No, if he was a reserves player he would have been playing reserves all year. As a first year key forward he was clearly being managed so that he could go the distance of a long season. We were out of key forwards due to injury or other options not being close to as good, so making sure he got through the season was very important for us.
A reserves player is someone like Dev Robertson who is in and out of the team a lot of the time as a sub. Someone who is omitted for one game then immediately bought back in is not a reserves player. Be realistic.
he was being managed in the the grand final? lol. and another final?

interesting strategy to rest a best 22 player in 2 finals 🤔

Danny, I've found some unsettling statistics.

Can you guess the pair? Say it ain't so!

You mean in the grand final that was over by half time? Fages wanted to keep the oldest players on the ground for the final siren, Morris was the youngest, the second youngest was on track to win the NS. Morris was subbed out with less than 10 mins to go.
He had a shocker in the semi final and was clearly the right choice to make.

Not sure in what world playing all bar one game, unless injured since your first game makes a player a reserves player.

If Collingwood were to play North Melbourne in a grand final LDU is not the player I’d be worried about playing well and deciding the game.

In 2023 I was very concerned about Rayner.

If he can just add a little more resilience and focus to his game he could almost guarantee Brisbane at least one probably two more flags with this list.

Regards

S. Pete

so subbed out in 6 games. yet will and levi ashcroft weren't? what's the difference?

youre making stuff up as u go along.

6 sub games is basically Harry Sharp

Trust me - you don’t want to know Danny’s thoughts on Washcroft!

show me the contract.

your own coaches rated my assessment fencing subbing him 6 times. I couldn't have been more correct of how he was rated internally.

Here is a link reporting Melbourne's interest. I don't access to copies of players' contracts or offers and doubt few on Big Footy would. I was advised that his agent was looking for $1.0 million per year. Melbourne made an offer and he turned down the higher money to stay at the Brisbane Lions. Last year the team were managing a 19yo undersized, underdeveloped key forward in his first year. Hence the progressive build for time on ground. Most of us could see what the coaches were doing.

Dan, can you elaborate on Spargo’s injury? I assume this is why he hasn’t played since round 11 after being subbed off. He was top 20 in your redraft so surely he isn’t a reserves player
it was a rolling list as you know. He has been bumped down. Rayner still isnt top 25 in his draft year. His 14-15 touches a game and 1 goal in a top 4 team isnt moving the needle. he is neither a midfielder, nor a fwd.

he is really good, once every 8 weeks.

When can we expect a re-draft? I’m very confused about where all these players sit now.

didn't I do one pre-season? and considering rayner has been worst than last season, he won't be improved on that

I need a 1 to Rayner ranking and maybe 5 beyond him. We need to understand where we can improve as we push towards 1.

If you look at the colour coded stats in the AFL app he is above average in nearly every category and elite in a couple others. Last 2 weeks have been rated elite according to fantasy points metric.

Categories he is rated elite in are inside 50s and clearances which are 2 of the most important stats.

He’s a forward…

By the way Melbourne doesn’t have a single player who averages 15 and 1

Come on Dan. We are comparing midfielders with a young guy that plays tall forward where they are usually under developed for the role at 19yo.
