot of the time as a sub. Someone who is omitted for one game then immediately bought back in is not a reserves player. Be realistic.
