Rohan had 14 disposals and 3 goals in last years QF.
He was sensational and the mark and goal he took at the 24th minute mark of the final quarter was epic.

Better performance than Rayner's on the weekend.

Thanks, that's the one I was thinking of. It could be recency bias but I don't recall it being as dominant a performance as Rayner's.
Stats can be deceiving but 433m gained compared to Rohan's 200m, and Rohan's 4 marks inside 50 to Rayner's 1 seem to be the main differences.

Both played great games, but Rayner was very clearly BoG until McCluggage started dominating. He finished third in the coaches votes, but can't really fault that given Daniher kicked 5. For Rayner to be involved in 12 scores was the difference when it mattered IMO.

Rohan played one of the best games of his career that QF, but did so as a 31 year old. Rayner has barely scratched the surface of how good he will be as a player if he continues on his trajectory.

Does he have to be the best in his draft? Can be close to it as a mid power forward, help his team win games and possibly a flag. Wouldn't that be what he was recruited for?

2 of the finals were in 2020 with shorter quarters, the first 2 in 2019 he was in his second year. Its all pretty irrelevant really, its up to what he does from now.

i dont think anyone except nuffies such as a certain demons poster itt have really questioned rayner's ceiling. its his consistency week to week that needs to improve for him to become an A grader. if he ever works up to becoming a 25~ touch a game player between the mid / forward lines he would be a very frightening prospect for opposition teams with how damaging his disposal is in the forward half

Where were Brisbane fans from Rounds 4 til round 24? He's had a shocking season. Yet another season of wasted potential. Brisbane fans had a chance to stick up for their boy from rounds 4-24 but were nowhere to be seen. He finally plays a decent game but it's a bit late to be trying to jump on him now. The damage has been done.

trajectory? He has been as poor this season as he was last season...

Round 18 against my mob he had 8 possessions, 0 goals...but sure, let's not focus on that.

Or 9 possessions, 0 goals against the blues.

Or the majority of games where he is extremely poor. let's not focus on that

People say that what he does doesn't show up on the stat sheet, no kidding. Does he apply defensive pressure? No. Does he kick goals? no. Does he find the footy? No.

Well, if he plays anything like he did this week you'll at least get to see it up close in a big game. You have to admit should he dominate in the prelim you will have to eat your words in a big way.

This question was put to me many weeks ago if you followed the thread. I said Rayner would need to kick 4-5 goals in each final to make up for the poor season that he's had. I'm not disregarding his performance. he played well. But 1 game doesn't make up for 20 bad ones. In many teams he wouldn't have even been best 22 that's how bad he was going at stages this year. Brisbane fans are too biased to acknowledge his poor season and poor games so why would their opinions when he plays his first good game since round 4 mean anything?

If your team wins the flag and you have had a great finals series, nobody on earth or any neighbouring planet is describing that as a poor season. Maybe way out on planet dan, that is about it.

Nah I'm acknowledging that he played well. How could I not. But playing well in a finals game doesn't supersede a pretty horrific season. The measure is a very high measure but that's a measure that I believe is a true measure to cater for the poor career he's had to date. The guy is almost 24 years old. He's at the peak of his career and here we are celebrating 1 good game since round 4. This year he had 0 injury excuses. Zero. Last season was the last season where people could run with the injury excuse.

He needs to play like this every 2nd week if he's going to turn his career around. If Brisbane fans can't acknowledge the games where he has 0 influence on the game and can't find the ball then why would their opinion carry weight now. I challenge anyone to crunch through Rayner's season round by round and divide it into 'Very Poor, Poor, Average, Good, Very Good' and then talk to me. Otherwise, it's all just recency bias and Ollie Lord is better than Warren Tredrea.

Close match, tiring legs and Rohan was the difference in the end.
More tackles and goal assists. Cats don't win the flag if not for him.

He was excellent in that Covid prelim too.

Port Adelaide who were very unconvincing.

For sizeable periods of the game they matched Brisbane. Their mids were v impressive. Butters was awesome to watch. Rozee outstanding. The Lions had to keep a very close eye on JHF at stages. Port had plenty of chances to build a buffer early on - kicked themselves out of it really. Brisbane on the other hand made few mistakes going forward. Not much of an xScore differential:

You're not though are you. You're saying he had a good game then adding a disclaimer to downplay not only his game but his form throughout this season which is better than the stats suggest.

You are exaggerating substantially downplaying his positive impact on a team that finished second. Do you think a team as good as ours has been this year can carry someone for that many games? Far more logical that you are missing why he is an important player in a good team which is evident when you say he needs to kick 12-15 goals in three finals to make up for it. Horrendous logic but expect nothing less from you based on your form in this thread.

He is still a long long long way from being a star... He is currently projecting more of a Rohan than he is a 5x AA type player.

He clearly has the ability to take over games, he is definitely an AFL calibre player but yikes he has a long way to go to get to AA level yet alone maintain it.

Rohan has never played a game like that in his career
