After the sun came up today I can have a laugh about the Rayner stuff. Though if we’d lost the game by less than a couple of goals, I’d be close to giving up on following this sport.

Opportunity lost then by not winning by a couple of goals

Tonight I watched one of the all time finals diving performances we have seen. Will go down as his lasting legacy

Welcome to get a sample of what rest of the AFL were seeing when Duckwood kept diving for frees throughout his career. 890 free kicks in AFL - that's like winning the free kicks all time tally by some distance. Never once I saw a Geelong supporter whinge about the frees he's getting - buzz off mate, trying to act all holy about frees lol.

-wipes away tears- but he just gets lower than the opposition!

Agreed. Why bump a bloke in the middle of the back when the footy is down the other end?

Exactly.. but but but the free kick ! omg the free kick ! I'm sure the umpire would've warned him to cut it out few times already.

Not to mention Rayner had a free against earlier in the game for the open handed knock in the abs area to O'Connor. He put his hand up to complain to the umpire who promptly paid the free and the ball was with Geelong to rebound. I didn't hear any teeth gnashing about the crybaby getting a free then.

Yeah, nah. Bursting through a pack and copping one around the head - drawn or otherwise - is a whole different ball game to flopping 150m off the ball for a shot on goal.

It's a shame because Rayner has shown that Selwood-esque bull tendency at stoppages here and there. It seems that being a forward brings the worst out of him.

oh sure, he burst through the packs so hard which none of the other players do and got rewarded 890 times for being hard at it. The revisionist takes once we bring up free kicks and Joel Selwood is just hilarious.

Bit of an old article below, that chart is anything but normal.

He's almost remain on his feet and be ready to continue the play. See his goal in the 2009 grand final. It's a whole different ball game to fairyfloss flops in front of goal, which are actually pure performance and belong in a theatrical production. I can tell you're pretty embarrassed about it anyway. There's no point dying on a hill for something you don't really believe in.

Mate, you don't get to decide who feels what around here. You can keep spinning how Duckwood's frees are all legit - I really don't care to be honest.

I'm completely at peace with what Rayner received as a free. O'Connor received a similar free earlier when he put up his hand and cried to umpire as I've mentioned. It was pretty much the trigger for Rayner to do what he did later. Don't start something and then come back crying when someone else outdoes what you did.

It sounds like we're both happy then, so no need to cry or talk about crying. Rayner's theatrics are more comical than rage-inducing and deep down I think you know are nothing like Selwood copping knocks around his ears as he bulldozes through packs. The umpire falling for it is the bigger issue, but Geelong simply went and won the game a second time. Don't pretend any crowd in Australia or world sport wouldn't have gotten animated in such a situation.

I think the real focus should be that Rayner was well shutdown in general play in another big game. A goal and a handful of unimportant touches covered the rest of his output. The clown show was desperation, that's all.

Are you actually defending Rayner? You know you can call out embarrassing staging even if the player wears your favourite colours?

Very ill disciplined in the goal square by the cats, was sad to see

I find it really interesting where people place their rage.

Firstly - Rayner went down too easily. For a guy of his strength and weight it should take a lot more than those bumps to knock him to the ground. So deserves some criticism for flopping. Deserves some hefty criciticsm but let's face it - he wasn't bumping HIMSELF in the back.

Secondly - the players that bumped Rayner in the back during dead play are getting almost NO criticism. Zac Guthrie did one of the most moronic things you can do - bumped a player in the back (who went to ground too easily) right in front of the umpire. Deserves a lot of rage. Getting none. Getting some mild criticism at worst.

Thirdly - the umpire that paid the free kick when Geelong was lining up for goal Worthy of rage. And is receiving 99% of the rage here.

Fourthly - the umpire paying the second free kick is (same umpire I know) is getting rage for TWO OF THE WORST FREE KICKS EVER when really it was just the first one that was a history-making-howler. The second one was Guthrie doing one of the dumbest things possible.

Earlier in the season when CJ for the hawks pushed Rioli over the line after he had kicked a goal for Port and got a second shot at goal - the hawks fans raged but the rest of the AFL was piling onto CJ for being undisciplined. This time - the whole footy world, led by Gerard Whatley, are piling onto the UMPIRE instead of the player.

Very interesting to see the difference in responses.

it would all make sense if you are, its a safe zone you can tell us
You guys sharing D grade material is sweet and all, but this is a thread to discuss Cam Rayner's latest heroics as Brisbane go back to back. Talking about your favourite Geelong supporters or young gun Shaun Mannagh - I see those as unnecessary deflections. Let's keep things on topic.

Which cats poster do you think is the cat man? Art vandalay is my bet.

The free kicks are whatever. O'Connor and Zuthrie got sucked in and the ump paid soft frees. My only issue was the baiting Rayner did afterwards. If your kid did that on the field you'd tell him to knock it off. Probably my least favourite thing in footy (outside of proper thug acts) when players carry on like that.
